《Maxing Out From the Start!》Chapter 5 - Lost

"Alright, so where am I?"

I move my head left and right to attempt to figure out where I am. Sadly, everything around is nothing but greenery. I can't see much of anything else, even with my night vision skill on... Actually, it seems Inhuman Senses is also activated. I say this because my sense of sight seems to be much better, along with my other senses. I can accurately hear the noises that are all around me. I can also tell the difference between the different smells that I'm smelling. I have no other skills that would affect me like this, so it has to be Inhuman Senses...

"Anyway, I better try to find a way back to the house..."

I take a look behind me to see a line of fallen trees. If I had to guess, my step took me flying in a linear path and sent me all the way out here. It must be due to how high my speed attribute is. Well, this makes things a little easier. I mean, all I have to do is follow this path, and I should make it home... That said, how long would that take? Wait... If I knocked all of these trees, what else have I destroyed? Oh... Wasn't I walking in the direction to the door too... How about I ignore this for now.

I shake my head to get rid of the nasty thought left after thinking about the house. First, I should try and fix this speed and other stats that I have given to myself... "Reconfigure Speed, Agility, and Strength to 0.01% (~151,000)!"

Luckily, I knew that this might happen, so I searched for a skill that could adjust my stats if I ever needed to hold back or require to become weak. The skill I found is called Reconfigure. The skill allows me to alter all of my stats' values to anything I want. It does require intellect to do so, but I have nothing to fear since I have plenty of that.

To use the skill, all I need to do is say the name, include the stats I want to change, and then give it a value. In this case, I set my Speed, Agility, and Strength stats to 0.01% of its value, which is around 151,000... This might still be too high, but I heard that the effect's the stats give increase dramatically lower as the number gets higher. For instance, there isn't much difference between 10,000 and 20,000. For speed, 10,000 is 21 kilometers per hour while 20,000 is only 23.5 (Running). Now, it's supposed to continue to decrease increasingly; however, I heard that there is a point in which it increases increasingly instead of decreases for some reason... I mean, if the former was true, I doubt I would have the speed to create a sonic boom as I did before (I think that explosion I made was one...). Nevertheless, let's physically find out...

With a slight nod, I take a couple of steps towards. Unlike before, I wasn't launched further into the forest and instead am walking normally. Well, I usually say, but I'm moving at speeds that seem slightly inhuman... If I had to guess, I'm walking around 20 kph. Next, I took off in a run.

"Amazing!"

True, my walk speed seems inhuman, but so does my running speed! I'm running at around 45 kph, which is really fast! This might not be, in fact, inhuman speeds, but this is much faster than I expected! I should be able to use this in my regular routine...

"Okay, so how about my strength?"

I have no reference for my strength before, but seeing that I could bulldoze maybe thousands of trees without feeling any pain, I can imagine... Alright, how about I try punching a tree?

I walk up to a random tree that is still intact. Then, at full force, I throw my fist onto the tree. There still wasn't any pain; however, the damage looks pretty minimal. The tree snapped and fell to the ground. This might be enough strength to crush their skull with just my grasp compared to an ordinary being. I guess this is okay?

I nodded to myself and began planning for my following actions. I don't need to test my agility as it only makes me more flexible. However, I lowered it just in case it might have some heavy aftereffect or cause some mysterious effect on me.

"Yawn! Ah, I wanted to go straight to sleep, but I guess that can wait. Since I'm out here, I might as well practice my skills. This way, I can start with the guild at daybreak."

Although I have never activated a skill before, I know exactly how to. This is the result of reading over thousands and thousands of books. I have learned most of the generic knowledge, but also some specific information. For instance, how to activate skills... I tried to understand this before anything else because without knowing how to use skills, what point is it to get them? Anyhow, skills activate through the heart. The most common way to activate them is to say their chant, the skill's name. After getting used to activating skills, the holder will control the skill through their soul or heart, meaning that they won't need to say aloud the chant. Sadly, the only way to get that good is by training. Well, if everything were easy for me, things would get boring.

"Now, I guess I'll just randomly try my other skills..."

As I began to ponder on my next skill, I start noticing all of the dirt and grim that is all over me. I guess that it got all over me when I was sent flying. Gross... I wish there were a bath around here... Wait, I have a skill perfect for this! "Clean!"

After activating the skill, my body starts shining in bright light, but only for a moment. During the light bath, all of the dirt and grime that was on my body starts disintegrating. It seems the light eats or gets rid of all of the dirt and leaves me squeaky clean. Now I don't need to waste time on baths! Well, unless I need to relax, I guess.

