《Reincarnated as a Pillbug monster》Chapter IX: [Skill check] (part 2)
Resistance type skills are quite important in this world.
Being able to dodge and evade attacks is sometimes a matter of life and death,
but if you slip up, resistance skills are your lifeline.
Or that how it should be...
Honestly, even after these 5 days of hellish training in this hellish environment,
I never even noticed the effect of those skills.
I wonder if that is because they are still too low, or something like that.
Well let's check them out and see if we can solve this mystery!!!
[Skill check [Physical Resistance:Lv2]]
[-Skill name: [Physical Resistance]
-Skill type: Resistance type skill
-Condition for acquiring: Suffer 10-15 HP of physical damage
-Skill effect: Resistance to physical type damage (Blunt/Piercing/Slashing)
The percent of resistance increase each level by 5 %
(The exact percent varies between individuals)]
Haaa, well let's go with "they are still to low to feel any kind of effect" explanation...
Honestly, this only make things more confusing... I mean [Suffer 10-15 HP of damage] is completely untrue.
I mean, didn't I acquire this skill after I killed that big brown pillbug right after I hatched ?
I suffered like 3 HP of damage at that time, so why did I acquire it then and there ?
[The speed in acquiring skill proficiency is about 30% higher than normal in first 22 hours after hatching]
Eh? Really ?! Why didn't you tell me that in the first place !!!
[That question was never asked...]
For real ?!! Are you really going with "you never asked so I never answered" scenario ?!?!
Haaa, is there any other information that I should know, yet it was never given to me?
[After each level up, the speed of regeneration increase by 45% for a hour...]
And another great mystery so casually solved, just like that...
This is unbelievable...
I spent so many hours thinking about why did most of my injuries and broken scythes healed so soon after each battle...
Well, I already thought that it was something like that,
but you could have at least thrown me a bone at that time, RIGHT ?!
Ugh... This is SO irritating, so let's continue...
[Skill check [Fire Resistance:Lv1]]
[-Skill name: [Fire Resistance]
-Skill type: Resistance type skill
-Condition for acquiring: Suffer 5-10 HP of damage from [Status: Burning]
-Skill effect: Resistance to damage from [Status: Burning]
The percent of resistance increase each level by 3 %
(The exact percent varies from race to race)]
Oho, I see...
Well, it's quite weak for now, but it can become a lifesaver at a higher level.
However, if I understood this correctly, [Fire Resistance] and [Heat Resistance] are two completely different skills, huh ?
Or maybe [Heat Resistance] doesn't even exist and we are completely screwed in this desert...
Since having [Fire Resistance] doesn't make this heat any less bearable...
Haaaaaa, this is SO depressing... NEXT !!!
[Skill check [Dehydration Resistance:Lv1]]
[-Skill name: [Dehydration Resistance]
-Skill type: Resistance type skill
-Condition for acquiring: Suffer 2-6 HP of damage from [Status: Dehydration]
-Skill effect: Resistance to damage from [Status: Dehydration]
The percent of resistance increase each level by 5 %
(The exact percent varies from race to race)
The feeling of thirst is reduced after each level up]
Uhuhu, called it! I knew that this skill will help us the most in this environment.
So glad that it even reduces the feeling of thirst.
Let's level up this skill a little more just in case...
And with that, we are done with Resistance type skills.
What did we find out,
NOTHING relevant, just like with the Race type skills...
Hmm, next are the so called "Normal Skills"...
I have three normal skills:[Roll], [Digging] and [Bash]...
Those skills I use the most and naturally I know about them the most.
I wonder what new I will learn about them...
[Skill check [Roll:LV5]
[-Skill name: [Roll]
-Skill type: Learnable type skill
-Condition for acquiring: Successfully roll 50 times (Some races are born with this skill)
-Skill effect: Ability to peform a successfull roll's continously.
Speed of each roll increase each level.
Time between each roll is reduced each level.
After each level up, new information is provided that increase the effective usage of the skill.
(Some races cannot learn this skill. Races that cannot increase the [Roll] skill past LV3 due to physical limitations,
[Roll] skill will be forcibly changed to [Acrobatics] skill.)]
Aha, here's something different from the other skills.
While [Race Skills] are as their name suggest, race specific and cannot be normally acquired
and [Resistance Skills] that are acquireble based on what kind of damage you take,
[Normal Skills] can be learned by constantly performing a specific action.
Hmm, while I have already guessed what this skill does,
the [Skill Check] again give too little information to know exactly how much does it help me after each level up.
