《Questline: Our Second Chance In Another World》Chapter 1: Character Creation

It was late June in Los Angeles, California, and an unbearable dry heat lingered in the streets of LA. It was only 7:00 AM and the temperature had already reached into the 90's, and people were already filling up the sidewalks.
Brandon Walker is 22 years old. He had long black hair that went down to his shoulders, fair skins, brown eyes, but the most notable thing about him was that he was in a wheelchair.
Brandon was unable to walk, and has been for his entire life. It was often a source of bullying for him during school, and he continued to face minor hardships through college as well. However, that never got him down. He just graduated college with a degree, and he was ready to take on the world!
Right now, Brandon was sitting in a little coffee shop on a busy street in LA staring out the window just watching traffic as he waits for his friend. Sitting across from him is a man in a brown suit whose been fidgeting for the past 5 minutes.
He has kept his head down, and is wearing a brown bowler hat making it hard to see his face. He turns his head almost every ten seconds to look out the window almost like he's looking for something, and then puts his hand on the briefcase he set down next to his seat.
Brandon had a sinking feeling that this man was panicking, but that's all he can really tell. It wasn't until it was too late that Brandon Walker would realize why that man was so worried.
The last thing Brandon remembered hearing was the sound of a motorcycle, then he felt a hot piercing pain throughout the entire right side of his body. After that, it was cold, and Brandon completely blacked out. He was no longer able to feel a thing.
“What the hell just happened!” Brandon said in a mild state of confusion. “The pain I felt just a moment ago, what was that?”

Brandon began slowly opening up his eyes, and around him all he could see was a vast blue expanse.
“Ahh, holy crap what is this? Where am I?” Brandon shouted while shifting his head rapidly in every direction. He couldn't see the ground, or feel anything beneath his feet. He was no longer in his wheelchair, but it seemed like he was standing on something.
“System starting, information loading, subject identified. Brandon Walker.”
At that moment Brandon heard a synthetic female voice coming from somewhere, but he couldn't see anyone.
“What is going on?” Brandon said out loud, but there was no response.
The synthetic voice spoke again. Race: human, capabilities: average. Assigning character stats. Level one all stats set to 10.
“What do you mean stats? And race?” Brandon inquired, but there was still no response.
“Error detected. Subject incapable of ambulatory movement. Correcting...” The synthetic voice stopped for a few moments and Brandon stood there listening in silence. “Initial analysis complete, character creation accepted.”
“Character creation?” Brandon thought. “Is this supposed to be some kind of video game?”
“Congratulations! Admin has awarded you with a special starting bonus. Opening special chest.” Right before his eyes Brandon could see what looked like a wooden loot chest from a video game, and just like one it opened up and had a glowing light. A picture came into view of what looked like a woman in a red dress with blond hair in a pony tail, and blue eyes, but the strange thing was she had these thin, almost translucent wings coming out of her back.
“Special bonus acquired: guide pixie!”
“Guide pixie? What is that?” But before Brandon could even get a response, he saw a bright white light, and everything began to fade.
The bright light sudden began to fade, and Brandon felt a little dizzy and disoriented. His vision was pretty blurry at first, but slowely his eyes began to adjust. The first thing he saw were trees, and when he began turning his head he saw even more along with a faint mist. He also spotted what looked like other people a short distance away from him.

In front of him, and to the right, probably around ten feet away he saw a boy with short blond hair. It looked like he had a buzz cut, but it had grown out just a little. He looked to be around 5'10, but he couldn't see he could only see the back of his head so it was hard to make out any other features. On the other side of Brandon looked like there was another boy around 5'7 with long black hair that went past his shoulders who also had his back towards Brandon.
Brandon couldn't turn his head, so he couldn't see behind himself. In fact, he couldn't move at all when all of a sudden he heard a man's voice.
“Welcome everyone to the world of.... mmmhh Fantasia!”
Brandon tried turning his head to see where the voice was coming from, but he still couldn't move. The voice was loud, and it sounded like it was coming from ever direction.
“Congratulations, you all now have the opportunity to live in a world that you could only read about in novels, or watch on TV! This is a world full of magic and monsters, and you will be spending the rest of your lives hear.”
Brandon's eyes widened for a second. He started thinking to himself, "The rest of my life, what about my life in LA?"
Brandon then heard the voice speak again. “I know you must all be shocked, and wondering what happened to your old lives back on your world, but I'm afraid to say... Everyone here unfortunately died back in their world.”
Brandon continued to stand there in silence. He was having trouble processing all this information. The last thing he remembered was a stinging pain down his entire right side, everything went black and he had this terribly cold feeling, then he was in this strange blue void listening to a female synthetic voice talking about character creation.
“I'm sure you're all confused right now, and are wondering what's going in. Like I said, you are in a new world, a fantasy world that is full of magic. Some of you might have an easier time understanding this world than others. It is like a video game, and all of you are now characters, or even players in the game. You all have stats, abilities, and levels, and a system that works exactly like a video game.”
All of a sudden what looked like a status screen appeared in Brandon's view. It had a picture of Brandon with all wearing brown pants, and a off-white colored shirt that made him look like a villager in a fantasy game.
He immediately shifted his eyes over to the right side if the screen where he saw “LV: 1". Below that there was an empty box that said Abilities:, and another box below that that said “Equipment:". In the equipment box there was a list of items;
Common clothes
Dagger
Rations: 3
There was also a number at the bottom left that said *Gold:10*.
On the left side there was his name above his portrait, and a box that said, Race: Human, between his name and the portrait. Below the portrait he saw the word *Stats", and below that there were some number next to a few words.
Strength: 10
Constitution: 10
Agility: 10
Stamina: 10
Magic: 10
HP: 50
MP: 50
Available Stat Points: 2
He also noticed on the top of the screen there were several tabs that said profile, inventory, abilities/magic, and quests.
Brandon thought to himself. "So, this really is just like a video game".

Esper: Search for Power
Dan Martin has a good life. He's respected at his job, and enjoys his work. He is close to his family, and they love and support him. With engaging hobbies, relative financial security, and freedom to learn and pursue his interests, Dan is happy. So it's not particularly welcome when he's selected by an inscrutable and seemingly omnipotent System as a test subject. The downsides: All of this is insane and by any rational analysis he's gonna die. The upsides: Super powers, a cure for a physical disability that had limited him, and above all, so very much to learn (for as long as he can avoid dying). I am very much a beginner as an author, and any feedback or suggestions on how to improve would be deeply appreciated. Chapter releases should be daily for the first two weeks and sporadic after that as I use up my buffer. Please consider this work as a rough draft subject to revision and/or retcon. It is not only my first attempt at original story telling, but at world building and RPG style system design. The latter has been very difficult, even drawing on the brilliant work of many RPGs and LitRPGs for inspiration. Thank you to any willing to give a new story and a new writer a try!
