《Vampire's Betrayal》Chapter Fifteen

Donny didn't return to the mall to pick me up until it almost closed. I got bored after a while and wanted to head back as soon as possible. Even the book I bought couldn't keep me busy long enough to pass the time away. My phone died, so I couldn't watch any videos or text anyone. I was stuck sitting in the food court waiting for Donny to finally decide to show up.

When he finally showed up, he looked even more angry than when he dropped me off. He didn't say a word to me as we pulled out of the parking lot and back towards the house. He didn't even notice me placing his credit card in the cup holder between us. Just the aura he was giving off was suffocating. It also made the ride back feel like it was so much longer than it really was. I had never been so happy to get out of a car in my entire life.

Before we entered, Donny turned towards me, "Go straight to my room and don't leave. I'll have someone bring your clothes to you."

His red eyes looked darker for some reason. They chilled me to the bone and it took every bit of willpower to not shiver. It was making me regret leaving Seadonna Tower because this is what it's like being with the enemy. Or, at least what I was told it was like being with them.

Entering the house, I did what I was instructed. Feeling Donny's eyes on me the whole way. The feeling didn't even stop as I closed the door. The air in the house was different from earlier. It felt darker. Like something shifted and it just made me want to run away. You could say that the air almost felt evil.

There was a light knock on the door, startling me a little bit. I opened the door slightly to see who it was but no one was there. On the other side of the door were my bags of clothes. Confused on who could have brought them so quietly and quickly, I grabbed them and placed them near Donny's bed. I had no idea where I was supposed to put them. I just decided leaving them in the bags was the best choice until I could talk to Donny about it.

As I was going through the bags, I saw a small folded piece of paper. Curious, I picked it up and unfolded it. One the paper it said a few words, "Full moon. Lock door if you can." Understanding why the air felt different, I quickly went to Donny's bedroom door. There wasn't a lock on it, so I had to settle for the next best thing. The only problem is that I had no idea what the next best thing was.

Everything in the room was pretty useless. Then I remembered Donny's private garden and the chairs we sat in earlier. I quickly ran out of the door and grabbed the chairs. Dragging them in the room, I made sure one was jammed under the handles to the door outside. It probably wouldn't do any good since the door was more glass than actual door. But I had no choice. Grabbing the other chair, I jammed it under the handle of the other door. Once that was done I grabbed the comforter on the bed along with a pillow.

I wasn't sure how things were here with the full moon. The only knowledge I had was what I learned in my classes before things were revealed to all be a lie. Those with Gene V were most likely to be a little more feral during full moons. It was also the time when they drank blood and became more of the monsters everyone thought they were. Then I remembered that I was one of them now and I got nervous.

A knock on the glass made me jump and quickly turn towards the glass door. On the other side was David and he held something in his hand. Hesitantly, I went to remove the chair from under the knob. His ember eyes glowed as he handed out what he was holding. Not saying anything and it was probably so I didn't feel uncomfortable. But I still felt uncomfortable as my eyes landed what it was he was giving to me.

"The gene is going to start acting up soon. It takes a while for new stage twos," he explained, "It's best to have this nearby when the cravings kick in. But it will turn your eyes red."

His words had me look at him. "What is that supposed to mean?" I asked.

"The only way to keep your eyes from changing red is to feed off your partner or ignore the cravings," he explained more.

The realization about why his eyes were ember and not red suddenly hit me like a wall. What was the consequence of not feeding during a full moon? Especially when you go as long as what David seemed to have gone for?

"Leah, just take it. You don't have to drink it, but please put my mind at ease," he said.

I looked him in the eyes, "What about you?"

David placed the blood bag in my hand, "I've survived this long. You don't need to worry about me."

After that he pushed me back into Donny's bedroom and closed the door for me. I just stood there as he turned and started to walk away. Part of my heart broke to see him leave and another part was touched that he thought about me. Looking at the blood bag put a smile on my face. He didn't have to give it to me, but he went out of his way to do so. It seemed like David was starting to do little things that was picking away at the ice around my heart. If he kept this up, I just might fall in love with him.
