《Kinda Real Online》24. Messy

No one seemed to argue with Oshak, so with him and the two he pointed out we started walking down a different hallway. One of them was a man, and one was a woman, and even though they weren't anywhere near as muscular as Oshak, they still looked like they worked out. Both of them looked human. Most of the people in the room looked human. There were a couple of pointed ears, and I'm pretty sure I saw one tail, but they were mostly human.

As we travelled through the barracks, I noticed that the entire thing was built out of stone, but it was almost as if there were no seams. It looked like it was one giant piece of rock that someone carved symetrical hallways into. Well, except for the doors, they were all metal, and all the lights were the covered crystals.

We eventually stopped in front of a door, that looked like all the others, and Oshak used his keys to get in. It was a storage room for clothing. There were shelves filled with all the uniform stuff they were wearing, and a few shelves that had some clothes that looked more like they were designed for exercise. Oshak looked at me for a moment then grabbed a few things from the exercise section and headed out again.

When we got to the next door Oshak handed the clothes to the female guard and said, "If you need anything just give a shout, we will be out here." Then he looked at me, "Once you have cleaned yourself you may put on the clean clothes, and I will take you to see the doctors."

I just nodded, and followed the female guard into the room. It was basically a locker room with showers and toilets. The lockers and showers were all metal, but the toilets looked like they were made out of marble. It was all kind of open too. No stalls or anything to offer privacy. The lockers were in several rows in the middle of the room with benches on the ends, the toilets lined two of the walls, and the showers were just shower heads sticking out of the third wall. The wall with the door also had a bunch of marble sinks, and mirrors.

When I got a glimpse of myself in a mirror, I almost jumped. I looked horrible. It wasn't hard to see why they might think I was some kind of monstrous undead creature. I was covered in dried blood, and other stuff that looked slightly burnt, and definetely not part of me. I was a little shocked that I had gotten that messy. Then I remembered the running, and fireballs, and exploading zombies, and I really just wanted to take a shower, or a nice bath, and wash all that gunk off.

"I didn't realize I was this bad. So how does the shower work?" I turned towards my guard.

"Open the valve beneath the shower and water comes out." She made it sound like I should have known that.

"Thanks!"

I tried to sound cheery, and friendly, but when she ignored me and sat on a bench I figured it failed, so I just cleaned myself. It was actually very simple to operate to operate the shower, and the water came out at a fairly warm temperature, without needing to heat up. The hardest part of the whole thing was getting my clothes off. The boots were easy, there were also surprisingly clean. There was a little bit of dried blood on them, but other than that they looked fine. The rest of my clothes were destroyed. It was almost like they had hardened in place, and the only way I could get them off was by breaking them. I thought about burning them, but I didn't want to cause a scene, so I struggled with them until I got them to rip. Which kind of caused a scene anyway, though there were only a couple other women in there at the time, so it wasn't too bad.

Once I finally got in the shower it was amazing. I could feel the grim and disgusting things from the fight washing right off. It was almost like the water was magical. Or I was in a game that made water the perfect cleaning thing. When I finished I realized that everyone was staring at me. All three of them. I felt a little awkward, but not embarrassed. Probably because of the whole dragon thing, and dragons not really caring about clothes.

"Hi, I'm Bwyd, this is what I look like when I'm clean."

They seemed to realize they were staring, and they went back to what they were doing, except for my guard. She went out the door. I was a little surprised that she just left, when she was supposed to be watching me. I was a little upset with myself for getting so excited about cleaning myself, I didn't even think about showing my dragon parts to complete strangers. Though I had no idea what these people would do. At least there was always forced respawning if things got too bad.

By the time she came back in I was already dressed, so we just went back out. Oshak looked at me, but he didn't seem angry, or afraid, or worried in any way.

"So, Bwyd?" I nodded. "You are not a half-elf. I apologize for our mistake, but if you do not tell me what you are, I will personally throw you off the wall."

I would have laughed at being thrown off a wall if his tone hadn't become very threatening. "I'm, kind of, a dragon."

"I see, that would explain your resistance to the curse of undeath. This makes things complicated. First we will need to verify that you are curse free, then we can talk about your position here." He started walking.

I followed, "Why would you apologize for mistaking me for a half-elf?"

"Elves caused the curse, so we suspect all elven kind of dark intentions. Basically, if you are an elf, or half-elf, you are fist on the list for investigation if something happens."

"Weren't there some guards that were elves?"

"No, those were beast kin. After several generations of mixing with humans, a beast kin can look like that. You can tell the difference by the angle, of the ears, and the eyes. Elves have a single color in their whole eye."

"Wait, what?" I was pretty sure I hadn't seen any elves like that, though I hadn't really talked to a lot of elves.

"Have you never seen an elf?"

"Um, I'm not sure. I knew about the pointy ears, but I had no idea about the eyes. So why did you think I was a half-elf?"

"Your fire magic. Beast kin cannot control fire. So, with your ears, it made sense you were a half-elf. Though, I guess dragons also have pointed ears, or you are a demon. The doctors will be able to tell."

We walked in silence for the rest of the walk, which wasn't that long, and ended up in a somewhat modern looking waiting room. There were chairs in the middle of the room, all lined up and facing the receptionist area. There were three bored looking guards sitting in random chairs. The receptionist area was basically a window in the wall, with a desk, and a human woman in a simple white dress. Kind of like a nurse's outfit, but more medieval looking.

"How can I help you today, commander?" She had a sweet sounding voice.

"Have the docs check this one. Full physical. Her name is Bwyd." He looked at me. "Will you cooperate?"

"Ah, yeah. As long as they don't do anything wierd. And no blood samples."

"You have to talk to them about the blood." He turned back to the receptionist, "As soon as possible. This is a high priority."

"Understood, we should be able to get her in a few minutes."

"Dero, stay with her, Tomol with me." He left with me with the female guard, and the receptionist, and the three guards in the waiting seats.

I stood there awkwardly until, finally the door next to the receptionist openned. A guard came out, and I caught a glimpse of a man in white robes.

Then the receptionist said, "Bwyd, the doctor will see you now."