Just like with other skills until now.
Well, since I use this skill constantly, I actually can feel the difference after each level up,
even if the difference is small and not easily noticeable.
Not only does my speed increase, I also don't get tired so easily and not to mention,
I can sometime learn how to perform a action that I previously didn't know how, like that "roll jump".
The most interesting thing is that not every race can learn this skill
and even if they do, they can only level it up to LV3.
After that, it will be changed to [Acrobatics] skill...
Hmmm... If I remember correctly, you'll learn how to jump while rolling when you're [Roll] skill reach LV2,
at LV3 only the speed of you're rolling increase...
I see, I see... So, if for example, a human learned this [Roll] skill,
he wouldn't be able to level it up past LV3 no matter how I think about it,
so then his [Roll] skill would become a [Acrobatics:LV3] skill.
[Acrobatics] skill, as the name suggest, probably improve the movement and reflexes, or something like that.
[Roll] skill isn't that much different from it, so it make sense why it would change to [Acrobatics]...
But still, it would definitely look bizarre if someone started jump rolling constantly to move around.
Wait, didn't I move around like that in that one game I played a long time ago ?!
Ok, ok, enough of that, next skill !!!
[Skill check [Digging:Lv3]]
[-Skill name: [Digging]
-Skill type: Learnable type skill
-Condition for acquiring: Dig a hole (Take a large chunk of soil and move it somewhere else)
-Skill effect: Increase the speed of digging.
After each level up, new information is provided that increase the effective usage of the skill.]
Heh, this one looks like it's a simple skill that everyone can learn and use it.
For me, acquiring this skill was like a godsend, since I'm no longer human and have a scythes for hands...
However, [After each level up, new information is provided that increase the effective usage of the skill]
is not enough information to justify how much useful it is to quickly level up a skill like this.
For example, with most race type skills and all resistance type skills,
bonuses that each level up provides are so small that they aren't noticeable immediately.
However, with normal type skills and some race type skills, no matter how small, each bonus can be felt immediately.
This is probably the result of the information that I get after each skill level up.
However,
the information that I get is not like some kind of manual that I follow step by step to perform some kind of action.
It's more like a jumbled mess of numbers, symbols and words that is sometimes impossible to understand.
This is probably because I don't need to use that information consciously, but rather unconsciously.
When my [Roll] skill reached LV2, the information how to roll jump is the only one that I understand perfectly,
others, not so much... For example, when I first started to dig a hole with my scythes to bury myself in the sand,
I was having a extraordinary hard time doing it. I felt like I was trying to dig with a pitchfork...
But when I got the [Digging] skill, it felt like someone handed me a shovel to dig with
and that was only from acquiring the skill.
The information I got at that time was so hard to understand that if someone asked me to try and explain it,
all I could answer is " how to move my scythes" and nothing else. This is why I come to the conclusion that
the information I get after each level up is to be used unconsciously rather than consciously...
Anyway, let's move onto the last skill...
[Skill check [Bash:Lv1]]
[-Skill name: [Bash]
-Skill type: Learnable type skill
-Condition for acquiring: Inflict 10-15 HP of blunt damage.
-Skill effect: Increase the damage done by a blunt attack.
The percent of damage increase each level up by 4%.
The blunt attack done by a "Weapon" increases the damage each level by 2% more.]
Hoooh, I see. This one also doesn't have that
[After each level up, new information is provided that increase the effective usage of the skill] thing.
Looks like [Bash] is a simple attack skill.
I wish I have some kind of skill that could increase the damage inflicted by my scythes, but this one isn't that bad either.
If I level up this skill a little, together with [Rolling] skill, they could become a deadly combo.
To better understand this skill, if a human had it, he would inflict 4% more damage if he throw a punch at you.
But if he hit you with a club or a hammer, he would actually inflict 6% more damage, or something like that...
Aaaaaand that's all for the skills I have at the moment.
While the things I learned about them was less than I had hoped for,
it's still useful and I managed to confirm a few things.
Too bad I couldn't see Leafy's skills and compare them to my to see the difference,
but I guess I can wait a little longer for that.
NOW THEN !! For the final, all that's left are the...
Huh ?
Hmmm... I can hear some kind of sound...
I strain my ears to hear more clearly, Leafy is also on guard...
Let's see... I can hear the sound of rolling, 2-3 individuals by the sound...
They are coming closer and closer...
Heh, I planned for today to relax, but I guess we could test how much we have improved in the last 5 days...
