《Breathing ∞ Kol Mikaelson [1]》[47]

By the time morning rolled around, Emma found herself alone at home, sitting at the dining table with a multitude of notebooks spread out around her. And in front of her, the one Klaus had gifted her for her birthday. She was scouring her father's journals, having taken all which deal with witches from the Mikaelson the day after she spent the night.
She was writing down any spell she could find, resisting the temptation to use the obsidian her mother had given her to try some of them out. Only in case of emergencies, she continued to repeat in her mind. Distracting herself with magic so she didn't have to focus on everything that happened the night before couldn't really be considered an emergency.
Klaus was dead. And Rebekah, Kol and Elijah had left the town, going god knows where. Each of them alone. Left to their own devices if Alaric managed to catch up with them. To say Emma was still a big ball of nerves would be an understatement. And she was missing Klaus.
They worked their asses off to annoy each other, but it was how their friendship was built. Well, Emma considered him a friend. She could never be sure what was in Klaus' mind at any particular moment. But she liked to think he'd considered her a friend as well. And now, she would never be sure. All because of the damn Salvatores and their incompetence.
"Nope, no. Not going down that road." Emma mumbled to herself. She knew if she did go down it, the Salvatores might find themselves in a bit of trouble, caused by her. And then she'd be the next one in it. "You're a newbie witch, they're out of your league." For now.
And that was why she was here, writing down spells and using her phone to check the correct pronunciations of the words. Not only for some kind of vengeful idea, but also because the Mikaelsons were gone. Emma had promised both Rebekah and Kol, although he didn't know about it exactly, that she'd survive the next six months. And while she'd made her peace with the vampire blood that would involve, she also knew that in her time with them she'd made quite a few enemies in the town.
Damon, the most impulsive of the Mystic Falls bunch, certainly wasn't her fan. And with the Original family gone, Emma couldn't be sure if the rest of the group would still view her as a threat. In case they did, in case they tried something, Emma had to know at least some ways to defend herself. And luckily for her, her father's initial fascination with witches ensured he didn't only write down any possibilities which would be helpful with Emma's disease, but rather anything and everything he learned from them and about them.

The moment her phone started to ring, Emma was repeating the incantation of a cloaking spell, smiling proudly as she deemed her pronunciation right as it should be. She answered the call, smile remaining on her face even if she was somewhat disappointed by the name shown on her screen. It wasn't who she was hoping it would be.
"What's up, blue eyes?" She asked in a happy voice, curious as to why the boy would be calling her. They were somewhat friends, yes, with their little human alliance and what not, but they weren't really on a random check-in calls basis.
"Hey, uh, I could use a bit of help." Matt said, his voice somewhat hesitant. Emma's brows furrowed curiously, about to ask what he needed from her, because, of course, she wouldn't say yes before she knew what it was. However, she didn't need to, Matt continuing on soon after. "My truck's kinda... Out of commission. So I could use a ride."
"Sure, where should I pick you up?" Emma asked. That she could do. Even though she was a bit curious as to why he was calling her of all people.
But then Emma reminded herself about last night. Tyler had died. And while Emma had some anger still stewing within her about his part in Klaus' demise, he was still Matt's friend. And Matt was grieving him. Perhaps he was calling her just because he didn't want to deal with the rest of his friends who were going through the same thing and would rather ignore it for the time being. After all, she was doing the same, so who was she to judge?
"The hospital." Now that answer had her pausing in surprise.
"The hospital? What the hell? Why? What are you doing at the hospital?" Emma questioned, suddenly hurrying up the process of pulling on her shoes and collecting her keys as she headed out of the house. She ran her mind over last night's plan, wondering whether Matt had been involved in any of it, but she couldn't remember his name ever even being brought up.
"I'll explain when you get here." Matt said, leaving no room for her to say anything else before he hung up. What Emma didn't know was that there was a very specific reason Matt wanted to call her instead of anyone else. They had their alliance, what Matt wanted to know whether she had broken it.
"Are you okay? What happened? You look fine. Is that because of Dr Fell? Why were you in the hospital?" Emma attacked Matt with all her questions as soon as he climbed up into the passenger seat of her car. Her brown eyes scanned over him, searching for any visible injuries but she was unable to find any.

