LBF Chapter 23 Elemental Synthesis
Damien felt a rush of excitement, every blood vessel within him was moving blood at a heightened rate. The reason for his excitement was the central region.
The elemental aura was so dense that it was blinding, it was like an ocean of seven colors.
Here every casual street walker that he saw was a demigod, a feat which surprised him greatly. They had just popped out of the spatial tunnel and this scene had entered his eyes.
His nascent divinity, which was usually unresponsive had even twitched once, causing his heart to feel as if was about to burst.
"How...?" He had a million questions, but failed to utter them.
"This is the central district of Pantheon city. Here, only the ruler of Pantheon city had influence. Domain lords don't. This is also the only place with an ocean of elemental particles..." Nina started explaining. There was a shimmering golden light covering her features, with only Damien being able to see through it.
The people here weren't like those on the fringes. If she didn't mask herself, they would figure out her identity in half a second, and a few minutes later, it would be over the headlines.
Damien directed his attention to the massive circular pillar-like tower on the distance. It was brown and rough, a result of a congregation of dense earth elemental particles. But he couldn't see the tell-tale signs of the woven particles, instead, they were all arranged in the form of an atom, causing him endless bewilderment.
Before he could ask about the strange formation, he felt his hand being grabbed and being led somewhere.
Nina blushed when she linked her hand with his but she had had no choice as he was acting too much like a bumpkin which brought embarrassment to her due to the stares by the passerbys.
"There is somewhere we must first go, before I take you above." She said.
Damien knew of her identity so he knew that she was referring to that tower. It's height was inestimable to him as the elements became too dense at a certain height, preventing his gaze from gauging it. But the dense elements failed to block the moonlight from the moon ring, a curious thing.
"Where are we going?" Damien asked as he sped up to keep pace with her.
"We are going to meet an elemental synthesizer." She answered after which she fell silent.
Damien didn't ask more, instead his gaze roamed the surroundings. Every structure that he laid his eyes on boggled his mind. They weren't special or dazzling, just weirdly and magnificently designed buildings, but each and every one had its elemental particles in the same weird configuration as the circular tower he had laid eyes on at the beginning.
"All the buildings you see except the tower have been constructed through the synthesis of elements." Nina knew what he was puzzled about, so she supplemented with knowledge.
'Synthesizers...I wonder why they can arrange the particles in the form of an atom. I have tried it but failed, so...' Damien's curiosity about the art of synthesis started to increase.

In a large opulent hall with purple colored two dimensional shapes adorning its white walls, many lifeforms were seated. Some were still even arriving and taking seats wherever they could. The faint pressure that emanated from them signified these beings as demigods, a shocking thing considering that there were very few such beings in the galaxy. But here in Pantheon city, demigods were much too common.

Damien held himself back from gasping at the sheer numbers of the lifeforms. His cursory glance told him that in this hall alone, there were already a bit over 300 such lifeforms with more arriving by the minute. His red eyes scanned around and discovered that some had opted to obscure their features, much like Nina at his side.
This hall was designed in resemblance to an amphitheater, with the ground arranged in the form of stairs. Right now, they had just entered, and were at the highest point on the hall.
Many lifeforms had already taken seats, mostly the front seats. They were all calmly and silently seating there, but he could tell by the faint excitement in the air that they were anticipating something or someone.
Nina led him down the staircase designed floor and they sat down on one of the steps. It was smooth and very hard when stepped upon, but when he sat, he felt it becoming soft and comfortable.
"Why did you bring me here?" Damien sent a mental thought. The solemness of the atmosphere also caused him to subconsciously prevent himself from whispering or talking.
"I applied to be in this lecture. One of the famous elemental synthesizers, held in the highest if regards by the other gods is going to be lecturing about synthesizing." Nina explained, removing all his doubts about the situation.
"Pantheon city sure is powerful. If all these demigods are released into the galaxy, it would shock the masses." Damien praised, his eyes glinting.
"None of these people want to leave this city. This city is full of opportunities. The milky way galaxy is considered a barren place here." She answered.
"Well...after seeing just a tiny bit, even I agree with that assessment." Damien sighed. If the lifeforms out there had the means, they would probably scramble to get here.
