《The Blood Mage》3 - Bloody Battle

Let's see, counting my years of experience, my centuries worth of training in the abyss, my toned body, my pain endurance, I would say I have about sixty-five percent to defeat the beast.
Not
For god's sake, the beast is double my height, 166 cm, and not to mention he's lived his whole life hunting. If I had to guess, there's a one out of fifteen chances I would survive. Win? One out of one hundred. Yea, its low
He jumped at me while I was thinking useless things, I barely dodged. He then turns at me 180 degrees and swiped a fast one with his paws. I barely dodged that one too. Let's see, the only thing I could take advantage of is his size, to him, I look like the squirrel he ate, but to me, he looks like a giant furry beast hungry for nourishments.
I ran to his back, and he turns with me, great. And we spin and spin. I'm getting tired already after the third spin. I dashed to his back and grappled his bushy back. He turns and spins to catch me, meanwhile I climbed upwards, near his shoulders. Ah, how blissful his back is, fluffy and warm, I could snuggle here forever, but the situation calls otherwise.
He tries to reach me using his arms, but the arms aren't flexible enough. I then bite his back, while my hands dig nails inside his skin. I don't know if this will do damage, but the injuries bleed, so that's a start. I feel like I'm playing Shadows of Colossus here. I'm guessing a spurt of blood will come out soon
And it did, some of it got sprayed on my face. Gross. The beast is confused, he thinks I ran away, the bleeding on his back is probably unnoticeable, at most, it would be like a mosquito's bite.

The blood accidentally entered my mouth, and it tasted good. No, no, no. Blood shouldn't tasted good, in fact, I shouldn't even drink blood. But the idea sounds..... Enticing.
Ah who cares!
I slurped on his blood. Oh god, its delicious! Let me rephrase that. Its friggin good. My nails are prying his injuries open for me. And more red liquid spurts
And I drink, drink and drink. If the wounds dry of blood, I open up a new one.
While I feast on his blood, the beast is trying to scratch his back, but proved futile. If one of his claws get near, I scotch away. And continue drinking.
After about thirty minutes, his back is stained with crimson, riddled with flesh openings. The beast looks sleepy and tired. I feel full now, so I'll stop. Thanks for the meal
He slumped like a tree got chopped down. I could faintly hear someone says "Timber~"
I hopped down from his body, and inspect him closer. He has a large lush golden mane, a lion's face, the buffed body, and two hind legs. His whole body is covered with yellow fur. A typical lion with a Human body.
Yosh~ first battle was easy. Well a bit too easy. But now what to do with him?
Kill him you say? My heart can't withstand the burden of taking a life, even if the life isnt sentient. What, you thought I was a heartless hero beating those bullies. Yeah, I beat them so that every inch of their body would hurt, but never too far so that they would be crippled or died. I have a soft heart that hardens on baddies, neat isn't it?
I'm gonna take him as a pet, I would love to sleep with him as a pillow
Yeah, maybe my mind broke a bit.

Steps of the Immortal Tree
Evan stood on a hill, staring calmly at the gate of his former clan. A crowd waited behind him, some eyeing the clan in an unresigned manner, others looking at their spiritual support. Some of the young children shivered at the gnawing cold. Wind howled in his ears, seemingly deploring his fate. A silvery cloud drifted over the mountains surrounding the compound. The roar of a river could be heard from underneath its frozen surface. He had reincarnated many years ago. Hailed as a prodigy from his youngest age, Evan had seemingly tread on a path to invincibility. He had gotten married with his childhood sweetheart and had cultivated with a group of friends, forming a considerable power of his own. Yet now, here he was, devoid of any path to move forward, with his energy locus destroyed. His wife was dead and his branch had been kicked out of the clan. He looked at his progeny that had been entrusted to him. The baby seemed content in his father’s strong arms, too young to understand anything but the warmth of the father’s beating heart. Signaling to the people behind him, he turned around and the procession gradually disappeared in the distance, as the sun gradually set and the stars acted as a guide. --- Author-san here.
