《Cellphone Swap》Chapter Three

I woke up and looked at a guy. I was laying on his chest and his arm was wrapped around me. When I realizing what was happening a small scream escaped my lips and I jumped and fell off the bed. "Are you okay?" A husky male voice said.
"Yeah... did we do anything?" I asked sitting up to look at the guy. "Nate?" My eyes went wide and I put my face against the bed.
"We didn't do anything." Nate said, his voice was extremely sexy from just waking up. I let out a breath of relief and picked my head back up. "Do you always cover your face when you get embarrassed?"
"Yeah." I said while giggling. "Wait! Did Aidan kiss another girl last night or did I dream that?" I asked getting off the ground and standing up.
"He kissed Chelsea." He said as my heart dropped.
"What a fucking prick." I said while rolling my eyes. Nate laughed and nodded his head. I turned around and walked into the bathroom that was attached to the room. I looked at myself in the mirror and saw my makeup was still perfect. My hair was a little messy but it didn't look horrible. I walked back out of the bathroom and walked over to Nate. His hair was messy but it still looked cute. I sat down next to him and ran my hand through his hair. "You've got some messy hair." I said while giggling.
"Yeah." Nate said as a deep chuckle left his lips.
"Wait are we still at Mike's house?" I asked realizing I didn't know where I was. Nate nodded his head, keeping his gorgeous blue eyes locked on me. I looked down at his lips as I bit down on my own. I meet his eyes again. I moved a little closer to him and placed my hand on his. I let my other hand trace his jawline and then I looked down at his lips again. Nate started to inch his face closer to mine. Our lips were inches apart from one another.

There was a loud bang on the door and we both jumped away from each other. "My parents are gonna be home in an hour so get the fuck out." Mike's voice said through the door.
"Okay." I said back.
Nate and I stood up from the bed and walked over to the door. I unlocked it and pulled the door open. "Holy shit, what happened to your neck?" Nate asked moving my hair to look at something on the back of my neck. "Jesus that's one hell of a hickey."
"Where?" I asked. He placed his thumb on a part of my neck. "Oh my god what if Aidan gave it to me the other night when I was asleep."
"You could look at that picture I sent you, maybe you could see it." Nate said as we walked downstairs. Mike and a couple of his friends were busy cleaning up the house.
"Natalie how could you sleep with our rival school's quarterback?" Mike asked laughing.
"I didn't sleep with him." I said back. "Super fun party, have a nice day." I grabbed Nate's hand and pulled him out the door.
"Do you want to go get breakfast?" Nate asked.
"Sure." I said as we started walking down the steps of the house. Nate handed me his hoodie so I could be more covered. "Thank you." I pulled it over my head and was engulfed in the warmth of it. I pulled my hair into a pony tail as we were walking down the street to the closest diner.

We walked inside the Clove Diner and the hostess took us to a table. She left two menus and walked away, giving Nate a flirtatious wink. I couldn't hold back the eye roll. Nate and I sat down across from each other. The waiter came over and smiled at me. "Hey I'm Ryan, what can I get you two?" The waiter asked, keeping his gaze on me.

