Checking back at my situation, I'm wearing the same clothes as when I died, a black long sleeved jacket, a white undershirt, and deep blue jeans. And they're all wet. Perhaps I was instantly teleported here. Then what about that long, long time in the abyss? I get the feeling Im never getting the answer, so lets just ignore it. Back to the matter at hand!
Now to see if this is Earth.The trees look normal, I think they're oaks, or something like that. The grass beneath me looks the same as back on Earth, ample and lush. The sun is shining its bright light at me. So far so good. Now for some fauna
Just as I thought that, a sudden rustling from a nearby bush came. I lower my stance just to keep me from being instantly tackled to the ground. What to do, what to do, maybe some vocal would help
"Mind coming out?"
Though I don't think its friendly, but maybe, just maybe, there's a slight chance it might want to share it's home and food with me. Who knows, maybe people and animals here are friendly
The bushing gets more frequent, I can feel it's presence almost coming out. And the thing comes out is an animal that looks like a squirrel, but I can only see it's head. Is it shy? Or cautious?
"I won't hurt ya little fella"
Im trying to calm it, but the squirrel's head retracts back. It seems it ran away. Oh well, at least the critters here are small.
Hmm? I hear more rustling from the bush, maybe the squirrel just went back to it's home and got me food to welcome my stay. Maybe.
I don't like the rustling now, I heard a tiny screech from it. I have a bad feeling about this.
I knew it.
A giant, muscular beast with it's mouth smeared with blood comes out. It looks like a male lion standing up with his two hind legs. Ah, his predator eyes caught me.

I should be clear that while this is very much LitRPG, it's story led and I have tried to make it feel believable. So, for example, the first blue box doesn't appear until chapter 6. I hope that the payoff is worth it. Compared to some LitRPGs you may find the pace rather gentle at times. There will be some periods where it feels like Niall is eking out every level and others when, for good reasons, he makes a significant leap. My goal though is to give you a satisfying story, so that dictates when and how Niall's stats and skills change. I can reassure you that I fully intend for Niall to become immensely powerful, but I want you to feel like he has earned every level in a realistic way.

Lyam Aldren, killer for hire, was just going about his business when he suddenly received a notification from something called the System. Apparently, the entirety of Earth, its denizens and its matter were transported into the world of the System, planted in 'patches' all throughout the infinite world. The world of the Patchwork System is one of challenges, where life is cheap, power is king, and Classes and levels are a thing. In a brutal world, there is perhaps room for a killer with bloodstained hands to find his own way, free of his past. However, his Title and his inherent nature plague him, his fragmented personality laid bare to those with the eyes to see, and if he doesn't become powerful enough to defeat or escape those who would use or destroy him, he will quickly be devoured by the merciless world created by the System. Compared to my previous work, this is a more 'classic' litrpg setup, with clear (if somewhat complex) progression through levels and skill gains, with a 'system apocalypse' setup. Unlike most system apocalypse story protagonists, Lyam is neither a leader nor is he particularly interested in saving his fellow Earthlings. This is a story of a man who is both endangered and set free by the destruction of his old world, as he finds both power, new discoveries, and adventure in a place where his past matters not at all and power is the only language most speak. Later in the story, there will be harem elements, but the first volume is dedicated to Lyam's first months in the System. For those who are more interested in the Heirs of the Hooded King, I am putting it on hiatus as I rework the setting and future story developments a bit.
