《The Diamonds》Codename Agent Black

I smiled as I sat down on the rooftop, staring down at the city below me. My hooded cloak swayed in the breeze and the short blade I normally use hung on my belt in its sheath. My weapon swayed in the breeze as I stared out into the open cityscape.
I work for a special division for the CIA called, the Diamond Division and I have no idea why I can't just work with the other agents in the CIA. The head of The Diamond Division said it had something to do with how much strength me and the others that work in this division have. Honestly, though, I think that's a sorry excuse to separate us from the other agents. But at the same time, I have seen agents in my division jump off of a fifty-foot-story building and land on their feet and land, unscathed and unbothered by the massive fall! But of course, when this happens a huge pothole is left behind.
I also have to wear a stupid mask that just goes around my eyes to hide my identity when I'm out on a mission. And I have to go by a ridiculous codename, Agent Black and my twin Simon's codename is Agent Shadow. I would introduce myself but now is not the right time to.
I'm actually out on a mission right now, so I'll just go by my codename. In case you're wondering, I'm a woman, and my twin Simon, not on assignment with me, is a man.
I'm glad I got a chance to stare up at the night sky and at the beautiful stars. It's not cloudy tonight and perfect for stargazing, even if you're out on a mission. I was sitting down eating some food when I got a call over my radio on my ear.
"Agent Black," a voice said, "Agent Black come in!"
Oh shit, I thought, I just have to get a call while I’m eating! Just can't catch a break, can I?
I gobbled the rest of my cheeseburger down and drank the last gulp of my juice before answering the call. "This is Agent Black, what's up?"
"Agent Black," the voice said, "we have intel on what you're after this time has been moved to another location. The Ruby Statue has been moved to a place called, The Grove, it's a place in the underground market just south of here. Since it is nighttime, please move with stealth and try to blend in with your surroundings. Use your powers with discretion. One more thing Agent Black."
"Yes?" I asked.
"Try not to leave any potholes if you decide to jump off a building. You might want to stay on the rooftops this time," The voice said.
I shook my head and groaned, "Yes, got it, I can do that."
Once the radio transmission was cut, I headed out to see where the Ruby Statue was.

{Ron}
"Ron, what the hell are you doing this time?" Simon asked.
I was in the technician's room working on the latest weapon that I hoped would impress Abigail, once she got back from her mission. I looked up to see Simon was standing there in front of me and giving me a cross look. I looked up at him from the weapon I was making and rolled my eyes. "I’m sure you would like to know."
Simon smirked when he saw the weapon I was working on. "Oh I get it now, you're working on something like a little present to impress Abigail again, aren't you?"

I rolled my eyes again. "What do you think?"
"Maybe you should just ask her out on a date already?" Simon suggested.
I shook my head. "Nah, I'm good! Besides, she doesn't even know I exist! The only way I can think of to get her to notice me is to make her something she'll be impressed by. Honestly, I think she's more interested in Asher than me."
Simon snorted, "Nope, she's not interested in him, not one little bit. If anything, Asher is more interested in her. From what I've seen, Asher just gets on her nerves and I've seen her hide or walk the other way when he comes around. However, she doesn't seem to mind you much. If I didn't know any better I'd say she does like you. But since we can't read each other's minds, you won't know until you ask. Hey did you hear the news?"
I nodded. "You mean about the new Agent by the name of Wrinkler?"
Simon nodded. "Yup! I hear he's going to be high in the ranks in our division too!"
There was a message over the intercom: "Returning, agents are: Agent Snowy and Agent Red." Another message over the intercom played shortly after: "Agents still out on missions: Agent Black, Agent Gray, Agent Magenta, and Agent Blue Topaz." The next message that played was, "Agents on call are: Agent Blue, Agent Silver, Agent Shadow, Agent Ruby, Agent Purple, and Agent White. That is all the updates for now."
I frowned. "Great, Asher's still here, I forgot he wasn't out on missions until he recovered from his last one. That idiot always thinks he's invisible! Why can't he remember what he's learned in his training? I mean, come on! We do training once a week unless we're out on a mission. It makes me wonder why he's still an agent."
Simon shrugged. "I have no idea why the guy is still an Agent. You might want to ask Patty about that one. She is the one that hands out assignments after all."
"Hey, I heard my name," said Asher, "and I heard the insults behind it! That's not nice, you know."
I turned around to see Asher walking into the room with a smug look on his face as if the insults I said about him were pats on the back, instead.
"You know for someone that feels insulted," I said, "you look like I just paid you a compliment or something."
Asher smirked. "Well, I guess you could say it's a compliment because you seem to feel threatened by me as far as Abigail is concerned. Her codename might be Black, but if you ask me, she should have the name ‘cat’ added to it. You know, because she has cat-like reflexes and I like that in a woman!"
Simon gagged and I could tell by the look on his face that he didn't like the way Asher just described his twin sister. Asher frowned. "What's that look for Simon?"
"Your description of Abigail makes me want to throw up every single time!" Simon snapped.
"So, Ron," said Asher, as he turned his attention back to me. "I think we should have some healthy competition."
"For what?" I asked.
"For the heart of Abigail," said Asher. "First one to go out on a date with her, and I mean a real date, wins!"
"Okay, and what does the winner get?" I asked.
"Uh, Abigail of course," said Asher in a matter of fact way, "duh!"

