Chapter 11.

Brooke's POV :

He doesn't come back for a week like I told him. After the weeks over, he stops over to get some more clothes. Right before he leaves, I stop him.

"This is for you." I say handing him an envelope. Inside the envelope contained the divorce papers he needs to sign and that our trial will be held June 28. He steps outside and stand there for a second before turning back around.

"I'm sorry Brooke." He says. I laugh and shake my head. "Not sorry enough not to do it." And I slam the door in his face then lock it.

I hear Ella toddle down the stairs.

"Was that Daddy?" She asked. I'm not one to lie to my kids. I give it to them like it is.

"Yes," I sigh. "It was."

"Aunt Paige told me Daddy was being bad so he got put in a time out. What did he do?" I smile and mentally thank Paige for saying that so I didn't need to.

"Daddy was being mean to Mommy. I don't think he'll be back, though."

"Good. He's being a meanie-pants!" She exclaims. I laugh and tell her to go upstairs to change into her pjs.

The next morning it's the norm. I take Ella to school, talk with Paige in the mean time, take Ella to Nolan's house to play with Joslin, then stay and talk with Nolan. I tell him all about how I'm divorcing Brandon's butt and taking a lot of cash with me. Talking with Nolan makes me feel a million times better. We're like two girls in high school gossiping about everyone else.

"Joslin and I are going to a water park this weekend. I was wondering if you three wanted to come with us." Nolan suggests. I nod.

"Yeah, that'd be fun." Ella has school tomorrow, so I leave at around 7:30. "Bye Nolie." I laugh, creating a terrible nickname for him.

"Bye Brooklyn." Brooklyn is my real name and it gets under my skin when people call me by that.

...

"I'm so sorry I'm gonna miss your trial. I really wish I didn't have to go back." Paige weeps on the day she moves. It's the middle of June, two weeks until I can divorce Brandon. The only reason Paige is moving back to Pittsburgh is because that's where her job is taking her. She's a nurse in a hospital. Ella has been clinging to Paige all day because she thinks that if she never lets her go, she never has to leave.

"Hey, that's ok. I'll get Nolan to come with me. And thanks for helping get an amazing lawyer." I smile. Paige hands me two big boxes that are labeled, 'Brooke's Crap'. "This is some stuff you and the girls left here." She explains.

"I think I might have some of your stuff, too. Why don't you come over for your last day in sunny Georgia." I suggest.

I put Ali down for her nap when we arrived home. Ella begged for us to let her come in the attic with us. It's her last day with her aunt for a while so I thought, why not? I unlock the creaking door and head up the wooden steps that are bound to break under someone's feet one day.

"Most of these boxes are my stuff! Why didn't you give me any of this?" Paige laughs. "I hoped to save it for your wedding day." I stated.

Paige was about to get married a few years back. Her fiancé was a solider and died in the battle field. She was a wreck for weeks and still hasn't been able to recover after four years. She starts looking through all the boxes, as do I. I find a picture book full of pictures of Paige and I.

There's us posing together in white and green dresses, modeling together in black crop tops in booty shorts laughing, and our millions of selfies. The very last page is a picture I drew when I was in third grade. I read it out loud:

"My favorite member of my family is my little sister, Paige. I like calling her Paigey Mack, though. Me and Paige are the bestest friends. She usually doesn't know what she's talking about and always plays Barbies with me. I don't like Josh because he pulls my hair and messes up my room. Me and Josh and Paige all dance at Abby Lee Dance Company.

I really like Miss Abby because she always puts her best into my dances. I hope me and Paige can have a duet one day and I also hope we become best friends forever." We go through a ton of other stuff, then I help her carry the boxes to her car. "I'll miss having you around." I sniffle, hugging her.

"Well who wouldn't?" She jokes. I say goodbye to her and watch her pull out of the driveway.
