One week ago:( I mean one week before the meeting and the camp)

Sometimes life tends to be difficult and unpredictable. One day you are the happiest person on earth but the next day you are the most miserable one. It can throw a lot of obstacles in your way and make your life hell. It likes to play with our fates and twist them painfully. Life can be very extreme either it gave you everything or left you with nothing.

Those were the thoughts that were running through Anna's mind while she was washing her face. She looked at her reflection in the mirror. Until when will she endure this life? One year is the answer. She needs to hold on for one more year then she will be able to leave this orphanage and go to college. One more year and she will get rid of all her past and start a new life. She knows her high scores will grant her a scholarship in one of the top colleges. Her life will be better she will make sure of it.

Anna was awakened from her daydreaming with the voice of another girl standing behind her "Do you mind moving out of the way? Or are you planning to stand here all day?" the blonde girl asked snidely.

Anna rolled her eyes at the girl and left the bathroom silently. By now she was used to this treatment from the girls in this place. They don't like her and took every chance they got to harass her and put her down. At first, she tried to make conversations with them and were always polite and kind, but their cold refusal and constant attempts to humiliate her made Anna give up on them and be satisfied with her two best friends.

Anna went to the room she shared with "Jaycee" and "Kayla". Those girls were her best friends, heck they were her only family and support in that life. "Kayla" was a short brunette with black hair and big brown eyes. She was shy and very timid. She was a hard worker and very dutiful. Jaycee was a very bubbly girl who liked partying and going out. She was a blonde girl with big green eyes. Her body was very sexy and everyone would turn their heads when she walks in the hallways of high school. Jaycee wasn't very interested in school, and she was determined that she will be a supermodel after graduation.

Anna opened their shared closet and pulled a black short skirt with a plain pink t-shirt. After she was dressed she put her hair in a high ponytail and wore her black flats. She looked satisfied with her looks, she was one of the sexiest and prettiest girls in their school and was intending to use to her advantage, not in a bad way of course but a little attention here and there wasn't bad. She was a member of the cheerleader's team and the mathematics club, not a usual combination but she was happy with it. Thanks to Jaycee she joined the basketball cheerleader's team and was having fun there even when she wasn't as bold and loud as the other members. She has the brains and the looks, at least life gave her a little justice. She grabbed her plain pack back and turned to the girls who were ready and waiting for her.

-"Well girls, I think it is time we leave before old josh leave us behind"

Jaycee let out a sigh and put her phone in her jeans pocket, and grabbed her flashy backpack while Kayla put her books on the nightstand table and throw her bag over her shoulder.

-"Finally the princess is ready to leave. After your majesty" Jaycee said sarcastically while bowing theatrically in her way out of the room.

Anna rolled her eyes at her friend's antics and put her arms over Kayla's shoulder pulling her in a hug, she always felt protective of the girl, Kayla is very sensitive and has a hard past, so the girls tried always to include her and make her at ease.

-"so Kayla how was your preparation for our last exam?" asked Anna while they were making their way towards the bus waiting for them.

-"you know I am not good at maths but with your help, I hope I will do good" replied Kayla

-"I don't feel like I prepared well enough for the test," said Anna

-"says the genius of our school, you can do maths while sleeping so stop acting nicely on our behalf" scoffed Jaycee.

Anna ignored her comment and talked to Kayla instead:

-"I am very happy it is our last week of school and then we will be free all summer"

-"yup, we will go partying every day and have the fun of our lives" spoke Jaycee again.

Anna let out a mock tired sigh at her friend's statement and said:

-"All you think about is going out and partying, well let me break the news to you Kayla and I are not going anywhere with you, we plan to work and save some money for college"

Jaycee gave them a childish pout and stomped her way to their usual back seats, her two friends smiled at her antics and joined her as well.

In reality, Anna was never going to a party with Jaycee again. Last year was enough for her for a lifetime. The partying and drinking weren't her things. She doesn't understand why people like to be in loud places getting drunk and dancing very close to each other. Every time she remembered what occurred at the party last year she would feel sick. She didn't even have fun heck she didn't even make a conversation.

That evening Jaycee was trying her new dress while Anna and Kayla were trying new hairstyles they found on the internet. Finally, the tests were over, and four days more and they will be free for summer.

Suddenly they heard a knock on their door, Jaycee who was the nearest opened it to find "Cady" one of the orphanage workers standing there, the woman smiled at her and said kindly:

-"the manager needs to speak with Anna, so please can you fetch her for me so I can escort her to the office"

-"Anna, Ms.cady is here. The manager wanted to meet you" Jaycee shrugged when Anna looked at her in confusion. It was a long time since the manager called any of them. By now she gave up on them. Every time someone offered them a foster home they would have refuse and when they were forced to go they would have made the foster parent's life hell so that they bring them back. They promised each other they will stay together until they become of legal age and could leave, even then they will rent an apartment and live together. They were inseparable and no force can tear them apart.

