Indigo walked through the hallways looking for her next class. Today was not a good day for her, she is not only exhausted but she has a test later today. On top of that she has to switch out of her class because her teacher quit.
Knocking on the door of her new class, she opened it. As she entered the room everyone turned to look at her. Indigo could feel her heart beating up. Social anxiety was her biggest hater there was no reason why she should be this scared.
"What's your name", the teacher said with a tight smile as she took out her clipboard. Meanwhile the room was dead quite with everyone looking at her. Indigo was trying to practice what she was going to say as she pulled on her hair. "Indigo", she muttered.
"Can you please speak up", the teacher asked. This is the main reason Indigo hated school. All of these teachers already know about her situation. They just insist on picking on her for no reason. Like your touching 50 and you have beef with a child. Very embarrassing.
Clearing her throat she repeated herself, "I'm Indigo". Some of the other kids started laughing as the teacher said, "I still can't hear you but go sit down". Indigo fought back tears as she went to sit down at the back of the room.
Taking her seat she shook her leg as she tugged on her hair. She can feel that people were talking about her. This was another reason why she hated this school. These uglyass kids picked on her at every possible occasion. They claim she's suck up because of how she dresses and the fact that she doesn't speak to anybody. On top of that she is darkskin so she always gets the lil darkie jokes.
As she sat down reading the article she felt something hit her. Looking down she saw a balled up paper on her desk and looked around to see Ria waving at her. Cracking a smile she opened the paper.
hey friend come sit by me :)
Looking up again she saw Ria gesturing towards her with a bright smile. Slightly smiling she gathered her books and walked over to their side of the room. As she walked a leg was put in front of her and she almost tripped.
Fumbling a little she looked up to see that it was Mia. Indigo had no idea why that girl constantly bothered her. She just seemed to have joy in seeing her miserable. Trying to ignore the girl's comments she walked around her only for Mia to stick her foot out again.
Indigo hated confrontation. She just wants to come to school, learn and go. But at this point Mia was just trying to provoke her. Indigo counted to five in her head ready to tell Mia about herself. As she opened her mouth to say something one of Mia's friend's dropped a textbook behind her.

The worst thing about Indigo's PTSD is the way certain sounds and conversations caused her to go into flashbacks. Mia knows this and always does certain things around her that triggers her episodes. Dropping a textbook on the ground can be one of them seeing that the sound it makes resembles a gunshot.
The minute the textbook dropped on the floor, Indigo felt her heart drop and her mind go to a different place. Her eyes filled with tears as she just froze on the spot. From a distance Ria could see that something was wrong with her and quickly walked towards her. Wrapping her arm around her she walked Indigo to the bathroom.
The minute Indigo entered the bathroom she fell on the floor breaking down in tears. She hated having these flashbacks and hated being sad. She just felt like a burden to others. Ria wrapped her arms around her and could feel her shaking.
"Breathe in and out", Ria said, trying to coach Indigo into calming down as she was visibly hyperventilating. Ria does not know Indigo's full backstory but she knew a few parts of it. "Calm down and tell me five things you can see".
Taking a deep breath in Indigo said, "I see you, water, a window, my phone, the toilet". Stroking through Indigo's hair she said, "Four things you can touch".
"Myself, you, the floor, and my hair". After going over all the sense's Indigo's breathing was finally normal. Taking out her phone she called her aunt. The phone rang a few times before it picked up".
"Hey NiNi", her aunt said through the phone. With a shaky voice Indigo said, "Can you come get me tt. Ion wanna be here no more". With no hesitation Ameena made her way over to Indigo's school.
~~~~~~
Indigo sat in her aunt's car with her head leaning on the window. "You gonna talk or just stare", her aunt asked as they parked in front of the Popeyes. "Go order your food", her aunt said, passing her money. Tring to avoid conversation Indigo quickly exited the car. She felt like she let her aunt down and she didn't like that at all.
As she entered the store she tripped a little and bumped into the person in front of her. "Watch where the fuck you going", he said in Louisiana accent. Looking up from his phone he met eyes with Indigo who was looking at him with a weird look on her face.
The boy stared back at her. Indigo was noticing a resemblance between the two. They both have dark brown eyes with rich dark skin. As they stared at each other they felt a spark between each other. Not a romantic spark more like a family type spark.