"Are you two fighting over Abigail?" I heard Kari say.
Simon laughed when he saw her, "Yup! And Asher just decided to challenge Ron to see who can win Abigail over first."
Kari groaned, "You know something you two, Abigail has had a lot on her mind lately. Especially when she gets sick after she hears the ‘W’ word."
I paused as I realized I had forgotten all about how Abigail gets sick every time she hears the word 'war' and no one knows why.
"I still have no idea why that happens," Simon said. "Last time I checked, Abigail never fought in a war. But then again, I didn't meet up with her again until ten years ago. Before she started working here."
"Have you tried asking her about it?" Kari asked.
Simon shook his head. "Nope and I'm not so sure if that's a good idea. Especially if it's going to make her sick when I ask her."
Kari nodded. "Good idea and I'm not asking her about that either." She turned and looked at me and Asher. "And that should go for you two also. If you want to win her over, don't say it, okay?"
I nodded. "Okay, yeah sure."
Asher didn't say anything, he just nodded in agreement. I can't speak for him, but I'm going to be the one to win Abigail over and not Asher.

{Agent Black}
Once I got to the place called The Grove, I slipped into the women's bathroom and pressed the button on the ‘black diamond’ brooch I wore. My outfit disappeared and I was in regular clothing just like that. However, I did manage to hide my weapon underneath my shirt.
I blended into the crowd of people with no problem, not even raising the alarm that someone new had just come on the scene. I smiled and thought, Wow no one cares if someone new just popped up. But then again this is the black market after all.
I made my way over to a jewelry booth featuring various treasures of all shapes and sizes. I thought if anyone might know some information on where the Ruby Statue was, it would probably be this seller.
I went over to the booth and pretended that I was looking for a gift. The cashier looked up at me and smiled. "Well now, what can I get for a beautiful woman like yourself?"
I literally bit my tongue to keep myself from rolling my eyes because yet again, I was getting hit on by a total stranger.
I stopped biting my tongue so I could speak, "Yes, I'm looking for something very special. I don't know if you know of it, but it's called the Ruby Statue. It's very important to me,” I nodded. “Someone stole it and brought it here, but I don't know where it is."
The seller narrowed his eyes at me and looked at my black diamond brooch on my shirt. "You wouldn't happen to be a DA, would you?"
The letters DA mean Diamond Agent. Only certain sellers in the black market or places like it, know what to look for when it comes to agents like me.
I smiled and shook my head. "Why whatever are you talking about? I don't know what a DA even is!"
The seller gave me a skeptical look. "Uh-huh, sure you don't. Just wait for a second, I'll see what I have in the back."
When the seller went to the back of his shop, I thought, Now's my chance! I'm going in through the side door.
Before I could do that, the seller came back with two bodyguards that looked like they were bouncers at a strip club. True, they were big and scary looking, but not to me! One of them came up from behind me and said, "Don't make a scene, just come with us, little lady."
I rolled my eyes. I might be small but I'm no pushover out in the field. As a matter of fact, I'm both strong and fast. It’s how I avoid Asher. I'd rather hang around Ron to see what new weapon he might be developing.
That said, I could take down these idiots in the blink of an eye. However, I decided to go with them, instead, figuring this would be a good opportunity to gather more intel on where the Ruby Statue might be.
"Okay sure," I said. "I'll go with you guys."
"Good," The bouncer said.
The guy then grabbed my arms, twisted them behind my back and my wrists together up with a rope.
"You're not taking any chances huh?" I asked while raising an eyebrow.
The bouncer nodded. "Nope! Now let's go!"
The bouncer pushed me forward and followed the other bouncer and the seller into the shop. The next thing I knew, I had a black bag put over my head and where I was going, I had no idea.
* * *
Once I had the bag taken off my head, I looked around to see that I was in a room that wasn't really much of a room at all. Sure the room had four walls and a roof, but it reminded me more of a jail cell than anything else. I was sitting on some sort of thin mattress cot on the floor. I looked at the doors to see that there were bars on them. Yup, this is a jail cell! I wonder why they would bring me here? Unless…
My eyes widened as I realized why I would be sitting in a jail cell that would belong to the enemy. Shit! Not this fucking crap again! There's no way I'm about to be interrogated by the enemy. Not this time. I know that's what goes along with… With that word because of what I went through before I…
I shook my head refusing to remember what happened. Yes, I did go through something, but I refuse to say what it is, even to myself.
