"NO!" I screech and run to the edge just in time to see her hit the ground.
Allie is gone. Her wings are spread out and she's all but crushed. I see her bonds all snap and wither.
"Allie!" Alex yells. Everyone else looks shocked to silence. Except Thorin he wastes no time grabbing Bilbo next.
He doesn't even feel the loss of his soulmate. How could he do that?
She can't be gone! She just can't!
"You killed her," I whisper and the tears start flowing out. "How could you do that?!"
"You helped her so you must go next!" Thorin hisses completely disregarding the life he just took.
"You KILLED HER!" Alex shouts and her skin flares red. Kili grabs her arm and she immediately stops burning. Even under these circumstances she would never harm him.
I clutch the wall so hard my knuckles go white. I cannot take my eyes off her.
"If you don't like my burglar, then please don't damage him. Return him to me," Gandalf calls suddenly appearing in the elven army. "You're not making a very splendid figure as King under the Mountain, are you, Thorin, son of Thrain?"
Thorin stares at Gandalf before releasing Bilbo.
"Never again will I have dealings with wizards!" Thorin swears.
"Go, Bilbo go," Emily urges and helps Bilbo to the rope. I don't understand how they aren't killing Thorin right now. Are they just in shock?
"Or Shire rats!" Bilbo quickly repels down the rope and dashes to Gandalf. He passes Allie's
body without so much as a blink.
So they are in shock. Or maybe they thinks she's okay.
"Are we resolved? The return of the Arkenstone for what was promised," Bard asks, he at least look disgusted at what just happened. Thorin looks over to the horizon and grins. "Give us your answer. Will you have peace or war?"

Out of nowhere a black crow lands on the walk before Thorin.
"I will have war," Thorin declares and my last shred of hope shatters. So this is how our end begins.
A loud rumbling drags my attention from the fallen angel to an approaching dwarven army.

Natalie
~~~
That cannot have just happened. What has he done?!
"Ironfoot," I hear Gandalf huff. How am I supposed to concentrate on the new army wen my friend lies dead before the gate?!?
"Dain! Dain! Dain!" the dwarves cheer and waves their weapons high. I want to puke and scream at the same time at their actions.
How can they cheer when he just killed her? Is the dragon sickness really that effective?
I watch as Thranduil gestures to command the army to poise to fight the new threat.
"Who is that? He doesn't look very happy," Bilbo asks.
"It is Dain, Lord of the Iron Hills. Thorin's cousin," Gandalf replies with an undertone of annoyance.
"Are they alike?" Bilbo inquires.
"I hope not I don't want anymore of my friends to be brutally murdered!" I growl and stomp. "I half want you to go and flame his butt Smaug."
"I've always found Thorin the more reasonable of the two," Gandalf sighs.
"This has to be a bad dream," I whisper and gold my head. "This is a bad dream."
"It's not Natalie. I'm so sorry about your friend but I believe we need to address this new army first," Smaug murmurs and rubs my back. I let out a loud sigh and shake my head to clear it.
I look up and make my way through the army towards Dain who approaches on a boar.
"Good morning! How are we all? I have a wee proposition, if you wouldn't mind giving me a few moments of your time. Would you consider..." Dain stops talking reasonably and suddenly raises his voice. "Just sodding off?!"
I have decided I hate dwarves.
The Lakemen start backing away in fear.
"All of you! Right now!" Drain orders.
"Stand fast!" Bard orders his men o make them stop pulling back.
"Come now, Lord Dain," Gandalf says and walks closer.
"Gandalf the Grey. Tell this rabble to leave, or I'll water the ground with their blood," Dain threatens and waves his axe like a maniac.
"We can solve this politically!" I exclaim loudly.
"I agree with Advisor Natalie, there is no need for war between Dwarves, Men and Elves. A legion of Orcs march on the Mountain. Stand your army down," Gandalf explains. Too bad Gandalfs pretty words won't work on this dwarf.