"So you're telling me you have no clue?" Matt's voice came out much harsher than he'd intended it to. It served as a reminder that he wasn't nearly as good as she was in hiding her motive until she had the information she was looking at her.
"No clue? Why would I? You're not even telling me what happened?" Emma, however, still wasn't catching on. Matt wasn't sure if her shock and confusion were real or whether she was simply playing her part.
"Never heard of a plan to run my car off the bridge?" He asked, deciding to get straight to the point instead of beating around the bush. If she did know what his intentions with the questions were, she'd see right through him either way.
"Who would run your car off the bridge? Why? When?" Emma continued to question, not even bothering to start her car and drive out of the hospital parking lot. This time, her questions were met with a silence, Matt's blue eyes focused on her as if trying to figure out whether she was playing him. "Matt!"
The blonde boy gave out a sigh of defeat. Again, he remembered he wasn't as good at this whole digging up information and true intentions thing. All he had was his gut, and to him, Emma's murderous glare made her reactions seem rather genuine.
"Rebekah. Last night. She appeared out of nowhere while I was on the bridge. Forced me to crash into the river." Matt explained, giving the short version and not diving into the details he most certainly didn't want to talk about.
"Why would Rebekah do that? Rebekah likes you!" Emma exclaimed in a questioning tone, finding that explanation hard to believe. Only after the words came from her mouth did she realize that perhaps she shouldn't have broken the friend code by saying that last part. But it was too late to take it back now.
"Because Elena was in the car with me." Matt admitted, making Emma's eyes widen.
That certainly made more sense. From the moment they started devising the plan after Elijah's arrival to town, Emma had been questioning how long it would be before either Rebekah or Kol decided to change their mind on the 'No trying to kill Elena' clause of the deal. She wasn't expecting it to be this short though.
"Elena's... Is she... Dead?" Emma couldn't help but ask. Her mind was running a mile a minute thinking of all the possible outcomes of this. Rebekah had a target on her back either way, even if the attempt failed, the Salvatores would be coming for her because of what she did. But if it didn't fail...
"Something like that." Matt gave a cagey response, Emma looking over at him with a questioning look.
"She survived?" Hide your disappointment, hide your disappointment, she reminded herself. This was still someone's life. And while she didn't like Elena, her own selfish reasons weren't good enough of a justification for wanting her dead.
"She's in transition." Matt finally revealed, making Emma fall into a shocked silence for a moment.
So Elena did die. With vampire blood in her system. And now she was becoming a vampire. She really didn't know what to think of it all. Once again, she reminded herself that this was Matt's friend, she couldn't just jump him with questions about Alaric. Instead, she focused on the point he'd brought up before. He suspected she might have known and not warned him.
Again, Emma wasn't entirely against the idea of ending their Alaric troubles by killing Elena. And knowing she kind of survived made her feel better about it. But if Rebekah had told her the plan, Emma would have made sure to convince the blonde to leave Matt out of it. There were other ways to kill a defenceless human. She would know considering she'd thought of many of them when coming up with ideas to protect herself in this town.
"I'm..." Emma was about to say she was sorry, but stopped herself, knowing it would be a lie. "It wasn't part of the plan, I swear to you." She finally settled on that instead. Because that part was the true. Rebekah had gone rogue. Neither she nor Elijah were aware, that she was certain of.
But she couldn't help but wonder if Kol did. She knew he wouldn't have even spared a thought to try and stop his sister. And if he did know, did that mean he was still in town? If Elena had died, that meant Alaric did too. Rebekah certainly knew there was no reason to leave.
The realisation that the Mikaelsons didn't have to go, that she didn't have to wait six months to see either one of them again, well, Emma couldn't deny that it somewhat brightened up her day. But it also made her realize she had some people to hunt down once she dropped Matt off. And so she peeled out of the parking lot, ready to get on with it.

8 212Cultivation Anomaly
Follow the journey of an individual given a classic cheat trope in a cultivation world. What does a man do when he finds himself unsure of who he really is yet is given a cheat? What really happens to a cultivation world when it is overrun by MC level characters? Is the cultivation world just run by cruel young masters, short-sighted elders and uncaring experts? Note: Tags may be removed or added to this story as it progresses. For example, I added the harem tag because I wasn't sure if it would appear so be forewarn. Also, productive feedback is always appreciated even it may be ignored. Note 2: Original idea inspired by "Arrogant Young Master Template A Variation 4". I wanted to do something similar but have a more gritty realistic feel. The system SHOULD differentiate as the story goes on but if it doesn't it means I need a rewrite. Either way, read AYMTV4, it's great. Note 3: If you give criticism to be helpful, please try to be descriptive, specific, and focused on making my story better, not changing the story to how you would write it. 8 135I'm Always Talking to Myself
My name is Zach. I’m a typical bland featureless protagonist type. The kind of guy who has purposefully few defining characteristics so that people can project whatever they want on me. Like Luke from Star Wars or what’s her name from Twilight. Most main characters are like me. Kind of flavorless blank slates because we all secretly doubt that we’re Harrison Ford, but pretty much anyone could be Mitt Romney. Yep. Yes indeed, I do spend basically my entire life running an internal dialog to no one. Usually I’m imagining that there are people listening. Like maybe philosophers from Ancient Greece, or researchers from another planet who act suspiciously like the characters from that Instagram comic with the aliens. Stupid Instagram comedians stealing my internal monologue and turning into a wildly successful enterprise which I would imagine has a vibrant merch dropshipping arm and hundreds of thousands of daily dopamine hits for loyal followers. I basically spend all of my time explaining random things to imaginary people (and aliens, and animals, and household items which have inexplicably gained sentience and frankly have some concerns about this whole existence thing). Honestly, it’s both highly entertaining to me, in that it makes me think about why we humans do all of the bizarre things that we do, but also horrifically exhausting and kind of makes you feel like you’re either, worst cast, losing your grip on reality, or best case, becoming Abed from Community. Anyway, I’m sure that I have some distinguishing characteristics, but, in the interest of hypnotic suggestion I’m choosing to omit them until I’m pretty sure that you have subconsciously come to identify with me, or until I feel like it. (By the way, in case I forgot to mention it, a higher power called Aww Thor or something told me to say that this is a slice-of-life comedy adventure and that it's set in a fantasy world with isekai and LitRPG elements.)
