《Kinda Real Online》8. Party!

There was a pause, then Bjorn started laughing. Lily just smiled, but Marcus kept his serious look.
Lily half whispered, "You do realize we are not human either?"
"Uh, yeah? Wait, even Marcus?"
Lily just laughed, and pointed a finger at Marcus. A bit of energy shot out of her finger and hit Marcus, he looked a little offended, and then there was a sound like glass breaking. It looked like a mirror shattered all around him, then I saw a completely different looking person.
Alert
You watched an illusion break in front of your eyes
Due to your Draconic nature (degraded) your friend list has been updated
Marcus the Magnificent has been changed to Marcus
His skin was blue, and he had two little horns that came up out of his temples and curled back to his ears. His hair was pure white, and his bright red eyes were now glaring at Lily.
She made bell noises and hid behind Bjorn.
Bjorn stopped laughing to speak, "Lily, maybe don't make the half demon angry. He does magic, and might be able to summon a dragon now. Besides, interparty conflict is never good in any world."
She made bell noises, then suddenly stopped. "Hey, Bwyd. You are not a half elf, are you?"
"Well, I'm kind of a half something..." I wanted to tell them, but they all were looking at me with strange looks. Lily had a hungry look, Bjorn's looked like he was checking me out, and it felt like Marcus was staring into my soul (of course that could have just been the demonic stuff making me feel that way).
Surprisingly Marcus spoke up, "If you don't want to tell us, that's fine. I wouldn't want to force anyone to suddenly reveal their secret. Especially if they were planning to reveal it. I wouldn't want to ruin the performance, and the brilliant speech, and the carefully constructed magic spells, and all their hard work. That would be messed up." He was now glaring at Lily.
"Ok, Ok, everyone calm down. Marcus, while you were thinking me and Lily basically decided to let Bywd join our party, so this would come out anyway." Lily stuck her tongue out at Marcus. "And Lily that was not cool. You know how Marcus likes to put on a show." Lily pouted. "So what I think we should do is introduce ourselves, as long as you actually want to join our dysfunctional family Bywd."

I thought for a brief moment, "Yeah, I'd like to join, though I have to warn you, I might be more dysfunctional."
"Cool, then I'm Bjorn, tank and party leader. I basically make the final decision when these two can't agree on what to do. I'm a half rock troll, so I heal quickly, and have tough skin. Lily you're next."
"Alright, I'm Lily, I'm fae. That's fairy, but not like those little things that fly around and drop dust on everything, I'm a real fairy. I basically heal, see most magic, cast some buffs, turn invisible, and all the mortal races can understand when I speak." She gave me a knowing look at the end.
"You already know me, I'm Marcus the Magnificent, master of magic. Specifically illusion, but I'm pretty good with some elemental stuff. Mostly wind and water. As you can see," he paused to glare at Lily, "I am a half demon. That doesn't mean I'm a demon, just a mortal human with some demonic powers. There are many different ways to become a half demon beyond just being born this way, but I was most definitely born this way. If you can do fire magic I am resistant... I'm guessing you can from that buff, so don't worry if you hit me with a little fire. A lot of fire will still be painful, but..."
"Marcus, that's enough! You talk way too much when you're nervous. We can talk tactics later. It's Bwyd turn."
They all looked at me again. I swallowed the lump in my throat and slipped my tail out of my dress. It was wrapped around my waist, so it looked like I lost a bunch of weight all at once. They were all looking at my face and somehow didn't notice, so I decided to show them my wings too. I undid a couple buttons on the front to loosen it enough for me to slip my wings out. Apparently, they misunderstood my actions because Marcus turned a darker shade of blue and turned away, Lily's mouth just hung open, and Bjorn's eyes widened and he had a slight smile.
I realized what I was doing looked kind of bad, but I didn't feel embarrassed at all. I felt like I could be naked in front of them and feel perfectly normal. It was wierd to know that I should be embarrassed, but not feel it. So to avoid making everyone else more uncomfortable I pulled up the front of the loosened top to both keep my chest hidden, and give me the space needed to slip my little wings out the collar.

