《The Alteras Games: World Jumper Book 2》Chapter 12

Jet was back at speed, typing with one arm again. "Well, I tried. This stupid machine is stuck on. Not only that, the AI wants us to take it to the Alteras Tower. Something about wanting to see what is going on with the main AI. Also, here is more good news. This place is about to flood and or explode. Not sure which will be first."

"Wait, you're telling me that the idiots who built this place didn't put a manual shut-off?" Jeff asked.

"No, they did. We just need to swim down about two hundred feet to the switch." Jet looked over the ledge. "Maybe more now."

"Two hundred feet is doable." Jeff thought aloud.

Jet stopped typing and looked at him. "Ok, Mr hero, go swimming in the boiling water." He shook his head and kept looking through the terminal.

"You know what, maybe we should break out instead," Jeff interjected.

"Great idea or we could use another elevator out. If any of them work." Jet whispered the last part. "Finally."

"What?" Jeff asked.

"I found a blueprint of this place." Jet went silent for a while. "So, Jeff, what do you make of this?" He let Jeff look at the screen.

Jeff's jaw dropped slightly. "Jet, how deep are we?"

"There are three elevators out. This number," Jet pointed to the screen. "Says that the elevator tunnel is a hundred miles long. This place is roughly thirty miles tall and fifty wide cube. Except below us goes down another fifteen miles."

"Ok, so I notice two of the elevator tunnels are red. Do we have to go back up the same one we come down?" Jeff asked.

"No, that one collapsed a week ago. There is only one way out of here." Jet pointed at the screen. "It happens to be in the opposite direction of the others."

Jeff sighed. "Of course, why not."

"My thoughts exactly." The room shaking was becoming more noticeable. "So, we best hurry up. The AI was the only thing keeping the place from collapsing. It's not even cooling at all now."

"Don't have to tell me twice. Make us the way back." Jeff said.

"You wouldn't happen to have more food? I'm really hungry still." Jet asked as he created an ice slide down to the water.

"Nope gave it all to you already."

"Great, I'm going to die on an empty stomach." Jet complained.

"I thought you had a plan to get out?" Jeff said.

"Sure, if you want to call it that." Jet found his old ice that wasn't melted yet. He followed his old path until he went off in another direction. "Follow the ice path back. I need to get a few things before we go, and you better have a meal ready when I get back."

"What your getting better be important." Jeff kept running towards the others.

'I don't know if they're important. But I'm not about to leave pieces of my arm here when I can still feel them.' Jet thought as he quickly made his way to the closest he could feel.

It only took Jet an extra half hour to find all the pieces and get back. He frowned when he saw them. "I was dead serious about the meal."

Jeff frowned at him. "And well, where were we supposed to make this meal?"

Jet looked at the already flooded area. Jeff had Tulle in a princess carry, standing on the remaining ice. "Fine, is there anything I can eat? My magic regeneration is slowing down to a crawl."

Kayley smiled and pulled out some food from her earring. "We just made a trip for supplies. How much will you need?"

"All of that, for sure. Using my magic to keep me going without food for a week while using it has me very tired." Jet grabbed the food and looked at Kayley's earrings. They were gold with red gems in them. He hadn't seen them until now.

"I'm pretty sure I said you were gone more than two weeks," Jeff said.

"I'm staying in denial for now. Ok, where is Alex so we can get out of here?" Jet asked.

Jeff pointed at Jet's head. "She leaped onto your head when you got back. Pretty sure she went to sleep."

"What are you in denial about?" Kayley interrupted.

"Nothing, let's get moving." Jet said, feeling for Alex on his head. Then took off in another direction.

Jeff remembered the map they had looked at but wasn't sure how Jet knew which way to go. "Hey, Jet, how do you know you're having a kid? I happen to know you didn't have time back on Earth for Amanda to show the signs. Obviously, you guys must have had sex, but it doesn't mean she is pregnant." He stopped when Jet came suddenly and looked back at him.

"Really, man, why are you telling everyone this? A little privacy would be nice. I didn't even mean for you to find out." Jet went back to work, creating a path. Why did he have to go and tell Jeff, of all people?

"Sorry, Jet didn't know it was a secret. Didn't even know you and her had gone that far." Jeff said.

Jet gave up and decided to tell them. "Fine. Before Amanda was about to get killed, I saw the baby's magic. It had to be a baby. Amanda doesn't have any magic. Also, yes, it was our first time." He sighed. 'Kinda hard not to have sex when the girl you love is half naked in bed with you.' Jet thought and looked around.

"Guys, it is getting hotter. Also, way too much information Jetsford." Kayley added.

"You asked what I was in denial about. But more to the point, I don't have enough magic to keep going much longer. As for the heat, the supercomputer is close by." Jet said, panting. He was not joking about being extremely tired.

"Would it be easier on you just to produce light?" Kayley asked.

"Yeah, maintaining a fireball for light wouldn't take as much magic as long as it's close by." Jet stopped to look at her.

"Ok, make your fireball brighter. I'll take it from here. Just make sure we go in the right direction." Kayley walked past Jet. Once his fireball lit the place better, she created a path of shadow.

