《The Alteras Games: World Jumper Book 2》A Hero

Two people seemed to walk through the air. Everyone that saw this backed away as the two men stood looking around. If it hadn't been for all the incidents of people gaining magic. People may have freaked out, but they just went on their merry way. Two years of seeing people use magic made the citizens used to the sight. However, this man looked odd. His clothes looked to be completely made of metals. He had a long gold and platinum cape waving in the wind. An eye patch across his right eye, a scar running across his face. His earrings sparkled in the sun. They were gold with a blue gem in them. The one on his right ear looked to be cracked.
"Yo dude, everyone is staring at you." The much younger of the men jabbed an elbow into the other man's side. He was wearing a long brown coat, white shirt, and jeans.
The old man sighed and let out a groan. "Call me Jefferson, you little brat. Why, Carion, were you the only Realm Walker around who could see the ripple?" Jeff complained and grabbed him to fly away from the crowd.
"Don't be like that, boss. I'm one of the most best Realm Walker's around. Not only that, I'm the only one that could see the time ripple." Carion complained.
"Most annoying is more like it. Now keep an eye out for the ones that come back in time." Jeff landed on one of the buildings to look around. 'Guess I can't complain too much. Carion is something else to find a time ripple. I thought me and Ford had found them all.'
"Dude, check this out." Carion waved a newspaper in front of Jeff.
Jeff took the newspaper. "What is so," he stopped as he read the headline. There was to be a special meeting at the White House in Washington D.C. for the new threat in the world.
"I've never heard of this place. I know of Washington, but not of this Washington D.C."
"What are they teaching in history? It's the giant crater in Maryland." Jeff was going to have a talk with the teachers at his school. Then again, it could just be Carion not paying attention.
"Wait, do you mean Jetsford lake?" Carion asked.
Jeff let out a long sigh. "That is not what the crater is called." He looked at the date on the paper. "Hold on. I know who they're after. Ford and I should be," Jeff cringed at the memory. "We should be in the Alteras Tower."
"Wow, hold up. I've never heard this story before. Man, you guys have been holding out on me." Carion froze as something caught his eye. "Check it out. Something is going on over there." He pointed in a direction with smoke.
"Let's check it out." Jeff flew into the air, making sure not to leave Carion behind. A pair of lead glasses formed on his face, and the buildings became see-through. Then brass formed in front of the lead, making it where he could see further away. "Looks like eight people chasing someone with a baby." Then he burned the copper clips on his ears to hear what was happening.

"Make sure Sarah dies."
"Not if I have anything to do with it." Jeff flew even faster and landed between the group and the target. "Do not fear, for a hero is here," Jeff yelled as he got between them.
That had got some strange looks from the people around them. However, the eight people looked more confused. "That can't be the same guy." They muttered between each other.
"Yo, this old man is probably the hero you are thinking of. He is just a bit older with a few more wrinkles. Really, all depends when you low lives traveled to the past." Carion crossed his arms and smirked. "You want some help, old man?"
"No need for a blood bath." Jeff's cape split apart. The platinum formed bullets covering small sapphires. The gold formed circlets lined with emeralds. Before any of the eight people could do anything, Jeff flicked his wrists, and the platinum bullets shot towards them. They tried to dodge with no effect. Once hit by the shots, they exploded. They all fell to the ground then the gold circlets chained their hands and legs together.
"That was anticlimactic. Dude, what the hell? These guys were a joke."
"Carion, they haven't been through a percent of what we have." Jeff hesitated before turning to the woman that was being chased. He smiled, "hello, Amanda."
"Hi," Amanda said slowly.
"Hold up, boss. We got ourselves a Jumper." Carion froze, then turned to Amanda. "No way. Is this the Amanda?" Carion walked over to her and looked her up and down. "Were you hurt in any way? If they hurt you, I'll rip them apart. Oh my goodness, is this Sarah? She was so cute as a baby."
Jeff smacked Carion across the head. "Stop scaring the poor girl. We need to get out of here. We don't belong." He turned to see a woman locked with his gold cuffs. She was flickering in and out of existence. "So we do have a World Jumper." An iron spike formed then. Out of nowhere, mercury formed and coated the spike. "What a hassle." He said and jammed the spike into her shoulder. "Ok, gather them up. I'll have control of her for a few hours."
"Wait," Amanda grabbed Jeff's shoulder. "You saved me, thank you."
"It was no problem, citizen. I'm just doing my job." Jeff tried to turn and leave.
"You are Jefferson. You act just like him?" Amanda pulled him around to look into his eyes. "Yes, you may be older, but your eyes are the same."
"Aye, boss, we need to get going. The po-po are on the way." Carion broke up the staring contest they were in.
Jeff turned and sighed. "I'm getting too old for this." Several bars of aluminum materialized into existence. Wrapped around everyone, including Amanda. "Don't freak out if you want to talk. Bare with me, and don't worry, Sarah is safe." He lifted them all and flew off. When they reached the spot they had arrived, he asked Carion. "Toss them back to our time."
"We not going back just yet?" Carion asked as he reached a handout. The air seemed to bend and twist as a hole seemed to appear. Gold energy sparked with lightning around the edges. Once finished, the middle looked like a mirror reflecting the future. People with magic waited on the other side for the criminals. "Yo peeps, take care of these guys. Oh, and careful with her. She is a Jumper." Carion waved a hand, and the ground exploded, sending them all flying into the hole.