Then he came in. Yes him, the enemy with a wicked grin on his face. Even though I've seen him before, I was shown his picture of what he looked like and what his name was. His name was Dr. James William Crow. The file with the information on him said he prefers to go by Dr. Crow for short.
Dr. Crow had to have been at least about 6ft or maybe slightly taller. He was a big dude with the muscles of a competitive bodybuilder.
"Well now," said Dr. Crow, "what do we have here? Another DA snooping around the black market. I wonder, what have you been sent after? No, no, let me guess, the Ruby Statue?"
I didn't say a word, I just snarled at him.
Dr. Crow laughed wickedly. "I'm going to say judging by your reaction, I'm correct, yes?"
I gave him a snide look and thought, No way am I even uttering a word to this stupid bastard!
"So the DA doesn't want to talk, huh?" Dr. Crow said. "Ah yes and I know the information on me probably says that I'm Dr. James William Crow? Yeah, just call me Dr. Crow for short and tell all your little DA friends that too. That is if I decide to let you live after the interrogation."
Nope, I thought, I'm not talking!
Dr. Crow smirked. "Oh, so I have a silent one today. Oh well, I'm curious to see if I'll be able to make you talk or at least scream. Hmm, this is going to be fun. I wonder though, you look familiar to me, DA. Are you possibly one of the DA's that fought in the battle of Shaw Castle? Huh, that war took place over a decade ago! Honestly, I don't remember all of the DA's that fought there. And from what I hear there's been some new DA's added into the mix since then."
Upon hearing the word war, I felt sick to my stomach. I swallowed trying to keep the meal I just ate before coming here down, but it wasn't successful and I threw up right on Dr. Crow's face. I would've laughed at Dr. Crow's reaction but I felt too sick at the moment to do so as I could only grimace.
"Gross!" Dr. Crow said. One of his goons then handed him a towel and he wiped his face off with it. Then he made the mistake of getting in my line of fire and I threw up on his face again. "Well now, it seems I've already done some damage to you by making you sick. I would ask if you’re going to talk, but it might just make you throw up on me again? I think I'll have to do something about that before your intero-"
All of the sudden, someone appeared behind one of Dr. Crow's goons with a medium-sized red hooded cloak similar to the black one that I wore. Whoever this person was, was small and fast, just like me. I heard the crack of the goon's neck as they put their hands on him and twisted his head around. The guy's lifeless body fell to the ground with a thud.
Dr. Crow turned around in surprise when he heard that. "What the hell?"
His other goon that was with him snarled and dove at the person, but all this person had to do was step to the side. The person then picked the guy up by his neck and slammed him up against a nearby wall with such force that his skull got cracked and I was pretty sure he was dead based on the pool of blood around his lifeless body. The sight of blood also makes me sick like the word 'war'. Honestly, I have no idea why that happens either.
This time, I threw up just as Dr. Crow turned around to face the mysterious person that took out his goons.
"Okay, the DA over here throwing up on me is starting to get old," Dr. Crow growled. His eyes went wide in a mix of horror and anger when he saw the person standing in the doorway. "Well if it isn't the Man in the Red Hood that's come to crash the party!"
I finally got a good look at the person in the doorway and I was able to discern that it was indeed a man and he might be a DA just like me because he had a similar mask on his face that just covered his eyes. His mask was a dark red color though and looked nothing like the other DA's. I wondered what this strange man was doing here. I quickly doubted he was here specifically to rescue me and so I had to be ready to fight back if he went in for the kill. I doubted that throwing up on him would deter him from killing me either, although It might delay him.
The man grabbed Dr. Crow and barely managed to put him in a chokehold long enough to make him pass out. That told me one thing, he was after me.
Great, if I'm going to fight this man, I can't pass out, even if I'm sick to my stomach right now. I thought.
The man took a step toward me and my eyes went wide. "Stay back, unless you want to die!"
He smirked. "In case you didn't notice, I don't think you're in the shape to fight me. I'm not here to attack you, Agent Black. I'm-"
"Wait a minute," I said, "how do you know my name? My fighting name I mean. Do you work for-"
The man nodded. "The Diamond Division? Yes, I do." He smiled, “Call me Agent Dawn!"
Agent Dawn pointed to the brooch on my shirt. "You might want to press the button to put your disguise back on. Once you do that, we need to get out of here!"
I nodded and did as I was told. The next thing we did was escape from Dr. Crow's prison.

