《Nephilim: Beyond Good and Evil》Chapter 7: Resentment

Being reconnected with her family after years spent apart has ignited a fire within Honoka. All of her previous emotions were piling up. They were mixed, on one hand she was able to see her aunt and cousin, but she had a job to terminate them to please her new family.
Even though her mind was made up she still felt hesitant to take their lives. It was too much to ask of someone. To murder their relatives for being different. She wasn't any different than they were.
Honoka took a deep breath as she glanced over at her comrade, Shou. After drifting off for a bit she realized that she also felt resentment towards them. She wasn't able to have a normal life. A life that she wished to have more than anything.
This caused a burning hatred for her family to generate. Her hand clenched tightly against her green colored staff which was decorated with a pink flower bulb at the top. Against the back of her hand was her throbbing vein that showed how angry she felt.
She didn't want to disappoint her friends or Abner. He had given her so much, a home, friends, a new life. She couldn't just allow her feelings to surface and cloud her judgement. Her eyes stared over at Keiko and Setsuna who remained motionless.
"Get ready, Honoka." Shou said.
"I've been ready for this moment." Honoka stated before she raised her staff to the heavens and slammed it harshly against the grass which caused it to tremor and split apart the very earth before her enchanted staff summoned thick green vines.
Setsuna remained as clam as ever. It would be rare if she showed emotion, she was simply a ghost without much feelings for others besides her adopted brother, Terios. Her dim gray eyes focused on the vines that were uprooted from the ground and stretching towards her general area.
Slowly she moved a hand to forge a purple portal which the vines went into. Another portal opened behind her, showing that the vines had missed their mark. Her portal closed, cutting through the vines easily and ceasing their movement enough for her to open a portal under her.
Her thin pale body descended down just in time to avoid a combination of vines that would have entangled her. Honoka kept her guard up, glancing around to examine her surroundings.

Setsuna was a slick kind of fighter. Her body gave her advantage to ignore pain and her ability was crafty. It left her enemies on the defensive while she was a master at both offense and defense.
Immediately a portal opened directly above Honoka which caused a bead of sweat to form along the side of her forehead. She had relaxed her body for a second and already Setsuna was preparing an attack.
Honoka gripped her staff and sent it flying above her before anything could appear from out of that mystical portal. Wherever it led it didn't matter. Honoka was a bit surprised to find out that it was just space and it had been a decoy.
A portal opened up behind her as she directed her attention to striking the portal above her. Setsuna's scythe was the first thing to extend from the portal, slicing through the back of Honoka's outfit and sending a swipe of blood onto the ground. Honoka clenched her teeth and leapt back into the air.
She landed a few feet away from her cousin, the wound on her back slowly beginning to repair itself. Regeneration was one hell of an ability to have along with improved physical capabilities. Still, that wouldn't be enough to defeat a foe such as the one gazing at her.
"Setsuna if anyone has the right to resent your family more than me it's you. I mean look at what your mother did to you."
Honoka decided she could gain an advantage over Setsuna if she picked at the one thing that she was self-conscious about; her appearance.
"Your mother screwed up your life. You were bullied endlessly in school because of her selfish choice to play god with your life. To revive you from the dead. Was it really worth all of the suffering?"
"…" Setsuna was stunned by her words but kept her emotionless expression. She didn't show any sign of change but Honoka knew it was working.
"You can't enjoy the simplest taste of food, something that gives us just a bit of pleasure. You can't bear children and that's even if you could find someone to love what you are. You'll never be able to establish a connection with people because in order to ensure your survival you have to devour souls from other humans. Like some sort of Vampire."

