Unlike most people, Damien had led a very unfortunate life. This all began 10 years ago at the age of 8 when he became an orphan with the loss of his mother. Strangely, the only memory he had of her was on her deathbed, when she gave him a necklace that she claimed would protect him from evil. Little did he know evil was closer than he thought.

It was the night of his 18th birthday, he had just moved into his new dorm having said his goodbyes to everyone in the orphanage... Only to realize that something was missing from around his neck. That necklace was the only memory he had left of his parents, to him it meant more than the entire world. “W-Where is it? Where's my necklace?!” he said in a panic at the same time a shadow closed up on him.

The shadow crept up and enveloped his left arm, progressively making its way up. “AHHHH!” he screamed. Needless to say, it was an excruciating experience. He dropped to the floor in the pangs of pain, only to find the necklace directly in front of him. At this point the shadow was crawling up his elbow. He quickly grabbed the necklace and wrapped it around his left bicep, almost cutting off the circulation in his left arm. As if in fear, the shadow retreated back to his forearm, stopping.

A voice spoke directly into his head “That accursed necklace!” the voice resounded in anger.

“What the hell are you?!” Damien shouted in fear, looking directly at his blackened left arm which had somehow managed to turn back into looking normal.

“I am a Shade.” the voice chuckled ominously in his mind, only managing to deepen his fears.

At that moment Damien knew: this was the night that would change his life forever.
