《Bad is an Understatement | ✓》Chapter 8

I wake up yawning in my bed. I sit up, rub my eyes, and stretch my arms out. I grab my phone off of my nightstand and check the time ten a.m.
I sit up leaning my back against the headboard. I push my uncontrollable hair away from my face as I read through the messages I've recently recieved .
Can we meet up today?
Seen at 10:05am
Sure, anything serious?
Seen at 10:05am
I'll tell you when we meet.
Seen at 10:06am
Um, okay. How about after class around six thirty?
Seen at 10:07am
Okay, meet me in the cafeteria.
Seen at 10:09am
Okay, see ya(:
Seen at 10:10am
Okay, bye!(:
Seen at 10:10am
What does Kat want to talk about? She sounded serious. I let out a sigh running my hand through my hair. I tug at the end of my hair where my hand gets caught in a knot.
I put my phone down and head to the washroom. I take a quick shower, and get ready for the day by wearing a loose white tank top with a pair of black and white printed shorts. I slip on a matching necklace and bracelet. I carefully tuck my phone into my wallet before heading down to the cafeteria.
I grab a small carton of white milk, scrambled eggs and bacon for myself. I find an empty and clean table on the far back of the cafeteria close to the window. I walk over and sit down to enjoy my mouth watering meal.
I eat at the same time as scrolling through Instagram, Twitter and then Facebook to keep updated on the latest events. After I'm done, I pick up my tray and turn around to put the tray back. Everything on my tray jumps with me when I I'm faced by Ian who was standing right behind me,"What are you doing here?!" My voice was little too loud and rushed.
"Hey to you too." He smiles. I walk around him, and put the tray on the counter before walking out of the cafeteria.
I could feel ian following closely behind me," Let me guess you're here to talk?" I ask while walking and texting Jen, who was really bored in class. She was currently explaining to me why her teacher's clothes should be in the trash instead of on him.
"Yes." Ian simply says.
"Well, can you just get to the point?" I cross my arms, and stop in front of him. I'm not short, but mostly every guy including him towered over me. I slightly tilt my head up to make eye contact.
"Umm," he scratches the back of his neck," I know you're mad, because you gave me a second chance and I well, kind of blew it. So I'm not going to say sorry again. I actually wanted to invite you to the party I'm holding at my place Friday night."
"What makes you think I'll come?" Was I being a little too rude?
"I don't know, but if you do I'll take it as you forgave me."
I roll my eyes," Are we done?"

"I guess?" He says.
"Good." I turn around and start walking away this time he doesn't follow me. He can't just invite me to his stupid party and expect me to forgive him. If he is, he is way more stupid than I thought.

Computer science isn't that hard. Right now the teacher was going over what we learned today. Dylan just so happens to be in my class and sat next to me. We talked a bit when the teacher wasn't explaining anything.
He's generally a cool guy. Him and Kylie have been dating since they were in grade ten. He also mentioned, after I asked, that Heath and him are childhood friends; they grew up as neighbours. Dylan kept talking about his little sister, Rebecca too. The way he talked about her told me that he is a great older brother. It made me kind of jealous, because I've always wanted a sibling of my own that cared that much about me.
"Riley?"
"Huh? I mean, yeah?"
"Class ended five minutes ago."
"Oh." I reply to Dylan who was standing next to me giving me a skeptical look.
"Do you want to be partners for the graphing project?"
"Graphing project?" He nods," Oh yeah that." I have no idea what that is."Sure."
"It's due next week so do you want to work on it in my dorm on Sunday?"
"Sure, but not your dorm, I don't need unnecessary rumours going around. The guys lounge should be fine."
"Haha okay." He chuckles, but nevertheless nods his head in agreement." And a couple of rumours wouldn't hurt would they?" He winks.
"Nope. But they'd hurt your and Kylie's relationship. If you... don't care then I don't mind-"
"No, it's okay." He replies awkwardly.
I hold in a laugh," The lounge it is then. I'll see you Sunday." I walk towards the door.
"Wait." I stop and Dylan's now in front of me.
"Yeah?"
"Aren't you going to the party Friday?"
"What party?" I act like I'm clueless.
"Ian's party. He told me that he invited you this afternoon."
"Oh, that party. Yeah... I'm not going. At least I don't want to."
"Why not?"
"I love parties, but if me going there stands for I'm forgiving him." I say with quotations," Then I'm not gonna go. I'm not going to forgive him that easily he has to earn it."
"Okay, but we all know you're going to come."
"How would you know that?"
"Because I already texted Kylie and Jen, telling them that you are invited to the party and refusing to go. They'll force you." He smirks proudly.
"And here I thought you weren't such a jerk." I walk away.
"Hey," he catches up to me and walks beside me," I'm not a jerk. If you come to the party you'll meet more people and make some other friends that's it."
"Or it's just another place where you guys would prank me. I'm not as stupid as you might think, and I can literally sense the eagerness you have for me to come to this stupid party."