Anna knocked at the door in front of her and entered the office after the manager gave her permission. When Ms. Sasha saw her, she greeted her and gave her a warm smile while offering her a seat. By now Anna's nerves were burning she was having a bad feeling about all of this. The knots in her stomach tightened more when she heard the next words leaving the manger's lips.

-"Today I got a visit from a man who is willing to help you and home foster you. He even promises that he will adopt you if things work out"

Anna wrinkled her nose at Sasha's words and said strongly:

-"you know my opinion about foster homes and adoption, one more year and I will become free. Offer him another younger girl. They need more help than me"

Sasha sighed at the girl's reply. It is not like she was surprised or anything but she secretly hoped that Anna will be more cooperative this time. The man that visited her today was a powerful one. He promised her that he will donate a huge amount of money if she was capable of convincing Anna to go with him. She tried to offer him other girls but he was insistent and didn't budge. It is time to use a new technique with the girl. She knew very well that Anna is a soft girl who likes to help others.

-"look Anna the man who offered you a foster home is a very powerful one. I had our social workers doing a background about him. He is one of the most successful men in the country. He offered to help me with anything I need in the orphanage. All he is asking that you go to live with him and his family. He is trying to help Anna. He even promised to bring you back if you don't like it at his home. Just consider it. He will help other girls like you. Like you said one more year and you will be legal. Can't you just sacrifice for other girls? They need it, please Anna" Sasha begged.

-"you are particularly selling me, Sasha, why does he want me?" Anna said disbelievingly.

-"you know I am not selling you, Anna, I protected you all these years. I didn't accept any offer of foster home for you or anyone of your friends for the last four years. But this time I am desperate, we need the money and he offered it"

Anna swallowed hard, she tried to speak but her voice refused to come out, the lump in her throat grow bigger and bigger. Sasha took the girls silence as a sign of refusal, not nervousness so she spoke in a hard tone:

-"this time is not a choice Anna. I didn't give anyone a choice in this matter but I considered your special circumstances, I even ignored your friend's behaviors in foster homes. I let you stayed together for long. This time you will go. There is nothing wrong with this man. It is our place policy if we don't find anything suspicious about the foster parents so nothing is preventing you from going with him. I suggest you start packing your things. He will come to get you this Thursday. You are dismissed, Anna"

Sasha's heart broke when she saw the look of hurt in Anna's eyes. Her hands were shaking and her face paled making her eyes seem larger. Anna nodded her head and walked towards the door in a daze. Sasha felt like the cruelest person on earth. Anna was in this orphanage for seven years. She considered her as a daughter and protected her for long. This time she can't do it. The man who visited her today wasn't ordinary. His presence alone gave her Goosebumps. One look from him can bring strong people to their knees. She knows he can ruin her and make everyone suffer. He seemed the kind of man who gets his way and expects direct obedience.

She sympathized with the poor girl. She wondered how her life will be with him. The man was married and has twin boys. His wife looked nice and kind though she didn't come with him. He claimed she was home preparing a welcome party for Anna. He said she was pretty excited that a girl will join their household.

She hoped he will give Anna a happy life. The girl deserved the best in this world. She prayed to god he will treat her right and don't bring more grief to the girl's already hard life.

I am unbreakable, I am strong, I can do this, and I won't let anything bring me down. It is another obstacle in my way, everything will be okay. In the end, I will be happy. I will make it unscratched. I protected myself all this time and I am not planning to stop it now. Those were the words Anna kept chanting in her head. She found herself in front of her bedroom door. It is time to face the music. She will tell her friends tonight and get it over with. She managed a fake smile on her face and entered the room.

The moment she set a foot in her room her friends attacked her with endless questions. She looked at them with a sad smile. She sighed deeply and said:

-"they managed to separate us girls. I am leaving this Thursday"

It is amazing how one sentence can change your world. Just one sentence and your world will crumble before your eyes. Kayla shook her head vigorously while trying desperately to hold the tears from falling.

Anna pulled Kayla to her chest and said reassuringly:

-"it is okay........"

At her words Jaycee snapped from her shock and said angrily:

-"it is not okay Anna, you are leaving us and it is not okay. You will not leave us. They can't do that. We have plans for our future. One more year and we will be free. They can't ruin it. It is impossible Anna. We need to find a plan, we can escape together....."