"I see. That's how your magic works." Jet remembered back when he had first seen her magic.

"Great, you caught on to my weakness. Try not to tell the whole world about that." Kayley sighed.

"What are you two going on about?" Hogan asked.

"Don't worry about it," Jeff answered. "The better question is, how much further to the elevator?"

"It was on the opposite wall of us. So, almost fifty miles." Jet reminded Jeff.

"So, we won't make it in a day. Basically, we are hoping this place doesn't collapse too soon." Jeff said.

"Why don't we just go back up and use the elevator we come down on?" Kayley asked.

Jet then went on to explain the entire situation. "So unless they use that elevator much. They may not even know it doesn't work anymore."

"So, how will you know where it is when we reach the other side?" Hogan said in between breaths.

"These giant cooling coils. As long as we follow this row and make a right when we hit the wall. The elevator should be two more rows over. Now the biggest problem is it will most likely be underwater when we get there. Hopefully not fully submerged. Unlike the elevator that the slavers found, this one is ground level. The one they had found is like a viewing station at the top." Jet explained feeling better the more he ate. He looked over to Jeff. "I'm amazed Tulle is still asleep."

"I gave her something for the pain and to put her asleep." Kayley huffed. She hadn't been using her magic long. But you could already see the strain it was putting on her.

They jogged onward for another hour. Before Jet noticed that Kayley's shadows were not as stable, he decided to make them an ice platform to stop on. "Ok, we need a night's sleep or day. Not sure if the sun is up or down out there."

"So what's the plan for sleeping? Are we going to sleep on this ice you made?" Hogan asked.

Jet considered the options. Then concluded to do what he had done before. With the last bit of his magic, he pushed the water away. Then made a wall, much thinner this time. He noticed the water would probably go six inches over his knees now. So he was hoping this was just a lower spot on the floor. Because if the place was filling with water that fast. They would have to swim down to the elevator. Jet leaped down and said. "Wake me if the water gets close to the top of the wall." He basically fell down and went to sleep. With food in his stomach, his magic would regenerate much faster while he slept.

"Did he just collapse and go to sleep?" Kayley asked.

"Jet shouldn't even be able to get around in his condition. Before we even came to this world, he was in bad shape. All this abuse to his body can't be good." Jeff checked on his friend to make sure he hadn't just died.

"Well, I'm not a healer. But I've met people who have lost a limb. Generally, they are in bed for at least a week. The amount of blood loss alone should make him ill." Hogan sat down and leaned on the wall. "I'll keep an eye on the water level."

"No, you get some sleep. I'll keep first watch on the water level. Jetsford's arm needs to be attended to, so I'll stay up for now." Kayley looked over at Hogan. He was already asleep. She looked over to Jeff, who had Tulle in his arms. He had also leaned on the wall and fallen asleep. "Ok, everyone is asleep already." She muttered as she got to work on Jet's arm, which wasn't even a stub.

Jet wasn't sure what to think. He had managed to go back to the field of grass in his dreams. Noticing something new in the grass, he walked over to check what it was. It was the bones and cores of his arm. "So this is what happened to them."

"Uh, Jet, how did you get in here?"

Jet turned to see Alex at her full size, looking down at him. "So, since you woke up, your are not in that glass ball anymore."

Alex stared at Jet. "What are you talking about?"

"If you don't know, then no point and asking. Guess my next question is what is this place?" Jet waved an arm at the field. Then realized he had a right arm in this place.

"Not sure, but it has gotten bigger over time. I barely fit on the island at first. Now I can roll around. Holy crap is that the remains of your arm." Alex looked back and forth between Jet and the bones. "Wait, you have an arm here."

"Yeah, pretty nifty. Don't help me much in the outside world. So I'm going to say we're inside of myself, which is totally awesome. I wonder if I can put other stuff from outside in here?" Jet thought of all the things he could put in the place.

"Hey, stop thinking about cluttering my personal space," Alex complained.

"But Alex, we could store supplies. I wonder if we could get electricity in here. I could have some entertainment while not on Earth." Jet noticed a glare from Alex. "What?"

"I think something is wrong outside. Jet, you need to get out of here." Alex looked at Jet seriously.

Jet was about to ask how when he was slammed back into reality. The ground rumbled beneath him, and he was also soaked. He freaked out when he noticed rocks falling on them. "What's going on?"

"About time you woke. I think one of the coils of this place just blew up." Jeff was covering Tulle so the rubble wouldn't hit her.

"That shouldn't have happened quite yet." Jet used what little magic he had left to create a bright fire to look around. The falling rocks were a problem. But he had to figure out what to do with the giant tidal wave headed their way. Jet stood up and looked at the wave headed toward them. He had no magic left in his body to use. The others were busy figuring out how to take cover, which was pointless.

"I could try and create a metal wall," Jeff said.

"Do you have enough metal?" Hogan asked in hope.

"No," Jeff simply put.

Jet raised his left arm, having no clue what he was doing. Blue cracks spider-webbed on his arm. His arm glowed with his magic. It waved through the air. The tsunami touched the tip of his finger. "I command the become ice." With those words, the tsunami turned to what looked like crystals.