"I know you", the boy questioned, raising his eyebrow. Shaking her head Indigo looked back at her feet. She felt a connection with that boy but she just could not figure out why.
Fifteen minutes later she sat back in her aunt's car doing a lil dance as she opened her box of chicken. Saying the grace Indigo took a bite into one of her chickens. "You know you can tell me anything right", her aunt asked.
"I know".
~~~~~~~~~~
Indigo laid in her bed writing in her journal. Seeing that it was already two o'clock she closed the notebook and felt herself fading off to sleep.
Opening her eyes Indigo can feel like she was in a different place. An image was playing on a screen in front of her. Walking closer Indigo saw a chair and took a seat in it. The minute she took the seat the film started playing.
A lady stood in an office speaking to who seemed to be a doctor, "Ten thousand dollars. That's the final deal". Indigo quickly noticed that the lady was her grandmother. Thinking for a while the doctor nodded his head as he shook her hand.
The image fast forwarded to another month. There was a dark skin woman pushing and grunting with a man holding her hand. Looking closer Indigo's eyes filled with tears as she realized that the two people were her parents. A first child came out and Indigo quickly knew that it was her.
Suddenly Indigo's jaw dropped as her mother started pushing out another child. Her mind quickly ran with different thoughts. The main one was the fact that she was a twin. The child that was pushed out looked slightly blue. Indigo watched the man tell her mother that the baby was dead.
The doctor then carried the baby to another room where a grandmother was with a man in a mask. Indigo watched in shock as she recognized the man as her dad's former best friend. He was also their murder. The doctor seemed to cut the baby's cord and it started crying.
Indigo saw her grandmother pass the doctor a bag of money and the doctor pass her the baby. The image went blank for a second before it rapidly flipped over and over.
For a split second Indigo saw the baby all grown up. Her jaw dropped as she realized that the grown up boy looked just like the boy she saw today. As quick as the image appeared it also disappeared, the screen turning black.
Indigo jerked out of sleep breathing heavily as so many thoughts flew through her mind. Does that mean that boy is her brother?
~~~~~~~~~~
Indigo sat on the floor in the room trying to think of what to sketch. Today was Tuesday and she was supposed to have school but because of the panic attack she had the day before Ameena let her stay home. Feeling something brush over her leg Indigo looked to see the family cats walking around her. Ameena purchased two cats for Indigo a few months ago.
The black one is named Fluffy while the white one is named Penolpe. Picking up both of the cats Indigo put them in her lap as she ran her hand through their hair. As she took out her paintbrush her phone rang. Checking her phone and seeing that it was Sev she picked up the phone.
As she picked up the call Sev said, "Why you ain't in school". Picking out some colors she replied, "Cause ion want to".
"I'm coming to your house". Indigo started laughing before she realized he was serious, "Hold on, leeme ask my tt". Taking out her phone she went to the group chat.
"My auntie said yea", Indigo told Sev. Fifteen minutes later Sev was walking in her room, "Gimme a hug", he said leaning next to her. Leaning into him Indigo gave him a hug. Sev sat next to her smoking as Indigo finished sketching the painting. Myself by Layton Greene played as she tried to find the perfect shade.
"I loved you when I didn't love myself", Indigo sang along with Layton's voice under her breath. Feeling someone staring at her she turned her head to see Sev staring at her, "You so fine" he said smirking at her.
Watching Indigo get flustered Sev smiled to himself. Indigo was so cute to him especially when she gets nervous. Looking around her room Sev asked, "You did this". Looking around her room Indigo nodded. The walls in Indigo's room were littered with different paintings and graffiti. She normally adds something different to it every month.
"Your tattoos are so pretty", Indigo said. Looking down at his arm Sev responded, "I do them myself". Sev wanted to be a tattoo artist and he most definitely had the skill to do it. Taking out her body paint Indigo asked, "Can I color them". Hesitating for a second Sev agreed, taking off his shirt laying down on his back. Indigo sat on his lower body and started coloring in all of the tattoos.
Sev looked up at Indigo with a small smile on his face. She was so different from the other girls. Not just in looks but her personality and the way she carries herself. Grabbing Indigo's face he stopped her from painting. Indigo looked up directly in his eyes and she could feel butterflies in her stomach.
Sev pulled her face closer to him blowing the smoke from his mouth to her. He pressed his lips into hers pressing a few kisses on her. Indigo pulled back pushing her hair behind her hair, blushing a little.
The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
