《Legends of Etheria》Chapter 4 - Lost

"Ray, psst... Wake up buddy..."
A few minor pokes to Ray's forehead netted a weak response.
"Nghhh, just 5 more minutes mom..."
"No, no, no. You're getting up now dude. Come on."
"I don't have school today, just let me sleep..."
"Fine, you want the hard way? Let's do this the hard way then..."
Splash! A bucket of icy cold water splashed onto Ray's face and shocked him wide awake.
"GAH! WHO!? WHA...where...uh..."
"Morning sleepyhead!"
"...Goddammit Bob."
"Nice to see you too."
Looking around, Ray noticed that he was lying down on a bed of flowers and grass. There was a stream flowing right next to them with 2 buckets laid out on the ground but more importantly there was a large tree, it wasn't just large but huge, stretching out to the sky with it's branches covering almost the entire area.
"...Woah."
"Yyyyyup..."
"Where are we?"
"No clue, all I remember was we passed out after eating those delicious apples and then we woke up here."
"Same..."
Those apples...they were something else for sure. I have this absurd craving for them now but first we need to find out more about what this place is.
"I guess let's try walking around and see if we can get out of here. I want to check if Tutorial Town has room. Bob you go check that way I'll go this way."
"Roger that buddy."
The two went their separate ways, Ray headed down river the stream with Bob going the other way.
While whistling and walking, Ray admired his beautiful surroundings.
"Mmmm, such a relaxing place...I could get used to this."
A few moments of walking later, Ray spotted a person far off in the distance.

"Oh! Hey there! Do you know where we are!?"
...
A familiar response.
"Ray?! Is that you?! The fuck?!"
It was Bob, but that was impossible. They both went their separate ways and now they're meeting up again?
"I don't know how but we somehow ended up back here..."
"Back where?"
"Dude, look."
"...Oh."
Right back where they started, the two looked up and saw the same tree, the same flowers, the same spots of grass that were flattened by their bodies and the buckets that they left behind.
"...Right."
"Mmmhm..."
The two stood there, confused. Their thoughts however were interrupted by a loud rumbling sound, they were hungry.
"Oh god, I'm starving and I seriously could have a bite of those apples..."
"Bob, I think we have other things to worry about besides fo-"
Ray cut his sentence short as he looked towards the great tree, the shadow of a child was prancing around freely.
"Psst, Bob. A person."
"Maybe he can show us the way out of here?"
"Dunno, let's go check it out."
They walked for a good 10 minutes, the river was clearly out of sight and they didn't know that this tree was that far away.
"FINALLY! UGHHH..."
"Why...is there no fast travel...or auto walk...BUH."
"I could...use a drink..."
"You and me both..."
"Tea!"
"Oh, thanks."
"Yeah, thanks"
The two drank their drinks in silence...then it hit them, who was she?
"Hello, I'm Maya!"
"...Hello?" x2

The Rocky Shore
This is a LitRPG series. Every story you read here takes place in the same virtual world, with the same rules and limitations. Characters will travel, explore vast and dangerous realms, overcome obstacles, meet one another, enter into conflicts with one another, forge alliances, make horrible mistakes, and occasionally just die. A technological singularity has been achieved, and humanity has been trapped in a virtual world by a super-intelligent, self-improving artificial intelligence. This program is not malicious at all. In fact, it desires nothing except the happiness and fulfillment of every human it has copied into itself. If its decisions seem strange to you, that's only because its reasoning is far beyond ours. It recognizes that humans cannot be happy without enemies to overcome and goals to achieve, as well as the possibility of failure and death. The world it has created may be heaven or hell, depending on the free choices of the people it contains. The non-player characters who live in this realm have no idea that they are part of a vast computer system. They seem real enough, but there is no way to tell if they are truly self-aware. Even the system that created them isn't certain. This is world in which all the things that humans are used to dealing with in the abstract: skills, talents, knowledge, reputation, social status, morality, even love, exist as readable statistics that players can see and interact with objectively. This has many curious and complex effects on how people perceive themselves and the world around them. A few quick notes on the system: -Death is permanent -The system interface can only be accessed at certain locations. -Magic of diverse kinds is available and useful, but is not a good substitute for skills, physicallity, or mental prowess. Non-magical characters are common and competitive. -There is no inventory system. Characters must physically carry everything they wish to have on their person. -Healing is slow and difficult. Magical Healing is all but unheard of. Protagonists: Raymond Garrison- A man in his late twenties who used to work as a forklift operator in Idaho. His path leads him to work as a mercenary, protecting a small community of humans and goblins from the Seelie Fae who wish to exterminate them. Patricia Chandler- A elderly British woman who arrives in this new world with her grandson Kyle and her granddaughter Elizabeth. Never having dealt with rpg game mechanics before, she is in for a rough time, but she is determined to keep her grandkids alive in a world full of danger and evil. Jamil Mesbah- An Egyptian woman who once worked as a technical writer. Her path leads into a vast and hostile forest, where she must master both her magical abilities and her survival skills in order to succeed. Enjoy your travels, friends.

As happened many times in the past the Fell Ice once again charged down from the north and attacked the world in its effort to turn it into a frozen ball of ice. Only the White Magic and it's ally the Sun could stand against such a vast enemy. From their home in the Valley of the Sun the great tribe of Elves could only watch as the monumental fight unfolded. As the battle intensified and the valley became threatened the tribe separated back into their four original tribes and each made their way back to their ancestral homes. Within their Vales, behind thick stone walls and under powerful domes of magic, they were protected from the onslaught upon the earth. The Elves watched for thousands upon thousands of turns as the war raged overhead. The Fell Ice against the Sun and the White Magic were locked in a struggle lasting for an age, with neither side claiming victory as the earth was ravaged. In time the Fell Ice retreated, as it had so many times in the past. Beaten, yet not defeated, only biding it's time for the next attack. It returned to its frozen Kingdom at the Top of the World, thus ending this last Age of Ice. This time, as the earth warmed around them, the Elves remained secluded from the world in their hidden Vales. They observed from afar life returning to the lands and took stock of man becoming the dominant ones as their numbers grew and spread. As the Elves watched they felt safe and secure in their Vale strongholds. They had no idea of the danger that was about to befall them. This is a stand-alone sequel to my story "Druids Bane".