Damien and Nina sat for about a few minutes waiting for the hall to get full. Once the hall got full, the front...the stage abruptly got illuminated by bright light while the seats for the audience darkened.
Damien got a feeling that this appeared to resemble one of those university lectures back on Earth. It brought a nostalgic feeling which he hurriedly dispersed. This lecture was important as he was going to finally become enlightened about elemental synthesis.
A side door opened and a man entered...the countless gazes fell upon him, brimming with a myriad of emotions. A normal person would have died at the power contained in the gazes alone. When a five stringed elemental powerhouse reached demigod level, every breath, every gaze and every action contained a bit of the charm housed within their nascent divinity. During normal times, they restrained their powers, but now, Damien was shocked to see the lifeforms here momentarily losing control.
The man who had walked out was middle aged, had long green hair and a neatly trimmed beard. His green eyes appeared to gazing beyond this dimension. He was handsome and sage-like. All the gazes from the crowd didn't even so much as faze him even a little bit.
He was dressed in a long golden robe with seven star shaped dots on its left chest. Each of the seven dots denoted each of the seven elements.
Damien had the faint feeling that the man's attention wasn't even on the audience, instead, he appeared to be contemplating something within his mind, something which appeared to be of immense gravity. He looked like those physicists contemplating a very complex formula.
"Now that the room is filled, I can get in with the lecture. My time is very important so I won't be answering any questions..."

He paused here and his gaze finally roamed to those seated in the audience. But no one appeared dissatisfied with his impatient tone. Damien felt multiple gazes linger on the seven stars at the man's chest.
"...let's get straight to it then. First, how well do any of you know elemental particles?" He asked as the wall behind him lit up and seven images appeared on it. That must have been a rhetorical question because he saw no one jump at the chance to answer.
"The seven elemental particles, when magnified millions of times, look like this." The man started. Damien and all the demigods had their eyes attracted to the seven differently colored spheres on the screen.
One was red, its surface constantly shifting, like the sun. Another was blue, even its surface distinctively resembled a water sphere...
There was a light green one, which appeared to look like a tornado in spherical form, a mother looked like a normal perfectly round piece of earth.
Then there was a dark green sphere which Damien had the illusion that it resembled the surface of a planet, with many green plants on it.
For the last two spheres, they were the exact opposite of each other, one releasing a blinding light, while the other was dark, and it gave the illusion that the darkness was shifting around the longer one looked at it.
"These are the seven elemental particles, but each individual elemental particle...let's say the particles of fire, don't resemble each other, in other words they are exact copies. At the start of our evolutionary journey, we start out with a string made up of particles composed of one element, then as we add more, like genetic strands, it gets more and more complicated..." Damien listened very attentively. Even though he already knew most if the things the man was talking about, he was still sucked in with his eloquence. He wasn't the only one as no one else could be seen acting as if it was boring.
"But, even though we add on more strings, the amalgam still stays with the basic structure of strings simply bonded to each other. I won't explain nascent divinities and divinities since they are going to be covered in what I am going to be talking about next." The man paused here and removed a bottle from his space ring. He raised it and gulped down the drink inside.
"...all of us have an inkling of the mist fundamental particle in the universe, the atom, which is further made up of quarks."
"It is made up of a neutron being orbited by electrons. The point here is that elemental particles don't behave in such a way, making it very difficult for them to interact with matter..."
"A synthesizer is a person who has the ability to arrange the particles and make them behave like an electron. I will start with the basic model." The man said, after which the screen behind him switched images.
The next one that appeared was made up of two fire particles. One was stationary, while the other was rotating around it I'm orbit.
"The fire element is my favourite element so I couldn't help myself." The middle aged man said.
"This is basically what a first class synthesizer can make. Let me first start by talking about the qualifications needed to become a synthesizer..."
The man moved away from the podium and paced around the stage. Damien who had been focussed, perked up his ears to the max. Nina had said that he needed to become a synthesizer of he wanted to continue progressing once he became a god.
"Ah! There is also something I am going to disclose at the end of this lecture. It will probably make you people ecstatic...now, first you need a catalyser."
"It looks like this." The man said while taking out a white cube. It was about 30 cm and was so smooth that it shined.