This time Anna cut her off and pulled her in a hug while whispering in her ear. Jaycee wasn't the type who shows emotions especially vulnerability. But the idea of Anna leaving them was breaking her heart and destroying her soul. She can't help it but let tears stream down her face. After a few seconds Anna pulled her away gently and put her hands on Jaycee's shoulders:

-"Jaycee calm down. She said if I don't like it in this house I can come back here. You are my home and I will always find my way to my home. I promise it is not goodbye" said Anna calmly trying to keep her calm for her friends. She was freaking inside. Her instincts told her this time was different. She won't come back. This time was the end. Her instincts never lied. She tried to push those bad ideas away and concentrate on comforting her distraught friends.

-"Why did you agree? Why did you give up this time?" asked Jaycee accusingly.

-"I am doing this to help you and all the inhabitants of this orphanage. According to Sasha this man is powerful and promised to donate a big amount of money."

-"no...no...no...no you are not doing this for anyone's sake. I will go to Sasha's office and give her a piece of my mind" said Jaycee hysterically.

-"ENOUGH" screamed Kayla to the shock of them both.

Her outburst was unexpected and gets the attention of Jaycee and Anna. They looked at her waiting for her next words. Kayla sat at the couch in the room. She looked like the life sucked from her. Her eyes were sad, and her voice quiet, she spoke the next words in a whisper:

-"This is our life, our reality. We are orphans we don't have the right to have families. Our parents left us in this world. We were delusional to think we can be family. We were lucky Sasha let us be together for long. She took pity on us and didn't force us to go to foster homes. But she can't refuse a huge offer like that. She thinks about the benefit of other children we need to accept reality. This is not a fairy tale"

Kayla's words lingered in the air. Jaycee slumped on her bed and Anna remained standing looking blankly at the wall. Kayla's words were harsh but they were true. They were alone in this world and don't have many choices. They were puppets in fate's hands.

That night sleep came in the form of horrible nightmares. Anna tossed and turned in her bed repeatedly. She wished the sun will shine sooner than usual. Her mind was miles away. One more day and her life will change forever. It was the second time her life will be ruined.

When Anna woke up the next morning she decided to make the last day with her friend the happiest day of her life. She started the day with her usual routine. When she returned to the room after taking care of her necessities she found Kayla up and combing her hair. She sat beside her friend on the bed.

-"Kayla I intend to make this day happy. Please help me cheer up Jaycee. We will make the most of this day. It is our last day together" said Anna gently holding Kayla's hand.

Anna watched as her friend swallowed hard and spoke sadly:

-"Remember we love you, Anna. We won't forget you even if you are miles away"

Anna fought hard to keep her eyes at bay. She promised herself to keep together until the end. She squeezed Kayla's hand and nodded at her. She didn't trust her voice at the moment and it wasn't the time for breaking down.

-"Okay let's start our day. It is time for fun" said Anna with a cheerful smile.

Happy days and joyful moments end quickly. That day was one of the best in Anna's life. She spends it with her friends. They ate at their favorite restaurants and then went to the ice cream parlor. They went shopping until their feet bruised, they laughed without restraints, without any care in the world. Even Jaycee who was hesitant at first she let go of her sadness and put all her efforts to make this day memorable.

At seven this evening, three exhausted girls threw themselves at their beds with satisfied smiles on their faces.

-"thank you so much, girls. You made me so happy today. I won't forget it" breathed Anna.

-"We do it for you, Anna. Our last day will be unforgettable. Make sure you give that man hell so he gives up on you and brings you back to us" ordered Jaycee.

-"don't worry I will come back, he won't keep me for long" assured Anna smiling.

After dinner, Anna went to Sasha's office. When the woman saw her, she gave her a cold greeting thinking the girl comes to argue her case. Anna smiled at her and said with a smile:

-"don't worry Sasha. I am here to thank you for everything you did for me. I am grateful to you. I have one last request"

-"of course, anything you want," Sasha said with her voice full of compassion.

-"I want to promise that Kayla and Jaycee will stay together no matter what. I will convince that man to support you fully. Please Sasha"

-"don't worry Anna, I give you my word. I am sure that man will take good care of you. His wife looked kind. Finally, you will have a family. Give it a chance, maybe you will have happiness"

-"as long as you keep your promise I will be happy. Goodnight Sasha"

With those words, Anna went back to her room and lied in her bed staring at the ceiling. Jaycee and Kayla were asleep today's outing took a toll on them. Tonight was the last time she will be sleeping with her family. Sasha's words came back in her mind she said that man and his wife will give her family and happiness. In Anna's world, no one can replace her friends they were her everything. Starting tomorrow she will face a new world. She will head to the unknown. She will start a new life with strange people. With those thoughts racing in her mind she drifted to restless sleep.