Now then, since I'm clean, I should start testing my other skills within my arsenal. Hmm... How about I try flying? I could use it to get home too!

Nodding to myself, I activate the skill. "Flight!"

After activating the skill, my body begins lifting off the ground. As I slowly ascend, I feel my weight disappearing as if I were in space. Once I'm five meters in the air, I suddenly stop ascending and stay afloat in the air.

"Wow! This is nice. So, how do I move?"

I swing my limbs, but I still stay motionless within the air. Then, I begin imagining what it would look like to move within my head. As I do, I suddenly start moving forward at a medium velocity.

"I see..."

After moving around in the sky, including moving up and down, I descend back onto the ground with a good understanding of how the skill works.

It's based on my mind or imagination, or in other words, it's controlled by my mind instead of my limbs. For example, if I want to move forward, I need to command the skill to move forward or imagine moving forward. I bet I can control it without doing such things, but it might take hours of playing around. I also have to imagine the speed that I want to go at; however, there is a cap. If I want to increase this cap, I'll have to increase my speed attribute. Also, as soon as the skill is activated, it constantly requires intellect.

"Next..."

I begin testing out some more skills that I have. To summarize... Dimensional Storage is a skill that allows me to store items, excluding alive beings, inside a mysterious black hole. To do so, I must active the skill which summons the black hole. I can put stuff inside it and take things out by thinking of the item I want to bring out. Each time I summon the hole, it requires an intellect fee. I tested the skill by putting a rock inside and taking it out. I noticed that the required cost increases when the rock was added... I guess this means that the more I have in it, the more it costs.

Repair is a skill that allows me to restore items to their original state. I tested the skill with the tree that I punched. Once activated, it took an initial fee of intellect based on the object I want to use (the heavier the object, the more it cost based on repairing a rock). After activation, the broken tree starts magically floating back to the stump where it fell from and latched back onto it like nothing ever happened.

Barrier is a skill that allows me to create shields of all types. For instance, I created a protective barrier on a tree, visualized it with a tinted blue glass-looking shield, and tried punching it. Unlike my attempt earlier, my fist stopped on the barrier, not reaching the tree at all. The barrier or the tree had no scratches on it.

There are other types of barriers too. I discovered that I could change the property to make some cool effects. For instance, I can make a sound-proof barrier or a barrier that withstands against G-forces. Also, I can use them for physical support or a floor. Doing it that way allows me to stand on something even though it appears I'm floating on air (Can make it different shapes or look invisible). Also, no matter what barrier I use, they all require a constant stream of intellect. It seems the more complex the barrier I use, the more intellect it needs.

Restore is a skill that allows me to restore my energy, endurance, or protection by using intellect. I can use this skill on others too. I bet I can give others some of my intellect using it, too, though I don't know if I would ever need to do such a thing...

Teleportation is a skill that allows me to transfer to a place that I have been to before instantly. The farther the distance I want to go, the more intellect it cost. Using this skill, I'm able to teleport back home! I still haven't tested that, but I did teleport somewhere in town to see if it worked and then teleported back. When I was there, I noticed that many people were in a rush for some reason...

Analysis is a skill that allows me to get information about objects or people. For instance, using the skill on trees gives me information about their names, types, life, and much more. Since I have the skill passed level 10, I get way more information than I need. That said, I should be able to get the status of others in the combination of digital status (a skill that allows me to view my status without the need for a status board). Also, I had an idea of using this skill on a barrier. I did so around a tree and punched it as I did before.

Then I activated Analysis. With the skill, I found out that the barrier had a protection attribute that showed its durability. I played around with barriers and noticed that the more intellect I put into making a barrier, the higher that protection value is. By the way, on that first test, I noticed that my punch did about 20% of its value. That said, this was one of my worst barriers. I poured more intellect into one and created a barrier with millions and millions of duration. Ha, my punch barely can scratch that one...

With Database, I automatically know all languages and know how to read and write in them. This skill requires no intellect ever and seems to be activated by itself. Inhuman Senses improve my senses to that greater than an animal. My vision improves to perfect vision and increases the range that I can smell and hear. It works like Database, too, as it doesn't need intellect...

Some of my other skills I couldn't test. For example, my healing-related skilled like Healing or Cure. I attempted to stab myself with a rock, but I couldn't lower my health or damage my body due to my protection. Since I'm not sick, I can't use Cure either (I also tried to use it on my negative effects, but it didn't work). I also couldn't test All-Creation due to not having any suitable materials.

