《I.D. Tech》Chapter 20: Pull The Trigger
Advertisement
It’s Tuesday, January 28th, 8pm.
A man exits the black market in eastern Germany. He’s wearing an expensive jacket, and gloves. The man turns down a street.
Thomas walks up to him.
“Hey man can you give me directions?”
“Sure,” says the man.
“I’m trying to get to a motel for the night. Do you know where I can go?”
Little did the man know, James was walking behind him.
James grabs a hold of him.
“Do it Thomas!”
Thomas injects the man with the I.D. Tech.
“We need your cooperation. My friend just injected you with a liquid that controls your thoughts, your movements… everything about you. Don’t bother screaming out for help.”
“What in the absolute hell!”
“Tomorrow we need you to kill everyone in that black market you were working in… failure to do this and we will kill you.”
“Hahaha so you expect me to believe this?”
“If you don’t believe us… in a couple of hours you will start hearing thoughts… these thoughts are coming from my voice.”
“Listen I don’t know what prank you guys are pulling… but I don’t work in any black market. I’m getting out of here.”
“Suit yourself.”
A couple of hours later James turns on his laptop, and puts on his headset.
“Listen… I am the same guy that grabbed you a couple hours ago. You are going to listen to what I tell you.”
“What the hell is this?”
“Well I guess I should tell you that I’m an ex-police officer. I stole a relatively dangerous piece of equipment from where I worked... Do you know what it’s like being stung by hornets?”
James turns on the hornet setting of the software. He does this for a minute straight.

The man is screaming in agony.
“Do you believe me now?” says James.
“What the hell is it you want?”
“I want you to kill everyone in that black market you are working in. Failure to do this and we will kill you.”
“I don’t work at a black market.”
“Suit yourself.”
James starts unleashing spider sensations, and creepy crawly sensations on the man’s skin for half an hour until the man has had enough.
“Okay okay pleeease stop. I’ll do anything!”
“That’s what I thought… Anyways do you have guns in the black market?”
“Yes we have a lot of them.”
“Pick any one of them and just open fire on everyone in there.”
“I’ll try.”
“We want you to do more than try. You will do what I tell you or you die.”
James just turns off the software and calls it a night.
The next day James turns on the ocular vision function of the software. The man is headed to the black market.
He walks in the doorway and then straight to where they hold the guns. He grabs a semi automatic and starts gunning down one person at a time until it’s just him.
“Good,” says James. “Anyway take a picture of the bodies and send it to my email.”
The man pulls out his phone and takes pictures. He then emails it to James’ new email.
James then turns on the most destructive function of the software. The “Total Control” function enables the user to control a person’s body movements.
“Raise the gun to your head,” says James.
The man raises the gun to his head.
“Pull the trigger.”
And in that instant the man drops to the floor in a pool of blood. A notification pops up on James’ screen that says “Connection interrupted”.

“Well that’s taken care of. Now we just need to show that man the pictures.”
An hour later James, Michael, and Thomas arrive at the first black market they were at.
James knocks on the door.
The same man with the adenoidal voice says, “It’s you. Did you take care of the issue?”
“Here’s pictures for proof.”
“Good. You guys can come in. I’ll take off your electronic tag. So how much do you want for the painting?”
“850 thousand euros.”
“We don’t give you the full appraisal price. We will offer you half of that so 425 thousand euros is the best offer.”
“It’s the same painting that was stolen in Montreal.”
“Wait, so you're the mastermind that stole that Van Gogh painting? That’s incredible!”
“So it’s at least worth more because of the news about the heist.”
“I agree, Okay I’ll give you 600 thousand euros. That’s my final offer.”
“Deal.”
The man walks to the back and pulls out a bag filled with cash. He starts counting the bundles and gives James the exact amount.
“Thanks for the business,” the man says.
A couple of hours later the men are at their hotel.
"So what are we going to do with the money?" Thomas says.
"We'll use it as emergency cash. We still have enough to book hotels and such."
"Can I have some of the money?" Michael says. "Just enough to buy things at the convenience stores."
"Sure why the hell not." James hands Michael a bundle of cash.
"Man I haven't held a bundle like this in years."
"So anyways let's talk about the Mona Lisa. That painting is being kept behind bullet proof glass.”

Lone: The Wanderer [Dropped Version (includes original draft of the rewrite's first volume)]
Nine-to-five. The daily grind. Life. Painful years of school. Working as a slave for some undeserving corporate big-wig. The monotonous life of unemployment. We all experience this in one way or another, and we can all conclude one thing: it's dull. Such a fact rings true even for the fabled Lone Immortus, a powerful nine-tailed Golden Foxkin. However, what would you do if your monotony was suddenly ground to a halt and you were thrown out of your comfort zone along with a young girl forgotten by time? Perhaps you might have done things differently, been more organised, immediately died, gained control of the world in a matter of days, but this is Lone's tale, not yours. Watching two insecure people struggle to survive and find their place in an unfamiliar land just might be enjoyable to witness. Who knows? One thing's for certain: it won't be an easy path for them to tread, and what could possibly be more entertaining than watching people endure hardships and grow? I know of at least eight gods that would answer with, 'Absolutely nothing.' I wonder, after seeing this journey from start to finish, how would you answer? [Goal of 2 chapters per week, the only exceptions being announced breaks or emergencies] A/N: This story is in the middle of a rewrite, so please forgive any noticeable plot holes and wonky chapter numbers. I am working on it every day, so understanding would be greatly appreciated. The new cover art is a courtesy of the very kind and talented ssddx. This novel is a participant in The Writer's Pledge

The Villain's Double Life
“The Villain’s Double Life as the Hero’s Mentor," “Demon Nobles Want to Live Too: A Hero-Raising Simulator for the Transmigrated Villain," “Just Because I’m a Villain Doesn’t Mean I Want the World to End!” Cyrus Calvide was the second son of an aristocratic lord; haughty, vain and power-hungry. One day, when his ancestral inheritance manifested, he discovered he was able to steal other’s powers and abilities using demonic magic. Taking this as a sign that he was destined to rule over others and become the new king of this land, he poisoned his father, killed his elder brother, and embarked on the path to greatness, taking advantage of a demonic invasion to consolidate power and harvest the abilities of others in a cruel and bloody fashion. Until he was summarily defeated by the Hero as a mid-game boss battle and executed for his crimes, of course. When a dedicated fan of the RPG “Next to Eden” awakened in the body of the cruelest future Count, four years before the beginning of the game, he pledged to live humbly. He would let his brother lead and support the Hero from the shadows to ensure the demon invasion would be defeated and he could enjoy life in peace. Rather, he would have, if he hadn’t gotten the Hero’s mentor killed in a freak monster attack before the Hero’s training could even begin. How was he supposed to live a life of peace and luxury if the Hero couldn’t stop the end of the world!? Donning a mask, Cyrus took up mentoring the Hero himself; how hard could it possibly be? . . . Four years later, the kind jack-of-all-trades hero Leon had become a twisted powerhouse: alienating his party members, clearing enemy encounters in a single magical blast, and coldly ignoring the affections of the girl whose love would have allowed him to clear the final boss. He seemed to have plastered himself to his Master’s side, instead. Cyrus bit back his despair while the hero reached out to grasp his hand. “Please stop ignoring the saint, Leon; you can't beat the Demon King by grinding stats! You need the power of love, remember?” “Don’t worry, Master,” Leon smiled as he traced the lines of Cyrus’s palm gently, almost reverently. “I have all the love I need.” VDL is two parts plot and worldbuilding, one part slow-build gay romance, starring a man far too proud to admit he's in over his head and the hero who loves him. Should be updating weekly.
