tugged her sweater closer to her body. today was a chilly day. she walked out of her house, her hands shoved inside the pockets of her sweater (the girl accidentally left her car by a nearby convenience store. she was drunk and her friend had to pick her up. yes wheein has a friend).
wheein thought about getting contacts, but the thought of putting something up her eye disgusted her.
she quickly moved her glasses on her nose. "im definitely ordering contacts," wheein mumbled to herself (she's told herself to buy contacts dozens of times, she's just never went through with the plan).
"jung wheein!" a familiar voice called out to her. wheein looked to the voice. god—get me out of here wheein thought as her eyes met with yongsuns. "come over here!" wheein couldn't face yongsun again. she shook her head.
(im not gonna repeat all of that :))
wheein's heart was running hundreds of miles. what was that girl doing to her. her face felt warm and she no longer felt the cold biting at her skin. she looked at the dreadful house. sometimes wheein wishes that she never met yongsun, but without yongsun—no she won't think about her. the inner turmoil made her heart sink.
wheein shook her head.
yeah, her relationship with others isn't the best (because wheein's too socially awkward to make a conversation) but why hyejin of all people. why did she not show her hwasa?
her phone rung. "wheein come home, i made some food," she drooled at the thought of her grandma's food. "okay. i'll be home in a few," "alright," her grandmother's weak voice came over the phone.
here's the thing—her father left her at a young age, which to this day wheein doesn't know why. wheein's mother sends her grandmother money to take care of her, but she can't take a hour or two to visit her only daughter.
wheein always feels alone.
the only person she has in this dreadful world was her grandmother. and yongsun. wheein wanted nothing more to run straight up to yongsun and get what they had back in ninth grade. but, yongsun wouldn't want her back.
"wheein i—" the boy's arm around yongsun's waist fell. "no don't tell me," wheein dryly chuckled. "you were gonna sleep with him if i didn't walk in on you, weren't you?" wheein crossed her arms.

"of course not! i just—," "i'm leaving," wheein ran out of the hallway. she shouldn't have tried to be with yongsun.
the girl felt water prick at her eyes. not again. wheein thought she was over this, accepted the fact she wasn't enough for yongsun. the girl sighed as she saw the small convenience store that always reminded her of home.
she remembered when she brought up the idea of moving away to her grandmother. she couldn't handle the fact she was only a street away from the person she thought loved her.
at the time, it felt like the world was crumbling around her, like there was no one to come and save her from this mess.
god—wheein couldn't even look her in the eye, couldn't even speak her name without having all the feelings well inside of her.
but, when she saw yongsun at lunch she felt like the girl could read all her thought. every single one.
wheein poked the girl's back, not knowing the girl she loved was right in front of her. "hwasa. we are tutoring later, yes?" wheein caught yongsun's eyes. the anger built up inside of her. hyejin didn't notice. "i'm busy during my free period. would you rather now or tomo—" wheein wanted to scream. "we can do it now," all she could do was nod and wait.
the thought scared wheein.
"are you that excited to see me?" yongsun smirked at the smaller. "shut up unnie. you don't know what you're talking about," a blush sat on the girl's cheeks. yongsun intertwined their fingers. "wheein, i don't think you understand how much i care for you," she rubbed small circles on wheein's thumb.
"i might have a hunch,"
wheein shouldn't have trusted yongsun.
~
"yah! yong what was that about?" byul annoyed the older. "it was nothing!," byul just rolled her eyes. "you can tell us things, y'now. you don't have to bottle it up," hyejin popped a grape into her mouth. "fine. i have a past with....wheein," she gulped.
hyejin looked towards yongsun.
"what do you mean?" byul pried. "we were childhood friends. i told you, then things happened and we don't talk anymore," hyejin felt some sort of feeling of hurt inside of her. "okay whatever you say unnie," byul shrugged and placed a grape inside of yong's mouth.

