************Emily POV************

Emily was lying in bed with a small smile on her face. She had helped clean the kitchen after having caused the mess in the first place, and even when Nicolette had scolded her for doing what she did there were no regrets in her mind.

A door closed in the other room, signaling to Emily that James had returned home. Temptation bubbled up in her chest to go and greet him, but the low growl her brother gave out was enough to keep her in bed. He was obviously in a bad mood and judgement told Emily not to do anything stupid.

“James, what happened?” Nicolette’s voice was faint, the worry in it enough to tell Emily that the date was obviously a failure.

“Terra called Emily a brat for having been outside at night, so I left her at the table,” James hissed after a moment of silence. Emily’s eyes grew wide in hurt at the memory of her brother running out to save her, but she continued listening to the conversation.

“You shouldn’t let her get to you, she does seem to have an interest so she might warm up to the thought of-”

“The thought of what, Nicolette? Do you honestly think I would go for someone who would say such things about my own sister?!”

“I never said that, I’m only saying that she might have been worried about your wellbeing so she spoke out of context,” Nicolette said firmly. A huff came from what sounded like James.

Emily stared at her bedroom door as she wondered whether or not it would be a good idea to crawl over and press her ear against the frame so she could hear the conversation better. When her brother’s voice started to rise, she decided to stay where she was.

“Damn it, I can care less about her being concerned with what I do on my own time! I can take care of myself,” James cried. Silence filled the room for about a minute until Nicolette replied in a softer voice.

“Do you care about me being concerned?” Again, silence. Emily strained to hear what was going on, and when no sound came she slowly slipped off her bed and crawled over to the door. A minute later her brother replied in a tone almost too soft for Emily to hear, but it was enough.

“I care about you in the first place, I would hope you would be concerned about me, Nicolette.” A small hiccup came from the other room, and the young girl realized that one of them were crying.

“J-James, do you love me? I mean really l-love me?” Nicolette hiccuped. So it was her who was crying, which didn’t really surprise Emily since she had never seen her own brother cry. But the question that she had asked was enough to completely shock her out of her own thoughts. Emily reached up and slowly turned the doorknob and cracked the door open, peeking out to see what was happening.

What she saw made her stick out her tongue in mock disgust. The five year old girl had opened it the same moment her brother had wrapped his arms around Nicolette and kissed her. It took everything inside Emily not to burst out laughing at the look of surprise on Nicolette’s face as James held her against him. When Nicolette relaxed and closed her eyes and kissed him back, Emily couldn’t help but giggle.

Sadly, both of them heard it.

“E-Emily! What are you doing up?” Nicolette gasped as she pulled away from the kiss, her face completely red. James himself kept his arms around her waist but his own color had turned the color of the tomatoes that were lying on the kitchen counter in the room over.

“Does this mean you two are married? I want you two to be married!” Emily giggled, opening the door fully and stepping out into the living room.

“Not exactly, at least not at the moment. That won’t come for a few years,” her brother said with a grin. Nicolette’s face grew even more red at his words.

“Well, I wanna be the flower girl when you do. And I wanna help pick out cake like I did for Kelli’s wedding,” Emily said as she thought back to a year ago when the guild master’s wife had allowed her to go along for the cake taste testing in the guild’s main kitchen area. The guild master was known for his harshness when it came to rules and punishments, but to everyone’s surprise that year he had proposed to a woman who had been notorious for breaking said rules.

James kissed Nicolette on the forehead before releasing her to walk towards his sister. Emily automatically raised her arms to be picked up, which her brother did with a grin. He carried her back to her bed and laid her down before pulling the covers back on to her and tucking in the small child.

“Sleep and we will talk about that tomorrow. Right now, Nicolette and i have some things to discuss. No more getting out of bed!” He firmly said. Emily nodded obediently and grabbed her favorite stuffed animal from the side of her bed and curled up more under the covers.

When James left the room, Emily let her eyes close and mind wander. There was no doubt in her mind that her brother would someday marry Nicolette, and as Emily fell asleep the only thing on her mind was cake and flowers.

I hope the POV thing helps a bit! I decided not to put it in the title since I like how I add the title names instead, so I put the POV at the beginning of each chapter, EXCEPT for the first two chapters since they already have the character names in the title. Also, if it is STILL confusing, only thing you should know is this is leading up to what is gonna happen. So let the confusion sit inside until I finish typing the rest of the next chapter, which should be done today if not tomorrow, so expect double post today or tomorrow! Maybe even three posts I don't know, depends if I have time, but we shall see!
