Factor Four: The Author
Somewhere out there, there is someone concerned about the state of the world.
But they do not know what to do to correct it. And so they write, in hopes that the words will reach out to someone of importance, or at the very least someone who has the courage and/or foolhardyness to do what the Author cannot do. They will write a fantasy to those who cannot imagine such a future becoming, but a guide to those who can.
Its not the only thing the Author can do, but
He is not courageous, nor does he have much power. Yet his words are so much more to others than to him, and so he'll write, and hopefully

To me, this story is a vehicle for exploring these topics, and also, I wanted to write a story where the protagonist was unafraid of themselves and where their self is more like a git-repo than a meat computer. Disclaimer: This story primarily takes place in what we’d describe as a “cyberpunk dystopia” with some extra technocracy, autocracy, and religious fervor thrown into the mix, so there will be some “grittiness” in this story. Caveat emptor. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character and other characters in my story can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way they view the world isn’t always objective truth (if such a thing even exists) nor do their views and opinions necessarily reflect the views of me, the author.
