"16 hours?! H...how is that possible? It felt like minutes maybe an hour at most?" Thinking back to make sure that Full wasn't playing a joke on him, Jayson was sure only an hour max had passed.
"Ahhh, so that's what I forgot to tell you. Basically, when you first "feel" magic, it takes much, much longer than your mind perceives it to be. Because of that, it took you 16 hours while feeling like 1. You were actually quick quick too, most people take around 20 to 24 hours to learn them. Well now onto the next task."
Jayson tried to say something but Full continued talking over him.
I still don't believe that it was 16 hours. How can 16 feel like 1? Wait I should pay attention to what he is telling me to do.
"The first thing you will have to do is fine-tune your Gravity Magic." Picking up a piece of paper he continued. "You have to use gravity magic to cancel out the gravity on this paper, making it float." Letting go of the paper, he showed how now the paper stayed where it was, and if you blew at it, it would continue to travel in the same direction.
He handed Jayson a piece of paper and told him to begin.
Ok, so focus on the Gravity Magic once more. There it is, now cancel the gravity on this paper. He imagined the Gravity dispersing from the paper and opening his eyes, expecting it to float. Instead, it slowly fell down onto the ground, but stopped a few centimeters before reaching the ground.
What the? How is the paper floating a few centimeters off the ground, but not floating further up? God this is harder than it looks.

Going to pick up the paper, Jayson felt something. Where usually it would be normal to pick up a piece of paper, he felt some sort of, repulsion from the paper. The closer his hand got to it, the stronger it was. While it was still very, very weak, it would explain why it was able to float a few centimeters off the ground and not float in mid air.
Hmmm, what if I give the paper it's own gravity? Doing the opposite he had before, Jayson pushed Gravity Magic into the paper and created a center of gravity on it. Opening his eyes, he saw the paper begin to crumble up, but not float.
Getting frustrated, Jayson began to move the magic in weird ways to try to destroy the paper. Somehow in the middle of all that, the paper floated in mid-air and Jayson had to see what he had done.
Focusing on the magic, he could see that instead of moving or dispersing Gravity Magic from the paper, he had accidentally gotten rid of the station's gravity in a small sphere, and the paper was located in the sphere.
So I got rid of the gravity in an area and that's how it worked? Huh, simple. After this realization, he received a pop-up.
Gravity Magic leveled up to Level 2.
Ok so a level up. Then another pop-up filled his vision.
New Skill acquired: Stop Gravity
Stop Gravity(Gravity Magic)Level 10% 0/10000DescriptionThe ability to get rid of a gravity in a certain area. As your skill level increases, the size of the cancelation area also increases.
Current: 10 Centimeter Diameter in a 1G Location. For each extra G, reduce diameter by half.
That's a good skill I guess. But how much mana does it use? Guess I'll have to check that out later. And according to this in a 1G area its a 10 centimeter diameter so if it was a 2G it would be 5 and a 3G would be 2.5 centimeters. What if it was 0.5G? Guess I'll have to look into that later.

Before he walked back to Full, he decided to see how much mana that had taken up.

Ok, so it took 10 mana to do that, and HEY my broken leg is fixed. Didn't even realize that. I guess not moving fixed it.
He walked back to Full and showed him that he had learned the skill. "Ok good job, now onto the next Gravity Magic you have to learn. Make that 100 kilogram ball weight 5 kilogram and make that 5 kilogram ball weight 100 kilogram."
Walking over to the balls, he continued his training.
After around 10 minutes, he had changed the weight of all the balls, but not to the point they needed to be.
The 5 kilogram ball only weighed 12 kilograms, and the 100 kilogram ball still weighed 87 kilograms. No matter how much I try or different techniques I use, it still won't go lower. Am i just not strong enough yet? Do I just have to keep doing it until it works?
Continuing this pointless argument in his head, Jayson continued to push more and more magic into the balls. After a few more minutes of this, he was rewarded with a skill.
You have gained a new skill: Change Gravity
Change Gravity(Gravity Magic)Level 10% 0/10000DescriptionThe ability to change the gravitational force in a certain area. As your skill level increases, your control over the area and how much gravity you can change will increase.
Current: Able to change gravity by 15% of it's usual. 100kg->85kg or vise versa.
Wait so right now I can only change it by 15%, so to get it to 5kg, will need 95%?!

Rooms of the Desolate
Rooms of the Desolate is a collection of short stories designed to guide the reader through the many rooms and mysteries of the bleak and greyscale labyrinth of the Desolate. The first entry, "The Forever Tower" follows an unnamed wanderer climbing an endless, colourless tower; the only world they have ever known. As they slowly ascend alongside the masses, they consider the nature of their world and look to the corridors as temptation beckons. The second entry, "Production Line", follows an engineer in a boundless factory, who encounters a product that does not wish to bow to the overseers and makes them question their belief in the truth and duties they were made to believe. Content guidelines: Current entries do not include explicit profanity, but future entries may do so, hence the presence of that tag. Some entries do include gore and violence, though not currently to particularly extreme degrees. The Desolate is exactly that: a desolate world; as such, it is bleak, downtrodden, and may deal with mental struggles. Cover art credit: Adam Borkowski on Pexels.