"You're scared. Oh my, my is Riley King scared of getting pranked?" He uses his baby voice trying to tease me.
"The jerk returns." I announce while I roll my eyes," No I'm not scared. Okay? I just don't want to go to the party, because I'm not forgiving that jerk. Do you want me to write it down on paper for you?"
"Fine. But you won't be able to resist once Kylie and Jen once they start annoying you."
"I think If I can resist decapitating Heath, I can resist saying yes to going to some stupid party. I don't cave in easily." And with that Dylan stops walking with me. I walk out of his sight going to the cafeteria.
One day. Just one effing day without someone nagging me. Is that too much to ask for?!
I walk into the cafeteria not expecting to see the whole basketball team sitting at one of the tables. I stop in my track. Whow. What is this about? I think to myself.
I spot Kat and walk over to her. All the chatting from their table stops. All their gazes turn towards me in a creepy way. I tug on Kat's arm," Kat can I talk to you in private for a sec?" I whisper in her ear.
"Sure." She smiles. I pull her over to the side away from the team.
"I thought it was only suppose to be me and you."
"Yeah, I mean no. If you knew everyone was going to be here you might've not come."
"What do you mean. Wait, no. Why is everyone here?"
"To persuade you?"
"Persuade me? To do what?!"
"To try out for captaincy." She pulls me back over to the group.
"What?!" I stand beside Kat in front of the team's current table.
"Okay, so today's meeting is about who we want this year's captain to be." I look around noticing that everyone from the team is here except one. Kirsten. "And as we've all talked, we came to one decision. Riley?" She looks at me.
"Huh? Yeah. Th-that's me." I totally zoned out.
"Riley you are more than capable of becoming captain. You're a great player, with intense skills that most of us don't have. Not even Kirsten. You're also a great leader. You understand each and everyone's skills, and you know what positions everyone would be good playing. This is why, you should at least try out to be captain."
"But coach is choosing the captain."
"No, I overheard her saying that she chose two people from the team who she's going to introduce tomorrow. Then there's going to be some sort of game which will determine who becomes captain."
"Guys." I start off not knowing what to say."I want to become captain, but I'm the new player and becoming someone on the team that's so important is so much effort and hard work. I don't even know how the team works on the court during a real game. Kirsten does, and if you still don't want her to become captain then I think Kat would be just as amazing as me."
"Uh-uh. This is about you, and we all know I'm not as skilled as you. Just please. If you're one of the players chosen tomorrow we just want you to give it chance, and not decline the her offer."
I sigh." Okay, I will. Only, if I'm one of them." The whole team cheers. "Okay, okay! Settle down we're gaining too much unwanted attention." I laugh at how happy they all are.
Why do they all hate Kirsten so much? She couldn't be that bad could she? Now, I just said yes for something I'm not sure I even want.