"A catalyser is a device capable of allowing the designing of a synthetic particle. It is a device which can control pressure and temperature of a particle. It has micro control tools which can facilitate the synthesis."
"First, you place a particle which you want as the nucleus inside. It can be any of the seven. Now, here comes the tricky part. The second part is to make sure the the particle starts spinning on its axis like a planet. Once it starts spinning, it will generate a gravitational force..." The man didn't proceed to visually demonstrate even though he had the device on hand, something Damien found to be a pity.
"As the sun generates a gravitational force to act on the matter within its influence, this particle's rotation is essentially doing the same thing. Every particle has a different speed at which it can produce a gravitational pull, for fire particles, it falls between 1 million rpm (revolutions per minute) and 1.23 billion rpm. Though this figure isn't concrete. Some particles can be under this figure, or over." The man explained patiently.
Even though he had a higher status than all of the demigods here, he gave his knowledge selflessly.
"In order for a demigod to sense the right speed, they need to follow the instincts of their nascent divinity. It will guide them. That's also the reason why each synthesizer is unique."
"Any way, I have tried to explain this as thoroughly as possible, I hope that you have understood. This catalyser can be purchased from anywhere. Purchase one and start to practise. Start with a single particle, then add another. Don't bite off more than you can chew. Do remember, if you try to work with multiple elemental particles, the substance produced might kill you instantly!"
"I have seen many in the same profession who died because something they couldn't control was produced. One of the examples is the undying vine. I assume all of you have heard about that incident." The man's words caused visible expressions of fear to color most of the audience's faces.
Damien's face had question marks written all over it. What was this undying vine the man had talked about?
His face turned towards his only acquaintance to ask the question only for her to beat him at it...
"The undying vine is a terrifying life form created by a certain synthesizer. It was an accidental creation. The moment it appeared, it gained consciousness and devoured the woman who created it and then proceeded to grow at a terrifying rate! Many demigods tried to annihilate it only to fail, and I heard that a god had to be requested. According to witnesses, with its growth speed, it would have covered the entire Pantheon city within a 1000 years."
Damien was shocked beyond words! He had seen the gigantic size of this floating continent. Even if he spent a billion years travelling, he was sure that he couldn't get from one end to the other even with his speed as a demigod, not to mention reaching every nook and crany...yet the lifeforms would have managed that feat in a 1000 years!?
"I think I have come to the end of this lecture. If you want more detailed information, you can check out my virtual place. Don't forget to register in ordered to enter..."
"...as a synthesizer, I am excited to announce that one of my creations has been confirmed to be able to instantly promote a demigod to the level of a God without any consequences, like the god fruit." The middle aged man's excitement was visible all over his face.
"What!?"
"Something like that has become possible?"
"I must become a synthesizer!"
"For real!?"
The entire hall broke into an uproar the moment the announcement was made. This was game changing!
Damien felt a burst of something in his heart. He was happy to be in Pantheon city right now. This discovery would probably take some time to reach those in the galaxy outside this dimensional space, but he was one of those who were going to have a headstart.
Before the crowd could even ask for clarification, the middle aged man left through the side door.
"This changes everything!" Nina mumbled beside Damien. She was also shocked by this. This meant that the power structure was going to shift in the near future! Chaos was definitely coming!

Moonshot
Gregarious businessman Evin Tumble is fascinated by the sudden and inexplicable appearance of a low-orbiting moon. Specifically, he's interested in shooting it down with a giant cannon. The moon is only about eight miles overhead, but it's high enough and quick enough that nobody can reach it by balloon or airship. He hires our protagonists: taciturn Iseult Morrin, cheerful Sean Whelan, and nervous Íde Ceallaigh, to help him with his obsession. As our heroes are dispersed across the continent to perform tasks for Tumble, and the moon-hunt draws closer, they become increasingly suspicious of their benefactor's motives and true nature. Moonshot is a story centred around struggling with confidence, the difficulty of being an immigrant, and the duality of truth, all clad in the trappings of an urban fantasy. It is character-driven, from the heart, and based on tropes and ideas that are missing from a lot of contemporary fantasy (a push beyond the flawless-yet-somehow-still-needs-rescuing-by-an-oafish-man heroine trope, a touch of cosmic magic based on the shared geometries of Celtic and Arab art).
