《Low Tide \ JJ Maybank》Ch 15

As we drive back into town the sun goes down, getting very dark out. JB plays rock music through the radio. He pulls up to the Wreck, Kiara's family's restaurant.
"Stealing drones make you hungry." Kie says climbing out of the car.
"What I would do to a beer and shrimp and grits right now." JJ gets out of the back, I follow him out.
"What would you do to me, hm?" I ask quietly so only he could hear.
He stops and grabs my arm. Everyone else keeps walking, making their way inside.
"Katarina, what do you think you're doing?" He asks. JJ gets a couple inches from my face to keep our conversation quiet.
"It was just a question." I say innocently.
He pushes me up against the van. "You are not funny." He mumbles smiling.
"I don't know, this is kinda what I was going for. I think I'm hilarious."
"God, you're annoying." A small laugh escapes his lips as he leans in to kiss me.
"I love you too." I respond. I walk past him and into the restaurant with him right behind.
We walk through the restaurant to our friends. We walk by Kie and her dad, who were in a deep conversation. Though, her dad looks up to wave at me.
"Hi, Mr. C." I wave back.
"Hey, kid."
"Where were you guys?" John B asks.
"Oh, I was just asking where him and Pope went at the salvage yard. The dog chased them away." I lie.
"Oh. Also how the hell did you get Kie's dad to like you?"
"Volunteering here while you and Dad were treasure hunting."
"Oh, that's all I had to do?"
"Maybe not wear shirts that expose your chest." I smack his exposed chest.

"Funny." JB responds sarcastically.
"Sit down!" Kie says looking at us.
"Hell yes." I mumble sitting at the table.
Shortly after Kie's dad is bringing food out to us. We all dig in, starving from our long day. I chow down on a plate of fish and chips. The restaurant had music playing in the background, lightening the mood. We all laugh and mess around as we have light conversations. This is the most at peace we've all felt in days.
Kie points at my brother, while moving to the music. She waves him over. I look over at JJ with a smile a on my face.
"Oh, Kat, no."
"Please?" I ask softly.
He sighs standing up. He takes my hand pulling me up with him. I move my hands up to his shoulders as his settle on my lower back. We sway to the music, moving to the beat. I pull him closer to me, laying my head on his shoulder.

The next day we we test the drone out on the water. Kie and John B swim under the water making sure we could see them on the camera. John B swims up pretending to brush his teeth with his index finger.
"Why am I related to that?" I question.
JJ reaches out to touch the screen. "What's that?"
"Don't touch that." Pope demands. "I'm trying to work out this thing."
Pope uses the controls to move the drone around the water. Kie swims in front of it before swimming back out of the shot.
"God bless geeks, Pope. Truly, man." JJ was hunched over, staring at the screen. "What would we do without you to control the drones?" JJ stands up, leaning against the railing.

"It's not a drone. It's an ROV." Pope corrects as Kie and John B resurface.
"Pope, who cares?" I say laughing.
"Whatever." He says with a smile.
"Shut up, shut up. It's too early for that." JJ tells us.
"Hey, once we get footage of the wreck, we'll bring it to a lawyer in town and file a formal claim." John B calls out from the water.
"It's bullshit. Why do we have to do that?" JJ asks.
"Well, there is maritime salvage law. You can't just go to the ocean floor and scoop a bunch of stuff up." Pope points out.
"I know, I know. It's just lawyers aren't cheap, bro."
"We'll figure it out, J." I lightly touch his arm.
"Well, as soon they are the footage, they'll work for a company." John B says.
"How do you know all of that?" Kie questions.
"Because my dad said it, like, a million times."
"Yeah, that's fair." Kie shrugs.
"This tether is really long." Pope says "In the wrong weather, it could get pushed around."
"Then we'll go at dead calm."
Thunder rumbles in the background. Thick clouds cover the entire sky.
"At slack tide?" Kie asks.
"So now, we just gotta wait around for the right weather." Pope looks up at the sky. "And today is not that day." Thunder rolls in the sky, echoing.

8 145The Last Journey
A slice of life litrpg story... or is it? It's burning slow, though. Moving on: War comes with a great cost. Lives and time wasted for most part. One could either be run with sword, be poisoned, be bowed, and sometimes meet their end with just a tiny speck of wood. With magic, it becomes even more colorful. From lightning, to worse poison, to hovering rocks, to weird bladed leaves, to whipping roots, and to a lot more odd things easily reasoned with magic. A wonderful creation. But once used to something more than wonder, more than tricks to gather laughs, it becomes worse. War becomes worse. For there is not only blood to be spilled. A particular town almost met the same end. Soldiers geared with swrords and bows came with mounts. Horses burning lush grasses as it cracked boulders and the soil alike with every step. The kind that only war ones could ever do. Even strange wheeled creations that oozed danger were towed, loaded with something meant to destroy. But not once had they acted upon what such devices should've done, nor what an an army is supposed to do. Siege never occurred, as much as a command to war. No. Magic existed so a simple little fire is all the worth the town has. No sword drawn, no arrows nocked, nothing. Just some mana spent and through the ash they march. That was how Nudius saw her end. It came not even as a surprise. She didn't have the moment to fully register what occurred before she found herself in an empty dark space. Life lost, time spent. All from a fire that had not even touched her. But she knew very well that it was magic. Something she wished to have and strived for to have. Yet it seemed that none of it would matter now. Nudius was well aware of what the color around meant, of the odd situation, of the unfeeling state of her being. It was death and that was it. She didn't have to worry or dream further. Although there wasn't what she truly wanted in what death to her is, but at least, Nudius was comforted to what she believed death is. Rest. But little did she know there's something more than that empty space. It wasn't only the promise of rest, but was also more than she could ever hope for. Another chance at life. Another chance to dream. ***Tags are there just in case. You never know! Umm... HI-MI-TSU. Story blurb+: This is slow burn, quite slice of life story about a girl learning magic. All the while as she fatten herself up. So yeah, progression fantasy. But there's Litrpg! Numbers! Magic! Spells! And of course! There's something more. But read on ahead, please. Oh yes. Plot! There is, too. Disclaimer: The cover isn't made by me. Just layered it with a text. I got it from a free website, if I correctly recall. I'll see to it. (Haven't worked on it.)