"I will not stand down before any Elf. Not least this faithless woodland sprite. He wishes nothing but ill upon my people. If he chooses to stand between me and my kin, I'll split his pretty head open! See if he's still smirking then," Dain yells with a wide smirk.
"Dain!" all the dwarves cheers together.
I can't believe this! I let out a growl and stomp as I see red.
"I SEE THEN YOU DWARVES JUST LOVE KILLING DON'T YOU? YOU WANT TO KILL EVERYONE THAT CROSSES YOU! EVEN YOUR OWN VALOR FORSAKEN SOULMATES! YOUR STUPID COUSIN KILLED HIS SOULMATE AND YOU WANT TO DEFEND HIM! I HATE YOUR KIND!" I screech wildly and try to charge Dain. Smaug grabs my off the ground and holds me back. I struggle against him desperate to make someone pay.
"He's clearly mad, like his cousin," Thranduil remarks not at all bothered by my rant.
Dain seems to blanch at my cries, but quickly snaps back to his offensive expression.
"Smaug let me go! I want to kill
him!" I growl out.
"You hear that, lads? We're on! Let's give these bastards a good hammering! No one talks bad about dwarves without me taking them up," Dain announces shooting me a murderous glare.
The army begins to charge when the ground shakes.
I relax for a moment to watch as huge worms sprout from the ground some distance away.
"This can't seriously be getting worse," I groan.
"Earth-Eaters!" Gandalf exclaims in shock. Oh for Yavannas sake.
"Oh, come on!" Dain shouts as Azog and his orc army march through the circular paths made by the Earth-Eaters. Azog lets out loud commands in black speech and his armies comes forth.
"The Hordes of Hell are upon us! To battle! To battle, sons of Durin!" Dain calls and the dwarves run around the elven army to face off with the orcs.
"Smaug I almost hope I do not survive to see the end of this. When this is all over life will be in shambles for everyone involved."
Hazelsong: A LitRPG Novel
Release Schedule: I will be moving to a set release schedule as of 1/1/2022. A new chapter will be released every Saturday at Noon EST. If I have time that week for a second chapter, I will leave a note on the Saturday chapter and post the second chapter on Sunday at Noon EST. An up to date character sheet for the MC Erik will also be posted on Sundays at 12:15 PM. If life happens and I am for some reason unable to write that week, I will post a blank chapter giving you an update on where I am with my writing. Saturday Noon EST: First weekly chapter Sunday Noon EST: Second weekly chapter (if I have the time) Sunday 12:15 EST: Updated character sheet Synopsis: Years after surviving a deadly accident, Erik struggles to come to terms with his painful disability. When offered the chance to playtest the world's first full immersion VRMMO, he wants nothing more than to retreat back into his secluded life, until he learns what Hazelsong really offers. An escape from the pain. Hazelsong is a world of magic and adventure, a place where friendships are formed, loot is won, and glory and fame are there for the taking. While the threats feel real and the stakes are always high, there is only one thing Erik is really in danger of. Forgetting which world is actually real. Story Themes: Hazelsong is a LitRPG novel that not only explores the fictional world of a realistic online fantasy realm but the life of a man suffering in silence from chronic pain and PTSD due to a significant physical injury and disability. Mental health is an important subject and we all know at least one person in our lives who has or is dealing with some form of mental illness. I plan on putting my best effort forward to represent these illnesses in a fair and accurate manner. Not as a cheap plot device to help make the protagonist more unique, but to help paint an accurate picture for those of us who have been lucky enough to not have to suffer in silence. About the Author: I am Ash Durra, general video game nerd and a connoisseur of fantasy and sci-fi of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, I am not a professional author (B.S. and M.S. in Education, 8 years teaching). After really getting into LitRPG novels over the past several years, I found my way to Royal Road, which has inspired me to use my spare time to begin writing a story of my own creation. As this is a hobby, I am not writing and posting chapters on any kind of specific schedule at the moment, though my goal is to post on average 1-2 chapters a week. I am incredibly excited to share this story with others as I write it, and I look forward to any constructive feedback about how I can improve in my writing.