Mud's Mission
The story begins with an elderly hermit mage living on the outskirts of a labyrinth town. Invoking spellwork that is trivial for a mage of his caliber, he creates a simple mud automaton to aid him in household chores. However, in the middle of his efforts, something goes wrong; his ancient heart finally fails. Now, half complete and with limited understanding of the world, an artificial being of mud stirs. Despite its limitations, it has a mission to fulfill. The last instructions of a dying creator. "Defend my home, and my possessions." To the mechanical mind of Mud, only absolute perfection is acceptable when fulfilling the orders of The Master. Mud will make sure nothing in the universe will ever threaten The Master's home! --- This fiction contains RPG elements such as skills and levels. The protagonist has an inhuman mind and acts on instincts and preferences that are completely different from those of a normal human, and may at times fly in the face of common sense. The general tone is lighthearted, but there are some scenes with disturbing content such as mind control and references to torture. Join our Discord to discuss the novel or chat with the author.
8 110A Nation of Distances (possibly a dystopian love story)
Michael lives in a toxic macho world with extreme male hierarchy. When he gets a weird rating that makes his place even more problematic he's forced to choose a fiancée at a Wife School, and he slowly discovers more about the other side of the great divide between the sexes in The Nation. If only the world would stop being so complicated... On the other side there's Megan, who's more interested in books than in marriage, and the unpredictable Eliza who seems to have a connection with Micheal already. Will they be able to cross the distance and become friends against all the rules of their own world, or will they just be crushed? Are positive relationships between men and women even possible? And is there a way to change the world or is that just a naive thought of a silly wimp? 'A Nation of Distances' is a slightly dystopian dialogue-heavy drama set in a low sci-fi future setting about the war between the sexes, disconnect and friendship. The genre will fluctuate in between more slice-of-life parts and soft sci-fi drama with possible romantic elements, with alternating lead and switching perspectives once more of the main characters are established. Content Warning: Certain concepts and scenes might be disturbing and/or triggering to some, even though the story itself won't be extremely heavy most of the time. Sexism as a double-edged sword destructive to both sexes is an important part of the story, but so is friendship.Note that all descriptions of persons and places are purely fictional and made up by the writer, and any resemblance with anything in the real world is a coincidence, since the real world is not supposed to be dystopian anyway!

8 157Monstrous
A man wakes up in a world entirely unlike his own. One where the wildlife has taken a decidedly weirder evolutionairy path than he is accustomed to. Stumbling through his first moments in this monster filled world, he quickly comes to one conclusion: Something is very wrong with this situation. === The less pretentious version: The main character wakes up a monster, in a monstrous world where magical creatures roam the land killing and eating each other to increase their strength. Humans survive in this world by capturing and taming these creatures, using their magic for their own ends. Basically, he wakes up a pokemon. A very, very, weak, pokemon.