Focused on You by Eric Bellinger blasted through my ears as I sat on my bed currently reading Insurgent. I finished reading the last of The Hunger Games yesterday.
I feel a hand spank my butt as I laid flat on my stomach." Ow! What the... don't slap my butt." I turn around to see Jen. I pull out my headphones and pause the music.
"Get your lazy butt off the bed I'm taking you out for dinner."
"Why? I think pizza will be good."
"Riley, you're an athlete I can't believe you even look at that stuff."
"I have good genes okay? Don't harass me about it. That's the only good thing my parents actually gave me." I speak the last part to myself.
"Whatever I'm still taking you out."
"Why?" I whine. I was really comfortable in the room.
"Because I want you to meet my parents."
"You're taking me to dinner to meet your parents?"
"Yup. Now get your butt off that bed!" She hits my butt again.
"Fine. Just don't do that. It's weird." I just don't like being touched by anyone. I guess it's one of the cons from my past. I've gotten better at it. For example, how Heath attacked me by holding my wrists severals times and when his arm curled around my waist I wasn't that bothered.
"Okay. I won't." I get up. I decide to go in the outfit I was already wearing from today, and just slip on some matching sandals.
"After you ma'am." I joke around and gesture to the door with both my hands.
"Why, thank you." She replies with her head held up high and we both giggle at our weird behaviour.
Wait. I think to myself. We're meeting Jen's parents who are also Heath's parents which means Heath's going to be there. Also, gosh his parents might know so many secrets of him. I mischievously smile at the thought. He is totally getting payback for my sore wrists. I haven't seen him all day, wonder how his face looks. "Heath's coming right?" I ask as we both walk to the dorm's parking.
"Yup." Jen says. I guess we'll find out then. "He's our ride." Jen adds.

Draugr Cell //Layer 01-- Investiture:
With the end of the only war to ever reach mainland Australia I found myself living out of a small room in an old military compound that had been handed over to the jurisdiction of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The end of the war, unfortunately, didn't mean the end of hostilities. The terrorism trend that had started back in the early 2000's with the attack on the world trade center over in America, had spread to just about every country on the face of the planet. Over time the constant threat from various groups meant the civilian police force was quickly undermanned, under equipped, and overwhelmed. They were simply unable to respond to the daily threats in any reasonable time frame, and in many situations lacked the both the skills and equipment required to deal with the threats to put them down in a 'safe' and expedient manner. Veterans of the war that were being reintegrated into society however, were just about everywhere, all the time. We have the training and the skills required to deal with just about any threat you care to mention, all we needed was access to the equipment to do so. In a world first, under the new Veterans program, the Australian government had taken the rather controversial step of allowing specifically selected veterans to go armed in public. Sure, with Australian weapons laws being very, very strict there were a number of hurdles to get over first, but that's where the selection part comes in. Tangentially that's actually how I met Brianna, my current partner. We work as ringers in Victory City, I thought being thrown into imptomtu combat operations and risking my life on a daily basis for barely livable wages was excitement enough. Then I met her... it... I don't know. An AI unlike anything else out there has wedged itself into my life and decided it needs to... look after me. What could possibly go wrong? **** This is the first book I have released, and my first entry into a cyberpunk universe. There is minimal drug use, a fair amount of sex, a bit of gory violence, and a sultry AI that has decided the main character needs a harem.

Mordheim: Servants of The Damned (A Warhammer Fantasy Fiction)
“The Great Library,” Stated the stranger with a pause. “You know of it?”“Of course I do. In the Merchant’s Quarter?”“Yes, in the Merchant’s Quarter. I have gathered that there is an… artefact of importance within its walls.” Slowly, the figure produced a rusted key from the furls of his robes and held it in a black-gloved hand. “This opens the door to its chambers. It is the grimoire of Gunnar von Krugenheim, and I believe that it would serve better in the world than locked away in a dusty room.” Behind the cursed walls of Mordheim, warbands and gangs of all stripes are embattled in constant wars for resources and power. The cursed city attracts throngs in the thousands, searching for treasures, artefacts, power, and sometimes all three. The Cult of the Hidden Brethren is no exception, and when an opportunity to extend their reach is discovered, the cultists are eager to take the opportunity. However, not all is set in stone, and soon the cultists discover that the lure of power alone may not be enough to give them the drive required to see their quest done... --- Mordheim: Servants of the Damned is a fanfiction set in the world of Warhammer Fantasy, which is not owned by me but by the company Games Workshop. I of course, lay claim to nothing in this story but the characters I have created, and the core events of the story itself. This is my first true foray into fantasy writing, let alone Warhammer Fantasy, therefore any feedback is welcome. (It should be noted as well, the cover art is merely an artwork I found online and is not mine, therefore I do not lay claim to that either.)