"Can I please have silver dollar pancakes and an iced tea." I said while smiling back up at him.
Nate cleared his throat, which made Ryan and I turn to him. "Could I get some waffles with vanilla ice cream on top."
"Sure it all should be out in ten minutes." Ryan said giving me one last smile before walking off. Nate brushed his legs up against mine, which made me turn my head to look at him.
"You are a shameless flirt, aren't you?" Nate said smirking.
"And you aren't?" I said back with a cocky smile. Nate laughed and ran a hand through his hair.
"I'm only flirty with you." Nate said with a smile across his face.
"What a line." I said while giggling. Nate's smile grew wider and he pushed his knee against mine. I puckered my lips a tiny bit with a smirk dancing across my face.
"Damn I wish I had my phone right now." Nate said. "This would be the perfect picture."
"Why?"
"You just look really pretty." Nate said as he ran a hand through his hair.
"Thank you." I said quietly as a small smile on my lips. I reached my hand across the table and placed my hand on top of his. I bit down on my lip as Nate stood up and came onto my side of the booth. He grabbed my hand in his making me smile. Nate leaned down closer to me and was about to kiss me when two loud sounds came to my ears making me jump back.
I looked over at Ryan who had just put the two plates on the table. "Here you two go." He said, sending me a wink.
"Jesus can you not flirt with her." Nate said while glaring at Ryan.
"She's flirting back." Ryan said with a cock smirk. "You better take control of her. Natalie Andrews is one of the biggest hoes at school." My cheeks started to blaze red and I quickly looked down at the table.
"Wanna say that again?" Nate said as his fists clenched.
"Natalie Andrews is a hoe." Ryan said. Nate stood up and punched him in the face. He fell onto the floor with blood gushing from his nose.
"Let's go." I said standing up and grabbing his hand. I pulled him out the door and kept walking down the street. "Guys say that all the time. It really doesn't matter, you didn't have to hit him."
Nate stopped walking and spun me around. "Guys say that to you all the time?" Nate asked.
"Yeah cause a lot of guys said we slept together, even though I'm still a Virgin." I said while laughing. "And even Aidan did it." A tear rolled down my cheek as I looked down at the concrete. Nate pulled me into a hug and wiped away the tear on my cheek. I looked up and stared into his blue eyes. "I loved him..." I said while biting my lip to stop myself from crying.
"He isn't worth it." Nate said, "Natalie, you're gorgeous and he should count himself lucky that you gave him a second of your time." I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled his head down closer to me. Our lips were about to touch when there was a honk coming from a car.

The Many Deaths of Kara Lowe
112 years ago, the Bubble Burst. 103 years ago, the Great War ended. 76 years ago, the War of Two Worlds ended. It is now 2021 and Homo Sapiens, Homo Subcinctus, Homo Variari, and Sapient Beasts have been living together in a hard-won harmony for 75 years. Or so they say. Atypical high-school student Kara Lowe has some serious doubts about that. After she is killed and brought back to life by her accidental murderers, she is forced to abandon everything she thought she knew about the world, and herself. While plagued by a mysterious Order that believes she should not exist, Kara must prove her right to life by destroying an age-old enemy with an unfortunate connection to her. There won't be a ton of gore or traumatising content, that's not the focus, but the tags are there to be safe. The main character uses colourful language when she's angry. The main character might seem to be talking to you at times. She is not. Things will make sense eventually. A quick note about religion: this novel takes place in an Alternate History setting. No existing religion from our world exists in this one. Any similarities are coincidential.

Blood & Noodles
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] As they always have, humanity hunts the gods roaming the world, craving the supernatural power that flows within their veins. Even a drop is zealously guarded, passed from master to student through the ages. It is with this stolen power that the Blooded - those with divine blood coursing through them - grasp beyond mortality and achieve prestige, power, and greatness. Yet, for every fraction of power gained, thousands perish, slain by the gods' supernatural prowess. But everything is beginning to change. Eight years ago, for the first time in human memory, a god was felled. Part-time chef and full-time nuisance Orvi wants nothing to do with gods. Living in a derelict city, his only concerns are ensuring his adopted family's restaurant is prosperous and how to best beat the neighbourhood boys in a fight. If he's lucky, he might even snag a date with the farmer's daughter at the market. But even though he cares nothing for the gods or their blood, the world won't leave him alone forever. Because to reach godhood, one must first leave their humanity behind. *** The first arc of Blood & Noodles follows the adolescent Orvi as he attempts to navigate his rapidly changing home and - by his own definition - protect his family. The story is told almost entirely in the first-person, from the perspective of a teenager who isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. There are tragic elements, especially in the current arc. It's character-focused and driven, though the protagonist's shenanigans are backdropped by a world operating independently from him. Orvi's a generally light-hearted character, and though the story veers into darker territory, I also want it to be able to make readers smile. Action sequences, despite the fantastical elements, are meant to be grounded and clearly-conveyed; Orvi is a brawler, not a warrior. I'm trying to write a story that's enjoyable to read and flows nicely, mainly because it's more fun to write. I'm also trying to improve my writing, so any feedback, whether positive or negative, is welcome!