"So, like I said, I'm not human. I'm kind of a dragon."
Marcus' head snapped back to look at me, and his eyes seemed to dart between my wings and my tail. The other two started whispering to each other, which looked funny because Bjorn had to crouch down and Lily still barely reached his ear.
"So, that was draconic in my notification?" His eyes finally stopped to look directly at me.
"Yeah, but that was all I could read." It was hard to return his gaze so I looked at his feet.
"How much of a dragon are you? You can't be a true dragon, they're aggressive, so are you some kind of experiment? A mutation? A miracle?" He almost sounded excited.
"I guess, I'm kinda like an experiment?" My mother wasn't sure I'd be me, so that's kind of like an experiment. "I don't really know how it happened. I was supposed to find that out later. When I'm older."
Bjorn spoke up, "So, me and Lilly've been talking, and we both want to be your servants." Lily stood next to him and just nodded with a big smile on her face.
"Guys, I don't know if you'll get the same buff. I don't even know how any of this works. I'm just lost." I felt tears forming in my eyes.
"Lily said the fae have something similar, but her rank isn't high enough to have servants, so we're guessing that every immortal race has a similar kind of buff."
Marcus joined in the discussion, "Makes sense, I read some stuff about how you got powerful buffs depending on which elder being you choose, and your class, so having a contract with a fae, elemental, demon, or even an experimental dragon probably does the same. I think it sounds like a great idea, as long as Bwyd wants to join us." He gave me a nice smile that looked so out of place on his demonic looking face I started giggling.
They looked at me like I was crazy, I did just go from the verge of tears to giggles, but I did manage to stop giggling before they threw me out. "Ok, I will join the party! And you can be my servants if you really want to. I will warn..."
Alert
You have been accepted into the party Bjorn & Buddies
Lily has become your servant
Bjorn has become your servant
"Or I won't... so, any buffs?"
Bjorn had a satisfied smile on his face, but Lily was standing there with her mouth and eyes wide open.
"I'll take that as a yes? Probably? Marcus are you still listening?" Bjorn and Lily weren't reacting to anything I said.
"Yeah, but why is your power level so low?"
"My what?"
"Power level. The numerical value that is assigned to you to denote overall power. Mine is 57, Bjorn is 45, and Lily is 63. You have 20."
"I didn't even know I had a power level."
He sighed, "What do you know for game interface stuff?"
"How to see my status, and how to get servants."
"Then your first task as a member of Bjorn & Buddies is to read the forums when you log off. There is a lot of stuff you need to know. After that we'll probably start looking for a rogue... wait, what's your class?"
"Dragon?" He facepalmed.
"Never mind, your first task is to get a class. Now. Follow me."
He walked out past Bjorn, who watching Lily, and Lily, who was waving her hands around and somehow surrounding herself with thousands of little lights that looked like fireflies.
"Will they be alright?"
Marcus shrugged, "Probably, if not they'll send us a party message. Regardless, you need a class, and an in depth lesson about everything."

Tim the Engineer
Summoned against his will to a world of swords and magic, an engineering student struggles to find a way home under the shadow of a world devouring threat. ***************************** Updates: 5/13/19: Revisions to several chapters for clarity, grammar, and style. 4/29/19: A short side story and artwork has been added to the blog. 4/8/19: A Side Story has been updated on my new blog (every writer is required to have one). https://talesfromliahar.wordpress.com/ ***************************** “The summoning scenarios are broken down into groups of ten.” Emi Ito stated. “Don’t, don’t you dare say another word.” Muttered Genzo Uchida. His eyes had turned bloodshot and his hands shook with rage. “The first thirty…” “Shut up!” Genzo bellowed “How dare you help these disrespectful gaijin?” Flecks of spit and madness flew from his face, his fist raised ready to strike. But Emi did not flinch, instead she was about ready to continue when Yuma Takeuchi interrupted her. “Uchida, please,” her sweet sounding words could melt ice. “I think we will have a better chance of getting home if we all work together.” When she glanced up with her sleepy looking eyes at Genzo Uchida he deflated visibly. “Were not getting home.” Uchida said coolly. “Group summoning, large, that puts us in the 60 series. No one came to greet us after five minutes of arrival. That leaves scenarios 68 and 69. In scenario 68 there is something that binds the large group together; they are all classmates or a single family. But thanks to the gaijin” he spit out the word “I think we are scenario 69 with no way home.” Ikko Inoue’s eyes went wide, while Katsukno and Hayata started muttering to themselves. Tim took on a serious look and rubbed his scruffy chin. Emi maintained her stoic expression while trying to find something to refute. McKenzie glanced at Randall and giggled. Randall took the prompting of his teammate and followed up by approaching Genzo. “Uh, so we are in a sixty-nine?” “Yes.” Replied Genzo with the seriousness of someone who’s life was about to end. McKenzie covered her mouth and snickered. “You and me, were stuck in a sixty-nine situation?” Randall pushed with a grin. “Yes, we are all stuck in a sixty-nine scenario together!” Genzo retorted in anger. McKenzie fell on her butt laughing. “What the hell is so funny?” Demanded Genzo, whose face had turned red. “It’s a problem with the automatic translation.” Retorted Tim. Randall, who seemed unable to quit started in again “So, about this sixty-ni…” Genzo interrupted Randall with a swift punch to the face. But, because of their height difference it was a bit of an uppercut that left Randall rattled. Tim and Ikko moved to step in between the two, but Genzo showed no further hostility. Instead he just stared at his clenched fist with such intensity it grabbed the attention of the room. “I unlocked a skill.” He said bluntly. ***************************** This is not a light novel, but people who like light novels should enjoy the themes of this book. ***************************** A Map of the Region

Average chapter length is about 4000 words, with only the first vision being noticeably shorter. Have fun reading.
