《How To: Survive Teenagehood》32/ Do Not Be That Puppy Dog

I will hold my hand up and say that I've been that person whose followed someone around and hung onto their every word because I thought they were so much cooler than me, and basically became their lapdog. I think we all have at some point. It's strained friendships, and made me look a bit like an idiot to be honest.

I wish someone had told me this a few years ago when I would stand in the shadow of my friends and think that they were so much better than I could ever be. Be your own person, don't pine after being like someone else. Don't follow someone else around because you think they're like a god. Firstly, it will make anyone think you're stupid and pathetic. Secondly, you don't need to attached to someone at the hip at all times. And thirdly, they are just a person. Like you.

I used to idolise my friends so much, and that's just not a great mindset to have because it makes you feel so inferior. Accept the fact that your friends like you for you, and that they don't want you to feel like you're inferior. If you're like me and have super pretty, talented, and funny friends it can feel like they are always better than you, but remember you probably have qualities that they want too.

Moral of the story, don't pine after people. Definitely don't follow people around because you think they're like gods. Just be yourself.

So rule thirty two of surviving Teenagehood: unless you have flappy ears, an abnormally large tongue, four legs, paws, and adorably large eyes you don't need to be someone's lapdog.
