《One can only laugh in the face of destiny》14 - End of the Night

Clive learned he got along pretty well with everyone at the table Fred especially. But they had eaten the entire table of food and everyone was exhausted especially, Frank.
Frank had always been at the border fighting this was the most he had ever really talked. It exhausted him more than the longest battles he had ever fought. Clive always seemed to comment something insane like Frank could probably kick Dalnur across the room or that the King had a stupid robe and mustache. Frank obviously could not laugh and not tell anyone what Clive said so he had to try his hardest to keep it in. As one can imagine that got annoying rather fast. Luckily Clive tried wine and got very tired so it was time for everyone to retire for the night. But first Clive needed to be washed. No one wanted to say it out loud but Clive was dirty and kinda smelly.
King Anthon made sure it was okay with Clive before he had the guards take the other people in the Hall out and giving them the command to leave the castle nor say anything about Clive just yet.
Once they started leaving Frank quietly approached the King and the two left to talk while the pixies and dwarves kept Clive busy.
"King Anthon, we need to get someone else to bath Clive tonight. I am not sure the many girls and boys we had lined up to serve the hero will work since Clive is not human they might screw something up and Clive could kill them by mistake." Frank said to the King not sure how the heck they would find someone at this hour.
King Anthon realized that they needed someone with experience with Donkeys ASAP. The only problem was there were no farms close to the Castle. The City of Vera was huge it took approximately 3 days to travel to cross by foot. There was no way they could get someone from the fields on the other side in time. The King quickly pulled out a silver-plated token and said a spell. Mort then appeared still in armor. "Mort we need to find someone that can bath a donkey and bring them here immediately, do you know where we can find someone? "
"Being part of the intelligence force of course your majesty, give me ten minutes and I shall have someone brought here post haste." Replied Mort. He was kind of cranky being summoned by the King to bring someone else but it was the task he had been given. Mort quickly left and ten minutes later he returned with a young peasant girl.

"King Anthon the 13th of his name this young lass Debby lives on her family farm and has experience taking care of donkeys. She should be the best person for the job given the time constraints."
"I must thank you Debby for agreeing to help with this. Tonight the kingdom is in dire need of your help! There is no easy way to say this but.. we summoned a hero with an ancient ritual it turns out the destined hero is a Donkey, we need you to bath the Hero Donkey Clive tonight before he retires. It is of utmost importance that Hero Clive looks his best tomorrow." Spoke the King to the wide-eyed peasant girl.
Debby, a young blonde-haired girl of 16 replied hesitantly "I...I... I will try your majesty is this donkey really a hero? I thought hero's were all great knights? Not plow pullers." King Anthon frowned as his forehead wrinkled as his brows furrowed, "Do not be misled Debby our Hero Clive is indeed a donkey but he is quite powerful! We will not tolerate any bad-mouthing of Clive. Frank here has made an oath that anyone that badmouths him will meet their end at his blade so please restrain yourself tonight and good luck." The King then walked away to speak with Clive leaving Debby with Frank.
Frank just glared at Debby. "I will be sure to refrain from speaking badly about the Hero sir...." Spoke Debby timidly. Frank just looked at her and pointed to the Hall and started that way with Debby following behind quite nervous about her fate.
"Hero Clive I hope you have enjoyed the feast tonight we have two very special treats left for tonight. First, we have prepared a luxurious bath for you with your own personal bath maiden, young Debby. She will take extra care to enhance your natural beauty. Next we have prepared a special room for you to enjoy the best view of our great city. Tonight we will have much to discuss at breakfast. I am extremely exhausted and wish to retire." Spoke the King hoping to rush off to bed and finally relax after this emotionally draining day.
"Frank tell the King I wish him well tonight, I look forward to getting some rest and seeing the city but I am not sure about this bath deal... I have never had one." Replied Clive. Frank was slightly surprised Clive had never had a bath but only slightly the smell was pretty bad not that anyone would complain cause he would then have to kill them. "Hero Clive wishes you a good night King Anthon. Young Debby will answer any questions you have I am sure." Replied Frank trying to push off Clive to Debby shamelessly forgetting he would have to translate everything anyway.

