Rau is a member of the Starry River Tribe of fairies. She is the sixth successor as chieftan of the tribe, and has the tribe's crest on her right shoulderblade, next to where her wing protrudes.

The Starry River Tribe protects the Starry River, which is where Rau first met Anya. She hit it off with the human child and decided to bring her to Emmeralde Verthaven. After Queen Kiridian decided to take in Anya, Rau was assigned a special role in order to watch over her. Although the official title sounds much better, Rau has essentially become Anya's nanny.

Rau loves to talk. She is sometimes a bit clumsy, but she is surprisingly clever for how she behaves sometimes.
