《Lucky Me!》Chapter 1: About Me

Looking outside the window, I can already see the sun starting to go down. This is not good. Let me explain my situation and why it’s not good. Currently, I’m sitting in my class listening to lecture about Anatomy and Physiology even though the class has been long finished. The professor I have is one of those types that won’t let you leave until he finishes. If you do leave, he gives you penalty for it. So my tip to those of you who are going to attend college soon, please use ratemyprofessor and never doubt the reviews for that professor. I wonder why I decided to ignore the reviews. Ah! Because there are no other classes left! Procrastinator like me deserves this painful punishment. Going back to the topic of why it’s not good for me to leave late is because the neighborhood I live in is located in slum of NYC. Basically the chance of getting robbed, shot, kidnapped for organs are higher than any other possible neighborhoods. This is why I carry a Glock 26 with me on my side. Of course, I do have license with me but having a license doesn’t help me much because it doesn’t give me the right to bring the handgun with me to public. I do it anyways. You also don’t need to worry about my aim in case something does happen to me, because I practiced a lot at the shooting range. I’m superb. Hehe.

Finally the lecture comes to an end and I hurriedly run outside. The sun was setting but still enough is out to leave its bright red color spread out through the sky. I continue to walk to the nearest train station while wondering whether if I should go home during this time. The train near the university to my neighborhood usually takes about 30 minutes and I would have to walk 15 more minutes. It’s 7:00pm right now and thank god for spring! Sun sets much later than it should compare to the winter. I still think it’s not smart for myself to go home at this time. Some of you may say “Aren’t you overreacting?” Sorry, but no. It’s dangerous to a point that they have at least 1 or 2 people getting robbed or shot there. Of course, most of it happens during night time after the sun sets.

I come to a stop front of the train station. I decided to call my friend and ask him if I can stay over for a night since he lives near the university and he got plenty of games to play. That’s right, one may say this was all plotted beforehand and I admit that this was my backup plan from the start. Hehe.

“Hello?”(Friend)

As my friend picked up the phone he coughed few times.

“Hey! Sorry for bothering you, but do you mind if I sleep over at your house?”

“Eh? (Cough) Why all of a sudden?”(Friend)

“It’s kind of late and I’m kind of scared to go home at this time. Haha…”

“Uh… Sure, if you don’t mind me being sick. I’m probably going to be coughing all night (Cough Cough)” (Friend)

“Alright, you want me to get you some medicine? You sound like you are about to faint soon.”

“Yeah, that would be nice. Seems like I don’t have any since I thought that I couldn’t get sick during spring.” (Friend)

“I got you, then I’ll see you!”

As I finished the call, I changed my direction and decided to head to the nearest pharmacy for the medicine.

By the way, the guy that was on the phone is actually a really close friend of mine. I don’t have many friends. I use to have a lot but they were all from religious community. Once, I left the community due to myself being too lazy to go there, we started to hangout less and less. After that, the people so called “friends” never contacted me once again. We would see each other time to time on the train but it’s awkward. Anyways, the guy that was on the phone, we knew each other since middle school and we are really close. I’m glad that I have at least one friend that cares about me. My parents passed away 2 years ago when I was a senior in high school. My father passed away from over working and my mother passed away from cancer. So I’m actually all by myself. I have no relatives because they don’t live in New York. One can say that I’m extremely unlucky, and I agree. For me, I am able to give my attention, effort and love to people who I care about but seems to never receive the same amount back. What a joke, and at the same time I’m a part time student and part time employee and that’s how I live. Working in the mornings and studying in the afternoon. The struggles. Now you know the reason I live in a bad neighborhood. It’s because I can’t afford anything better.Anyways, Enough of me complaining.

After all the walking I have done while complaining, I have finally arrived at the store! Hmm, what should I buy? I decided to buy aspirin, and Nyquil. I bought Nyquil for the cold, and aspirin for the bad headaches? I guess. I also bought two packs of sour patch kids and Snicker bars. I have a thing for sweets. I’ll buy bottle of water for myself. And so, the shopping spree has ended. I smile as I walk thinking about how fun it will be to play games over night. I also haven’t slept over someone’s house for a while so it’s going to be fun.

And as I step outside of the store something bright hit my eyes. By reaction, I covered my eyes and yelled out “Ah Shit! My eyes! What the fuck is going on?”
