《Kinda Real Online》9. Classes

As we walked back to the guild plaza to find a class trainer for me, we didn't talk much. Marcus put his disguise back on before we left then he said follow me, and started walking. He looked like he was back in thinking mode so I didn't feel right interrupting him, and I just followed him. The plaza was almost empty when we got there, though Marcus didn't seem to notice and just went straight to a building with a crystal orb on the sign.

The building was filled with a lot of different things. In piles, on shelves, hanging in baskets from the ceiling, and in a generally disorganized mess. The items weren't even sorted in any meaningful way. There was a basket with an arrow and a watermelon. One of the shelves had a couple books, an orb, a wand, some folded cloth, and a full face metal helmet. The person behind the desk was just as odd as the stuff. He was a young looking man, with a really bad case of bed head, and no sense of matching clothes. He had one bright pink glove, a dark red shirt, a light green vest, and orange pants with one long leg, and one short leg.

As we entered the mismatched man said, "Hi, welcome to the odd magic stuff and things and, uh, yeah, stuff."

"Greetings Poroto, I have come with a request!" Marcus suddenly went from thoughtful to super excited showman.

"Oh, you. It will be three thousand gold." He sounded very bored.

"No, my dear friend. The request is not for me, but this incredible young woman. She has travelled far and wide to come to this very place. All she seeks is a capable instructor to help her learn the intricacies of magic. When I heard her plight I immedieately thought of my great friend Poronto and ..."

Poroto slammed his fist on the desk. "I don't do favors, I don't take pity on poor weary travellers, and I most certainly do not do favors for swindlers. If you do not leave now I will throw you out." He stood and glared at Marcus.

"Poroto, you are making a big mistake kicking her out of here. She could very well be your best student." Marcus lowered his voice almost like he was making a threat.

"I never told her to leave, just you. You have till I count to five. One, Two, Three, Four..." Marcus bolted for the door, giving me a thumbs up on his way by. "Now I don't care what he said, why should I teach you anything about magic?"

"Because I like magic?" I was a little intimidated by him.

"No. If that is your reason you can leave. Why should I teach you?" His glare was now fully focused on me.

"I, I want. No, I need to learn how to destroy curses."

His eyes seemed to glow for a moment. "I see, Come with me and you'll be able to free yourself. If you can persevere that is."

He walked through a door, and I followed him. The room beyond was completely different from the first room. It was almost empty, except for a large circle drawn in the center of the room, and another door on the other side. It was dark when we first stepped in, but I could see, and he didn't seem to have a problem with seeing, so it didn't really matter.

"Please stand in the center of the circle so I can properly evaluate you."

I moved into the circle, and when I did it started glowing. After a few seconds it stopped.

"Hmm, so your curse blocks any attempts to identify it. That means you were either cursed by a god, or something of similar power. Well, what kind of magic are you capable of?"

"Um, fire and darkness. I don't think there's any others." I kept standing in the circle because I didn't know what else to do.

"Then I believe I know what to offer you. You should be able to learn about curses and use you innate talent" The circle started glowing again, then:

Congratulations!

You have been offered a class

Witch

Due to your race the class has been modified

Sugarra Witch

Accept Y/N?

"I accept!" The circle started glowing brighter and brighter, then when I could barely keep my eyes open a rush of energy went from the circle into me. When it was done I had a bunch of notifications, which I turned off, because notifications are never important. Usually.

"There, you are now a witch. If you wish to purchase any class specific equipment I can provide it for you, and you can come to me for any spells, or skills you may wish to purchase. I may not be a witch myself, but this circle makes up for what I don't know. Any questions?" He started walking back to the main room.

"Yeah, what does a witch do?"

He stopped and slowly turned back towards me. "You mean to tell me you agreed to become a witch without knowing anything about it?" I nodded. He started laughing. "You are amazing. That level of trust in a complete stranger. I think we'll get along well. Much better than your friend anyway."

"Ok? Thanks." He just chuckled and led me back into the front room.

"I hope to see you once you figure out what a witch is, and once you've decided what you want to learn. Oh, and take this wand. I have a policy that if someone makes me laugh they get a free item. You did so congratulations." His tone started to sound bored again. "Now get out of here before your friend gets worried."

When I left Poroto's building I didn't see Marcus anywhere outside. The plaza was almost completely empty of anyone, and the few people who were there were probably not Marcus. I mean I didn't know for sure because of his illusions, but they all looked plain so I figured they weren't him. After standing there for a moment looking around I realized there was some kind music playing in the distance. It sounded like a lot of trumpets.