Frank, Clive, and Debby were all staring at the gigantic hot spring in front of them with complex magic circles all around to fill the area with mana to keep the temperature just right. "I have never seen such a big spring! This is going to feel amazing! Hurry Hero get in." Spoke Debby jumping into the water fully clothed.
Frank always being on guard pulled his sword out the sheath and sat in a wooden chair. The huge green sword was too big for him to sit in a chair normally so he held the handle in front of him and turned the blade thin ways so he could see the bath.
"Oh, this feels pretty nice Frank! Why did no one tell me water could be warm!" Clive excitedly yelled into Franks mind shaking water off of him causing mud to fling everywhere. Frank just looked at the filth happy he did not have to clean that up himself, it was even on the freaking ceiling 40 feet high up.
"Debby make sure you explain to Hero Clive what you are going to do so he is not surprised." Frank was sort of worried she'd spook Clive and then she would also explode in the pool. "Of course Sir." Replied Debby.
"I am going to brush your coat with this brush and use this soap it will bubble up and take all the dirt off."
"OOOOOOOOO YEEEEEESSSSSSSS FRAAAANNNNKKK THIIS FEEELS GREEEEAAAATT!!!!!!" Clive replied happily having his coat brushed was one of the best feelings in Clive's young life. "Frank make sure you bring a brush when we go fight demons! Ask Debby where she learned this skill"
"The hero likes being brushed Debby make sure to keep doing that. He also wants to know where you learned to brush donkeys." Frank would regret translating that.
Frank had been tortured on two occasions, had his arm chopped off 3 times, been hit with mind magic that made all his pain sensors go off non stop for 2 weeks but nothing in his life had ever been this awful. Frank still sitting in his wooden chair grasped his sword Handle twight and repeatidly smashed it into his head as Debby telling her life story in immense detail. Frank was hitting his head in sheer boredom and defiance at listening to the boring life story of the young farm girl. Debby told every minute detail of her life on the farm. She picked up the blue bucket and carried it to the red barn. She then got food and fed the cow. She would use the grass with the long leaves not short leaves. Sometimes they had spots, sometimes those spots had circles sometimes they had squaures. Then she got the white bucket to fill the water. It was so fucking mind-numbingly repetitive and boring!
On the other side, Clive was happily listening to as it reminded him of his old farm life as Debby finished Drying him off. "Frank tell her I hope her farm does well and thanks for the bathing that was pretty great I will have to take baths often!"
After sending Debby off Frank showed Clive to his room. "FRANK WHAT ARE ALL THOSE LIGHTS!" Yelled Clive as he looked over the city. "Those are all the homes throughout the city Hero Clive the City is quite large but it houses soo many different people. My job... our job is to protect these people from the demons." Frank spoke with a bit of pride.
"Stop with the Hero Clive this Hero Clive that. Just call me Clive! I don't want to be a hero its a lot of responsibility and I would rather live peacefully with snacks. I am quite tired so I would like to sleep now." Spoke Clive, it had truly been an exhausting day for him, traveled to another world, met a god, almost killed by not one but two guys who he then killed. He had never even killed a living thing besides plants. This weighed heavily in the back of his mind.
"As you wish Clive. I will retire to my room I hope you have a pleasant night I shall come by in the morning to wake you for breakfast."
"Cya Frank."
As Frank left he was met with the worst thing that had ever happened to him in all his years alive....

The Kings of Thendor - The Two Kings
To some, it would probably be obvious. To others – not so much. In the land of Thendor, where magic is mysterious, unmentioned, and sometimes even disbelieved; where kings, queens, and stewards rule, the ages-old kingdom of Alldel remains without its king. Heirs come and go and no one can explain why each one chooses to abdicate to the steward. And who are these heirs, anyway? Some say the line of kings is dead, while others whisper of magic. Some, though few they are, will tell you other kingdoms have interfered, keeping the line of kings from rising in the nation of Alldel. But why? Adric, son of Cassian, heir to the throne of Alldel has come of age and must answer the question, whether to assume the throne, or abdicate as his ancestors had done for centuries. Raised as a blacksmith by a family friend, Adric struggles with the decision to take up his place as King of Alldel, and to make matters worse, a neighboring kingdom has confirmed the rumors of the common folk. An impossibly old king with a centuries-old message arrives and changes Adric’s life in ways he could never have imagined. Adric must decide the future, and perhaps even the fate of the great kingdom of Alldel. Unprepared for this turn of events, he enlists the help of allied kingdoms and even the mystical nymphs of the Tulusbian forest. Some say his actions will start a war on the continent of Thendor. Ohers say he is resurrecting a long forgotten one from centuries ago. Abdicate, or become king? To some, it would probably be obvious. To others – not so much.
