《Living Armor》Chapter 9: New LIfe

It has been a couple of days since Maria first brought me back to her place. We haven't gone back to the Tower yet because she wanted to help me get used to life here as both someone who was reborn into a monster and as her familiar. Maria isn't really wealthy but she said she had enough gold for us to take a break for a couple of days. We have been going out exploring the city, though there has been somewhat of an uproar about us having the Gold contract. Maria said she wouldn't be surprised if some of the more famous guilds would contact us purely for our potential. Contrary to what I thought she didn't seem very excited about that.
"I thought you might be more excited about being a part of more famous guilds. You would have more options for making money and might be able to join strong parties to climb higher in the tower."
Maria just looked down and sighed.
"I know I should be excited Kai. It is a big opportunity, but I have been betrayed before by my last party."
Well, I can understand her fears of joining other parties after being betrayed.
"How about this. We join a guild but don't join any other parties for the time being. What other benefits are there besides having access to other party members when joining a guild."
"Well, I don't know everything but you gain access to information about monsters on higher levels of the towers. There are a lot of higher-paying quests you can only have access to by being part of the guild especially ones dealing with monsters out in the world that have escaped from the tower. I also heard there are a lot of decent unique items you can have access to by going higher up in the guilds especially the more famous ones. Also, they also have information about other towers in case you want to go to something different. They also pay their higher tier guild members monthly."

Hmm, honestly there are a lot of benefits so I hope I can convince her to join.
"Maria, I really think if we are approached by famous guilds we should join one."
*sigh* "Okay Kai, but only on the condition that we won't have other party members at least for a while."
"Deal."
*Knock, knock.*
I smirked when I heard the knock at the door.
"Hmm, I wonder if that's one of the guilds looking for us."
"Let's go find out." Maria said as we got up to check the door.
we open the door to find a massive figure looming outside the door. He has to be near 6 foot. He has short black hair and a scar over his left eye. He also is wearing white heavy knight armor with a dragon sigil on the chest place and a massive greatsword on his back.
"Greetings, I have heard there was someone with a Gold Contract soul knight familiar and it seems that is indeed the case. I am the guild master of the Dragon Cry guild. I am here to see if you would be interested to join my guild... ah.. where are my manners. I am Karth what is your name."
After waiting a couple of seconds to hear maria introduce herself I turn to notice she has a blank stare. I subtly elbow her to get her to focus.
"Ahem.. sorry I didn't expect a guild master of one of the top guilds to personally come here. I would offer you to come in but I am not sure I have enough room for someone of your stature. My name is Maria by the way."
Pfft, I can just imagine him trying to sit in one of her chairs for it to only collapse.

"That's okay. This won't take long anyways. Frankly, I like to keep things short and direct anyways. I will offer you guys 500 a month. I will quickly explain the tiers of members of the guild. There are bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond. Bronze being the lowest and diamond being the highest. I offer you to start at the gold tier and a normal gold tier doesn't make any monthly wages as we don't normally start that until they get to platinum but since the Gold contract is believed to have the highest potential I believe it is a good investment. What do you say?"
500 gold!! As Maria explained to me an average tower runner will only make a hundred a month from dungeons and quests. She said she normally would be lucky to make fifty a month.
"It sounds like a good deal Karth, and honestly it would be hard to pass up. My only condition is my only party is me and my familiar. At least for a while."
Karth seemed to be in deep thought after Maria's condition.
"Hmm, I suppose we can do that, but if you are unable to make it platinum in 3 months I would like for you to form an actual party. To join platinum you need to have reached floor 20. Will that work?"
"Yes, that will work thank you."
"haha, good, good. I hope to see you in Yukanth when you have reached floor 20. Here is your sigil. Good day."
After this tree of a man bellows out a hardy laugh he handed Maria her badge and left.
"Straightforward. I appreciate that." I said honestly
"Yeah, it's honestly easier to deal with those types. I can't believe the guild came 500 miles from Yukanth just to get us to join."
"Huh?? 500 miles? Also what is Yukanth?"
"Yukanth is a city with a population of 100,000 and where the main guild location is of Dragon Cry. Also they have a great Tower which is a harder Tower dungeon with stronger monsters but more rewards."
"Wouldn't it be hard to be in a Tower of a large city with a bunch of people always around in the dungeons. I feel like it would be hard to level up or get any drops."
"See that's something unique with Towers. when someone enters a floor for the first time it is like a randomly generated floor and for each person that isn't in a party, it is a different generated floor. For us to even meet in the first place was extremely lucky. It is likely multiple different floors that you could run across each floor."
"That is actually really cool. I wonder how these Towers even function the way they do."
"Nobody really knows but it works. Anyways it seems that we will be making more money from now on. Starting tomorrow we should get back to climbing the floors in the Tower."
"Sounds good Maria. I think it is a good time to discuss our stats and what skills we can do as we are now going to be in the same party and we will be fighting together a lot. "
"Okay Kai let me see what you're working with hehe"

Witch Hunt. A Warhammer Fiction
The adventures of Adebar von Bolstedt continue!Adebar von Bolstedt, fugitive noble scion of the Empire, stuck in the Great Forest of Talabecland, is gravely wounded by the bestial denizens of the dark wintery woods, only surviving due to the timely arrival of aid and relief in the form of the masters of this land. What begins as a pleasant stay with the wild noblemen of Talabecland soon becomes a matter of faith and tradition as old as the Empire itself, when he finds himself trying to root out a coven of witches from a society that prides itself on rural living and knowledge of the mysteries of the wild. This quest will either see von Bolstedt's shaken faith in his own god reforged into an intolerant blade, or shattered like ice. Word from the AuthorGreetings! Witch Hunt plays out in the much beloved Warhammer Fantasy setting (owned, of course, by Games Workshop). Do not fret, however, as I've made it a point to make the story digestible even to the uninitiated, and maybe even be a good introduction to the setting. This is the second part of the adventures of Adebar von Bolstedt, as such I recommend reading part one, titled "The Hand of Sigmar" first. While I cannot claim the places, concepts and gods etc. mentioned within as my own, the story and all characters flowed from my own fingers.