"No," Jeff answered simply where the others couldn't hear.
"Hey Carion, what's going on?" One of the people on the other side asked.
"Nothing much, dude. We just want to be sure we got them all. Don't wait up." Carion winked at them and snapped his finger, closing the hole in time.
"Please tell me you didn't destroy the hole while we were on this side?" Jeff asked in a harsh tone.
"Oh please, I may be a half-wit. But even I'm not stupid enough to get us stuck here. There is no way I want to go through another disaster." Carion said dramatically.
"Fine, we will discuss your lie later." Jeff shook his head.
"Man, it won't be a lie if we do find someone. With our luck, there could be a couple dozen people from the future here." Carion crossed his arms and smiled.
"Right, Amanda know anywhere we can speak privately?" Jeff being in his early seventies, couldn't remember much from this time.
"Sure, Auntie Jean should be at work. You remember where Jet lives?" Amanda asked.
"What, we get to see where Ford was raised?" Carion asked excitedly.
"No, you can look around for trouble. Do me a favor, and don't be the cause of the trouble." Jeff didn't even let Carion complain. Because he flew off before he could say anything, it didn't take them long to reach the house.
"I got a key." Amanda started, but it was unnecessary. Jeff just waved a hand, and the door opened. "Ok, I know the password for the alarm."
"Jeff, you bastard. Trying to leave me behind." Carion came out of nowhere.
"How come you only use my name when you're mad?"
"You don't deserve to be called boss when you pull shit like that." Carion huffed and crossed his arms.
"Look, I want to talk with an old friend." Jeff got interrupted.
"It's not that," Carion looked at Jeff seriously. "I promised I'd never let anything happen to you. Now, I'll be waiting out here." Carion sat on one of the chairs on the porch and looked towards the setting sun.
When they got into the house, Jeff's heart throbbed at all the memories. "It looks almost the same. A few missing pictures and items. But the place looks almost the same in my time."
Amanda walked into Jeff's sight, tears falling down her face. "You come from the future. I got to ask, will Sarah ever be able to walk?" Sarah had been born with damaged and missing nerves in her legs.
Jeff let out a long sigh. "No, Sarah never gets full control of her legs." He could see the horror in Amanda's eyes. "Don't worry. It doesn't get her down. The saddest part of all that is she is a very powerful healer. Yet, her legs can not be healed." He made his way to the couch and sat down. "Can I hold Sarah?" He asked.
Amanda walked over to Jeff and handed Sarah over. Jeff smiled as he looked at her. She had black hair like her mother. But her eyes were purple. "So, my daughter grows up to be a healer?" Amanda sat down as well.
"I'm so tired, so few of us left now," Jeff said to no one in particular.
"So, can I ask any other questions about the future? Like, what are Jet and I doing?" Amanda asked.
Jeff froze at the sudden question. "I knew this was a bad idea." He let out a long breath. "There are some things best never known."
"Then why agree to talk?" She asked.
"It's nice to hear your voice. It's been so long." Jeff just looked into Sarah's eyes and smiled.
"Ok, then tell me what happened to your eye?" Amanda pointed towards the patch on his right eye.
"Oh, I lost my eye trying to save a friend. Ford, I mean Jet at the time gave me a replacement." Jeff removed the patch to show a mechanical eye. "I wear the patch when I'm back in time or on another world. It tends to freak people out."
"The way you act, I'm guessing I'm dead in the future." Amanda could see in Jeff's eye that she was right on the money. But he would not tell her.
"Yes, and Jet dyes a couple of days after you." Carion, at some point, had walked into the house. "He dies in the process of killing everyone that had a hand in killing you."
At this point, Jeff had handed Sarah back to her mother. He walked over to Carion and punched him across the face. "We are not allowed to interfere with the past."
Carion just stood there, unfazed by the punch. "You know that can't happen. Only a Time Jumper can do any real harm to the past, and they're all dead. Ford made sure of that, and what there are maybe two World Jumper's left. Three if you count that woman we found."
"I know. I can already feel the pullback to our time. But still, Amanda didn't need to know." Jeff said.
"From the stories I've heard from Ford. The little you said was enough for her to find out." Carion looked over to Amanda and smiled. "I believe Ford said don't be fooled by the girly appearance. She would give Jeff a run for his money in smarts."
"I wouldn't go that far. Jeff knows some weird things." Amanda seemed to be taking her to imitate death in stride. "Plus, everyone one dies eventually. Whether it be young or old, just do me a favor and don't tell me how soon that will be. But I would like to know how Jet is in the future if he dies a couple of days after me?"

Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more.