I also tested some of my physical or weapon-based skills. For example, I have Martial Arts, All-Sword, and All-Bow. With these skills, I became the master of fighting with my fists, swords, and bows. Other than that, I got the arts related to swords and bows.

Arts are skills for weapons. The higher the level of the Art increases, the more skills you learn related to that weapon. For instance, since I have the sword-art, I can use any skills related to swords like Twins Strike (level 3). This goes the same with bows. Sadly, I don't have a sword or a bow, so I cannot fully test these skills out. I did try my martial arts abilities, though!

Lastly, I tested my magical abilities before testing my scan skill. I don't know why I did this, probably because I want to use magic, but I do so nevertheless.

Unlike regular skills, magic uses a different concept. First, to use any magic, you need a magical attribute. Normally, there's a chance of getting one when you are born; however, I wasn't so lucky. Next, you need to get Mana Conversion. This is required to use any magic too.

This skill allows you to convert your intellect into mana, which is the power source of magic. The higher the level, the faster the rate to convert takes. Since I'm at max level, I can instantly convert my intellect into mana. I also get more from intellect than normal.

After this skill, you will then have to buy magical skills. The skills are the basis of magic, like fireball or water-ball. These magical skills won't appear on your available skills unless you get their respected attribute. For instance, if you only have the fire attribute, you won't be able to see or get the water-ball spell, but you'll be able to get the fireball spell.

The higher your magical attribute is, the more complex spells that will unlock for you. For instance, the fireball spell is a level 1 skill, where the explosion spell is a level 7 skill.

With the skill Mixing Magic, you'll be able to combine different magical attribute that is required from some of the spells. I have both that skill and All-Magic Unlock, a short version saying that I bought all available spells in the system.

It's effortless to use spells, at least for me. I need to say the spell's chant or name and imagine what the spell does. I also need to say the spell's level, which determines the power output the skill has. For instance, the spell fireball at level 3 isn't at the same level as one at level 5. If I don't say the spell's level, it does it at the max it can. For me, I could accidentally destroy cities if I don't lower the level...

This is only since I have chantless, which is a skill that removes the chants that are associated with magic skills. These chants were meant to find the level the user wants to use. For example, the chant for fireball at level 1 is different than at level 8. I think it goes like Oh, spirit of the flame, give me... or something like this. After getting the chantless skill, I automatically forgot them since I didn't need them. Of course, I can use the skill to find them, but why would I need to do that?

Lastly, I have the skill Spell Engineering which is a beneficial and interesting skill. With it, I can make custom spells that weren't displayed in the system. Also, with it, I bet I can reconfigure the spells it does have and make them more powerful.

Anyway, my magic ability is through the roof, including my physical strength. So I think I'll be able to get into school with these skills and survive this world without any problems.

After having all but one of my skills tested, I start preparing for that final skill, Scan. I saved it for last because it was the skill that I wanted to use the least. It sounds like a super useful skill, but it lacks a little bit compared to my others. All it does is scan in a radius around something and scans all those that have a presence. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I'll be testing it now and then head home to the day.

To use this skill, I need to give it a range. Since I have it maxed, the range is infinite or dependent on my intellect. I also need to give it a central location. Since my range is infinite, I can dedicate a location where I want the scan to occur. With this, I'm able to scan areas without needing the location. That said, if I don't give a location, it makes me the center.

"Scan - 3 kilometers!"

As soon as I activate the skill, inputs similar to that of radar start filling my brain. If I concentrate on those inputs, I'm about to see everything within that 3-km scope. I detect all of the monsters and animals around me. Even small animals or insects that look invisible to the naked eye.

As I was exploring my radar, I notice something strange. Multiple significant presences are overwhelming two smaller presences. When I concentrate on these presences, I get a load of information about them. When I read that info, my eyes go wide.

The significant presences are giant wolf-type monsters, while the smaller ones are humans. Well, they are humans shapes, but they might not be the same race as humans. Actually, by concentrating my sense of hearing and smell, I bet I could find them that way.

"Sniff..."

"!"

Instantly after attempting to use my inhuman senses, I started smelling blood coming in that same direction. Also, I can hear some voices. It must be them.

"Wait, why am I testing out a skill when people's lives are on the line!"

Noting all of my bad behaviors in my previous life, I start sprinting towards them, hoping that I make it In time...
