《Archillies Duane : The World Traveller》Chapter 12

Just before entering the inn, I could see 5 women dressed in silver plated armor, just like how Alfred was wearing.
Looking back at it, I feel terrible for the Royal Guards.
They only did their job, but when I remembered the princess’ words about her not able to do it ‘This time’, all pity freezed off.
Rather than just passing by the inn, they entered, and for some reason, I felt danger.
Curiosity took over me and I did not heed my instincts.
I entered the inn, and a cold, suffocating atmosphere was felt.
Looking at the source, it came from one of the ‘Guards’, seemingly the captain, as she talked to the Innkeeper.
Once they noticed my presence, one of the ‘Guards’ came towards me.
“Have you seen a tall, blue haired woman?”
She asked.
Obviously I have, but I can’t just tell without knowing their relationship.
“I might have, what is your relationship to her?”
As the other members heard me, I could feel bloodlust concentrate on me.
Sadly for them, I adapted to it as if I was breathing air.
The one who was asking me sighed, then opened her mouth.
“Who you have seen is the first princess, and we are her personal guards.”
“Any proof?”
“See this sigil?”
She points towards a sigil placed on her left chest.
Oh, this is indeed real, according to the books that is.
Well, I don’t want to antagonize them, so I quickly told them about her whereabouts.
“I met her while she was seemingly walking away from the inn, about 10 minutes earlier.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes yes… Long, slim, blue straight hair that falls down to her hips, cold expression, wearing a green short dress.. Need anymore proof?”
“... That.. is strangely accurate, but yes, that fits the bill, thank you for your cooperation.”

I flashed a small smile until they left, and I could feel people gasping for breath once the guards were out.
Those who were still awake had astonished expressions, since I’m the only one, other than Rudolf, who was able to stand up to the pressure with ease.
Rudolf had the same expression as well, as if asking “How could a child like him stand up to their combined pressure.”
To end the silence, I asked for a copper’s worth of food, then got to waiting.
While I sat at my table, a familiar face walked towards me.
“Waiting for someone?”
Asked Adam, the Adamantine Arm.
“No, feel free to take a seat.”
With that, he pulled the wooden chair and sat.
Looking at him closely, he looks like a man in 50s, with a leather armor and spider silk pants.
A brown beard adorned his face, with his dark brown eyes.
“How’s your arm? It was pretty beaten up last time.”
“I had a healer do the job, don’t really feel at ease without my arm doing some work.”
He then proceeds to call for the waitress, and orders a couple of different foods.
Once Bob stopped helping the people outside, he reunited with the other Arms, and they entered together.
Adam's eyes widened, as if he recognized the Buff looking Arm.
Once Bob saw him, he came straight at us, well, specifically Adam, and started floating around him as if doing some ritual.
“What is that Arm doing?”
“That’s Bob, the one that beat you, and he is happy to see you, so that is their way of showing it.”
“You named them?”
“Obviously, as you can see, each Arm can think on their own.”
“Never heard of that..”

“Me neither, but they keep me company, so I can’t complain now, do I?”
“Where are you from?”
“All that I could say is that I’m not from here.”
I didn’t really lie to him, since I did not come from this world.
“I see… By the way, you look to strong for your age, care to explain how?”
“Let’s say it is a unique class and end it with that, hm?”
“Careful one, aren’t you, I like that.”
Finally, the food came and it was high time to stuff myself.
While eating, I got the idea of telling the hands to write using mana on the air, and they agreed.
I told them to start off by writing their names, and they did it without a hitch, while still maintaining the same amount of mana I give.
After that, I told them to try their best to communicate with others using this method, rather than translate it each time.
Having a chat with Adamantine Arm, he told me his tales of adventuring to lands near the center.
Telling me all about his discoveries, I listened intently, with a flickering flame lighting up within me.
Finally having our food served, we ate, then said our goodbyes, with me renting a room for the night, to start planning out my journey.
What, thrill is one of a man’s desires, and I’m no different.
Using the information from the books, and the maps, I planned out my adventure by going to the north, then west, and finally south.
Not letting go of this opportunity, I got on the bed, and closed my eyes in hopes of having a good dream.
Dreamland, here I come!

The Perks of Immortality
This story will no longer be updated. After living decades and dying hundreds of times, Kegan has learned that he has finally passed some test that the cruel spirit had given him. Now, Kegan has the ability to gain “perks” that can make his life much easier. He is looking forward to finally having an easy life with the new perks he has earned. Rules to keep me honest for the perk system: Spoiler: Spoiler 1. The purpose of perks is to help the MC live longer and do new things each life. 2. The perks can be unlocked by getting hurt or killed. 3. The perks can be unlocked by putting in a lot of effort that isn’t easily duplicated in a new life. 4. Perks are generally beneficial enhancements to the MC’s body. 5. Perk costs can be lowered with more impressive achievements to unlock them. 6. Perk costs can be lowered by repeated death or injury from something the perk protects against. 7. Perk costs are increased for quality of life improvements that don’t benefit survival. I want to avoid one of the pitfalls I see for other LitRPG stories where the game elements barely relate to the story, or offer very little information. If people are skipping over and not reading the perks then I'm doing things wrong. So I promise to try and make the perks interesting, sometimes humorous, informative, and relevant to the story.Cover art by http://dertypaws.com/

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]