Setsuna's expression remained the same. Her hands kept a firm grip on her scythe as she continued to listen to her cousin's harmful words. Eventually, her gaze turned cold and now more then ever she wanted to kill her already.
Without wasting her energy on a response she charged forward while Honoka launched a single vine that swiped against the wind to try and knock the pale looking figure off her guard. When it approached close enough, Setsuna leapt into the air to avoid the violent attack.
However, she wouldn't be safe soaring through the skies. Another set of vines were flying off towards her, eager to entangle her where she leapt. Instead of sticking on the defense she switched to offense and swung her scythe multiple times, projecting a stream of purple colored energy that was so sharp it sliced through the space itself.
The attack easily ripped through the vines leaving nothing but bits and pieces of it much to Honoka's dismay, she had an attachment to all things that had to do with plants and the sort. She nimbly avoided the slash projection which collided with the ground, carving a scar into it in the process.
Honoka was startled by the power of the attack, she moved over to look down at how deep the cut was and could have sworn she saw the depths of hell. A large gulp could be heard as sweat seeped from her pores.
"Don't compare me with your pathetic reason for being a traitor. You just couldn't handle being apart of this family so you left like a coward." Setsuna said bluntly.
Hearing those words come out from her mouth angered her deeply. She clenched her staff so hard it was hard to believe there wasn't any signs of cracks. "Call me what you want. I know you feel miserable because of your mother's actions. Admit it!"
"I love my mother. Just like how your mother loves you. Yet, you still abandoned her. It just shows how self centered you are. You enjoy being a victim don't you?"
"You think you have the right to talk down to your elders like that!? Watch your tone!" She shouted and sent her staff crashing down onto the ground, sending a wave of thorny vines which danced and twisted through the air.
Setsuna remained still, when they all bundled up to crash down on her she leapt backwards, gathering space while opening two portals by her cousin's feet. They were very small compared to the others and left just enough room for a skeleton's hand to reach out from both openings, latching roughly onto Honoka's feet.
"What the hell is this!? It's so gross!" She was completely caught off guard. Her legs were bound tight and she didn't have the strength to break free.
Setsuna was preparing her final attack, swinging her scythe crashing through the air as she fired a piercing slice which precisely sliced through everything in its way with infinite sharpness. Honoka was desperate to avoid the attack and summoned a large area of vines to protect herself.
Although thick in texture, Setsuna's attack broke through any form of defense. It easily dissected through the vines and through Honoka's body, but it didn't stop there, behind her the body of trees were also carved through and remained still for awhile before everything fell.
Honoka's large gash along her body released a gush of blood which gave off a red mist effect. Parts of her dress was stained with her crimson liquids and her eyes looked empty. She was disgusted with her inability to complete her mission.
The wound didn't give her pain, yet being defeated was still hard on her. With all of her blood pouring out onto the floor she finally lost her strength to stand. The skeleton hands that bounded her were no more. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head before she collapsed onto the floor.
Setsuna had won. She sent her weapon back into her own little pocket dimension and turned to look at her mother who was busy fighting with the man known as Shou. In the back of her mind she couldn't stop thinking about what Honoka had said. She was right about a lot of things. She didn't have any friends and spent most of her time alone. She had to drop out of school from constant bullying and was abnormal to everyone around.

Rebirth
Rebirth, the process of being reborn. Why does it happen and who really qualifies. We will seek to look into the these questions by following the life of Richard as we experiences this process first hand. We will follow his life and his fight against the evil blue boxes and what comes with all of them. ------------------------------- Update 04-24-18 Just ran a spelling and grammar check on the existing chapters and corrected a lot of little issues. ------------------------------- Just so you know, do not expect detailed sex scenes, or a lot of gore and such. Profanity is probably a given, I added the tag today....I mean you've seen how the Blue Box God talks....I'm shocked our MC has keep his cool so far. Also just FYI, I've got the entire per chapter outline complete for what will end up being book 1. That being said I've discovered over the years that a good outline lasts until you begin to wrote the chapter out. What that means is that even with a good outline because I tend to rethink thing out 4 or 5 times while I write them that it can hold up a chapter from being released. I'd rather hold up a story to make it flow better than rush something out. So while you might see at times a very aggressive release rate, at times you might wonder what happened to me because I've stopped posting. The reason being that after I wrote the chapter I decided it either sucked, didn't flow right or I just decided the direction things were headed no longer seemed right. So I'll stop, review and decide if I need to rewite all of the outlines to changes things up and then rewrite the chapter, or possibly go back and make changes to older chapters if needed. By the way, if I ever decide something needs to change, I will let you know which chapters changed and I'll give you a quick outline of the changes so you can skip the reread if you want. Yes a lot of this story will be told from the third person prespective, though we will listen to Richard tell his story. Expect a lof of behind the scene components. I've never published here before so expect it to take me a try or 2 to get an understanding of the formatting and such. Also I do not post a schedule. Sorry but real life always comes first but I will try and get things steddy.