"you should eat more," yong blushed. "aw, you're so cute," yong smacked byul in the arm. "and you're greasy," hyejin rolled her eyes.
they've been like this for a hour.
hyejin remembered her small deal with wheein. she opened her phone, and pressed the girl's contact.
wheein im third-wheeling :(
you promised to pick me up!!!!
sorry. busy
YOU CAN'T JUST DO THAT TO ME
i just did
hyejin rolled her eyes with a smile on her face.
that's too mean :(
fine, are you still at the house?
yuppp, i'll be waiting
i seriously am gonna leave you out there
no you won't. you like me too much :p
"guys i gotta go," byul just looked at her. "okay bye," byul just waved her off. "i don't even get a proper, sad goodbye?" yongsun rolled her eyes. "bye hyejin~ love you," byul stared at yongsun. "you never say that to me," yongsun stared back. "because you never ask," byul smiled. "tell me~"
"no," "yah!—," hyejin walked out of the house. they really are the cutest couple in the world.
~
hyejin saw a black car turn in on the house. "are you getting in or what?" the window rolled down, revealing wheein.
"of course!" hyejin got into the car. she's freezing, hyejin had stayed outside for a while and the weather was very cold. wheein stared at hyejin. "what?" she looked back at wheein. wheein had turned on the heater. "could've told me you were cold," a small smile flashed onto hyejin's face.
"why would i tell you if i knew you'd already know?" wheein just rolled her eyes and backed out. "where's your house?" "i don't want to go home," wheein tilted her head. "then where am i dropping you off?" hyejin chuckled.
"you haven't pieced it together yet?" wheein shook her head. "your house, silly," wheein blushed and looked over at hyejin. "no," hyejin pouted. "come on wheenie," "no," "we aren't gonna do that wheenie, unless you want too," hyejin smirked.
"my god fine! also don't call me that," wheein groaned out. "you love it," wheein just rolled her eyes. "we're here," hyejin's mouth dropped. the house was drop dead gorgeous. "i dunno what we're gonna do," hyejin just smiled. "watch romance movies until we cringe?" wheein just shrugged. "not into romance movies," "would you rather make out in your room all day?" wheein glared at hyejin.
"no! geez hyejin why are you always thinking about that?" "maybe it's because i'm with you," hyejin opened the car door before wheein can chuck her somewhere.
"let's go!" wheein had smiled and walked towards her door. hyejin is a child wheein thought. she jammed the key in the door and unlocked it. "wheein!" wheein and hyejin walked into the house. "grandma," wheein's warm voice enchanted hyejin. it sounded so loving.
"whose this?" wheein's grandmother looked at hyejin. "a friend of mine," the grandmother smiled. "oh wheein, the food's cold!" she scolded the younger. "sorry," wheein cheekily smiled. "where did you go?" she asked.
"don't worry about it grandma," she just gave wheein a look and smiled at hyejin. "you're welcome to have dinner with us. i always make extra," the smile brought half-moons to her eyes. "of course ma'am," hyejin respectfully bowed. "ah, don't call me that. you make me sound older than i already am," a smile caught hyejin's mouth.
"thank you for the food," hyejin happily said.
~
"wheein your grandmother can make the best food in korea!" wheein chuckled. "i know right?" she grabbed her laptop and put on netflix. "what do you want to watch?"
unconsciously the two had huddled up close together, their skins were touching, not even air can get between them. "no don't turn off the alarm!" hyejin's brows furrowed. "how i wish to be in jojo's shoes," hyejin sighed.
"really?" wheein voiced her thought out loud. "yeah but instead of guys there'd be cute girls," wheein just shook her head. "wheein, can i ask you something?" "of course,"
wheein looked over. the space between them was so close, if one of them accidentally leaned a tiny bit in, their lips would've touched. wheein cleared her throat and scooted a bit away from hyejin so there was space. "you don't have to answer, okay?" wheein dumbly nodded.
"i know that something happened between you and yongsun," wheein's breath stopped.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
