Chapter 4: Matters to discuss = useless talk?

I stopped staring because being excess is never good. Ahh Anna is glaring at me.

After few minutes their entire family seats on the couch on left of me where Ronald and Angelina were sitting. I on the other hand tactfully seat on couch on right hand side. Thinking if there's a matter to discuss than It is better to face the person talking.

Lucas turns toward Gerard and says:

"Gerard, you may leave now."

Gerard first looks toward me then faces Lucas before bowing and saying:

"Yes Duke, I take my leave."

He then turns and walks away. Now, Lucas looks at me for a while, I however remain calm, and says:

"This is an important matter so, I hope you take this matter seriously."

"What are talking about Lucas, I am always serious. I never fool around." (me)

He looks at me seriously trying to convey his seriousness, but I return his stare looking indifferent. He then sighs at my unyielding attitude and starts to speak:

"This matter concerns Anna. Our family is duke family. Though we have serious influence in this country of Zenith, we have many different enemies as well...."

Then he starts to prattle about different things. Seriously he is making me bored. So, I will tell you lot about it in summary.

Well the thing is , in this planet called Zeon many kinds and races of people live. Well most of them you know as dwarves, humans, elves, beastman etc (different kinds of girls to seduce for me yay.) .But there is no demon kingdom, all the demons here are summoned familiars, who when their master dies will be sent back to their original world. The children from different races awake their magic at the age before they turn ten or after nine , that is almost true for everyone. And when they turn ten, children are sent to study in schools which teaches about basic and intermediate magic. They have to study there for either six year or till they become 4th circle mage. After that comes advanced academy where they are enrolled between age of 16 to 18.

Now this country or empire whatever you call it, is called Zenith like I said before because it is situated in north eastern part of planet Zeon. This is sole human kingdom. I won't say about boring things like total geography of world. I will tell that later when I roam around the planet to search different kinds and races of girls. Ah scratch that, I mean to say, I will tell you about it when I go adventuring.

Now back to discussed matter. Anna has graduated from basic and intermediate course this year and she is a fifth circle mage, which is considered extremely good because advancing to higher stages is increasingly difficult the higher you advance. Many cannot even become 4th circle in 6 years of study.

So, Anna will be going to the Paradise Island academy, which is considered best in whole planet. People of every races attend that academy. It is situated to east of this country in a big Island called Paradise Island which entirely belongs to the academy. Though safety of students is very good in academy but in academy assignments like when they tasked to go for hunting, or when going to or returning from academy many people may attack her as their enemies will be waiting for opportune moment to strike. So, Lucas is basically asking me to protect Anna well.

Sigh this long boring talk just to tell me that. Even if he didn't tell me I will never let her die because if she dies I will have to return to demon world which I am absolutely not willing, at least not before I see girls of different races. So, my reply is:

"Don't you worry Lucas. I will protect her well, as of now she is mine. And I always protect what is mine."

"""What?""" All three of them shout except for Ronald who was busy playing.

Fufufu expected reaction.

"Uh... I.. I mean that she is mine responsibility. Yeah, I absolutely mean that. I forgot the word 'responsibility'. S-so-sorry for startling you." I replied all flustered, stammering and embarrassed. (Acting of course).

"oh... Okay?" replies Angelina awkwardly.

Oh! she almost bought it. But Lucas and Anna are staring daggers at me. Ho hoho did they think I will be afraid. Well unfortunately for them I remain calm and indifferent. So they both sigh.

"Well as long as you understand." Says Lucas.

"Normally familiar are summoned at the start of year in advanced academy but for her safety and because she is already 5th circle mage we let her summon you. Because after you are 5th circle there is almost no complications in summoning a familiar without an experts help." Adds Lucas.

"Oh, Is that rare?" I reply as if surprised.

" No, its not that rare many people summon familiar before going to advanced academy, but it is always good to do summoning with the help of an expert to ensure there are no complications during summoning ritual." says Lady Hasling.

"Okay. So, when are we leaving?" I ask. I am little impatient to meet different races of people. And experience first hand what happens in magic academies in fantasy novels like higher noble boy using his power to force a lower noble girl whose family is working for his family into marrying him, or tournament in academy to determine strongest or fights in cafeteria etc. but since I am here, I will handle them, my style. Hehehhehe this will be fun.

"You will be leaving in two days." says Lucas.

"How long will the journey be?" Maybe I get to fight some bandits or maybe assassin. A rampaging magical beast will also do.

" It will take 20 days to reach port town of Faragas. From there you can hire a flying magical beast or you can take a ship going to Paradise Island. I think it will be safer to take ship." Says Lucas.

"Hmmm thats good then. We will leave in two days. Ummm can we eat something, I am little hungry" I reply.

"Okay, we have not ate as well, let's go to dining room." says Angelina.

We head out the room go to dinning room. After a while maids bring our meal. There were many things which looked tasty. So, we started dining.

'I forgot to ask an important thing because I was too excited' I thought.

"Umm, Can I ask a question?" I ask.

"It's not a good manner to talk while eating. You can ask later." replies Anna.

"Okay" I say and start eating.

After dinner we again went to hall but Ronald was sent for sleep. Three take left couch and I right, like before. Then I ask:

"How long does it take to graduate from academy?"

"Oh, I forgot to mention, it takes 5 years or one can apply for graduation if one becomes 7th circle mage or 7th tier warrior." Says Lucas.

"There are warriors as well." I inquire.

"Yes, there are. Like Gerard, he was a 7th tier warrior. Me and Angelina are 9th tier mage." says Lucas.

"So, that means mage are ranked 1st circle to 9th circle and warriors 1st tier to 9th tier?" (me)

"Yes, warrior are proficient in using weapons and mana to strengthen their body and weapons, while mages specializes in controlling their elemental attributes which are fire, water, earth, air, light, darkness and lightning. While mages are good at long range attacks, warriors specialize in short range fights. But that all starts to change after 7th stage because warriors can then use mana attacks for medium range attacks and after warriors crosses the threshold of 9th stage and enter king stage they will also be able to use elements and their proficiency increases in further stages. So, mages also start learn weapon techniques after reaching 7th stage to better protect themselves in latter stages and not be in too unfavorable condition. but before that stage they are vulnerable to sneak attacks so it is better to summon familiar in early stages to bond with them better and also, that helps in fighting at earlier stages with other warriors and also in case of magical beasts. so almost all mages have familiars." Explains Lucas.

"I see." I mutter.

"But our Anna here is different, though she became 4th circle mage 1 and half year ago, she did not quit school to join advanced academy but stayed within school to learn warrior techniques and to become proficient in using weapons. So, she is not only 5th circle mage but also 3rd tier warrior." says Angelina, seemingly proud of her daughter.

"If your questions are finished then I think we should proceed to sleep." says Lucas.

"Okay, let's go to our room Anna." I say excitedly.

"Our room? What do you mean?" says Anna confused and annoyed.

'hmmm did I say something wrong?'

"I mean we sleep in same room, right? To bond better." I say.

Anna smiles mischievously and replies:

"Normally, yes. But I am not sleeping in same room with a pervert like you."

"Absolutely true. We don't trust you on that matter." supports Lucas.

I will be damned. Did I blow my chance with my own hands? No, that can't be true. I should not give up. I will never give up.

"Ahh, you hurt me. I come from an extremely noble demon lineage, I told you before. How can you be so cold hearted to such a gentlemanly demon?." I say with a sad and hurt expression.

"That won't work." (Anna)

"Absolutely won't." (Lucas)

I turn toward Angelina for support but she is also smiling mischievously.

Well, DAMNNNN.
