《Vanilla Smoke (Blue Exorcist)》Chapter 3

Shuku wandered around campus, looking for his dorm. His was room 616, it was the least crowded building on campus. The sky was dark, which he found much more comfortable that the blinding sun. He stopped for a moment to gaze absently at the moon, then to spot an old looking building, one light was lit in the whole place. There were vines and cracks along with moss covering the front of the building. The plants that had once been neatly trimmed, were overgrown and disorderly. Honestly, it looked like it belonged in a horror movie. He walked casually inside, the main entrance. There was a large open room with some tables and a kitchen. A hallway on each side lead to different dorm rooms. Walking down the hallway that was lit, Shuku spotted two familiar faces.

"Hey teach, Sup Rin." He greeted as he walked by.

The two stared at him as he walked by, confused looks on both their faces. Shuku then continued on his way to find his room. Up one flight of stairs, Shuku found his room, and went inside. The light bulb flickered to life, illuminating the small, yet dusty room. The room was meant for two, but only one of the beds was made, the stuff for another person was moved to the side of the room. The color scheme was a simple light blue with a darker wood. A painful memory flashed through Shuku's mind, and he did his best to push it to the side.

He set his bag on the other desk, and packed the stuff from it onto the other bed. A change of clothes, a small food supply, some cash, and nothing less than a loaded gun. Shuku checked the bullets he kept in a side pocket. All were still there. After unloading the backpack, he took everything out of his hoodie as well. His vapor pen, the key to his room, the key to the cram school. His papers from school, and an extra vile of vanilla extract for the pen.

Putting both hands into his hoodie pocket, his hand rested on two, familiar, and very worn in handles. Letting out a sigh, Shuku took off his hoodie, set his Mp3 and earbuds on his desk to charge, then removed his ear rings. Staring at the eight silver earrings for a moment, he sighed once again before setting them on the desk beside his mp3. Kicking off his shoes and draping his hoodie over the chair to of the desk. He was too tired to eat, or even to bother to change into something more comfortable. Shuku went to sleep still mostly dressed in a purple Tee, a pair of black jeans, and his white cotton socks still on his feet. His hair was messy and covered his eyes from sight, even in sleep.

God, had today been exhausting.

Shuku walked lazily around True Cross Town, looking around for a coffee shop of some sort where he could get some hot tea or something. Shuku didn't drink coffee, he found it tasted like shit to him and much preferred hot tea instead. Spotting a small pastry café, he walked inside the quiet little shop and went to the counter. He got a frosted cheese Danish as well as a large cup of French vanilla Tea. Then sat down at a small table meant for two that sat against the wall and faced the window up front.

After setting his stuff on the ground, he let out a heavy sigh. Reaching into his backpack, he pulled out a sketchbook, a full sized one, along with a set of worn in coloring pencils. Opening to the last page, Shuku stared at the messy but still somehow surprisingly neat handwriting for a moment, and read what he had written.

When the blazing sun sets and the earth decides to make a move.

The maiden of grass shall fall to the earth and a blue sun will rise.

As his flames scorch the earth, the maiden he reclaimed shall awaken,

and tame the sun's flames.

As the sun rises, the moon shall disappear, waning from the light,

showing only darkness left

When the flames can become part of the sun, and the second sun burns just as bright, the moon will return

Only by Showing both darkness and light from both sides of the moon, the flames of hell will dispers" .

Shuku turned the page, his thoughts still trying to decipher the writing he himself had written. The next page was blank, and Shuku blinked before taking out a variety of blues with some other colors close enough to what he wanted. Putting pencil to paper, Shuku sketched his next image.

Ryuji walked along the side with his two friends, glancing through windows, looking for something. He spotted what he was looking for in a coffee shop across the street.

"Hey Bon, you still haven't told us what your... Bon!" Konekomaru started, but was cut off by Ryuji storming across the street. Him and Shima followed in pursuit. Bon barged inside the coffee shop and glared at who he had found, casually sketching while a pastry seemed to hang out of his mouth. Shuku's face seemed somewhat unusually blank though.

"Hey, man, give us a warning before ya do that." Shima commented, then spotted a focused Shuku, who didn't even acknowledge that they were there, much less that Ryuji had just stormed into the shop.

Shuku had his hoodie on, sleeves rolled up to his forearms. His hood was down so someone could see his face. His visible green eye was purely focused on the paper. He had four piercings in each ear, and his hair went from light brown to a royal purple, and it was a mess, but kept out of his left eye. His bangs covered his right eye though, other than the small white scar peeking out from underneath. His black school pants had been replaced by dark jeans but his boots were still on his feet. He was mumbling to himself as he worked on his picture.

"Hey! Asshole!" Ryuji shouted, making the few other people in the coffee shop look up at the sudden noise, except Shuku, he didn't seem to notice at all.

"B-bon! Shuku?" Shima asked confused.

"Bon, why were you looking for Shuku anyways?" Konekomaru asked, just as confused.

"Unfinished business." Was all Ryuji answered.

Ryuji went up and grabbed Shuku by the collar, but the only thing Shuku did was continue to sketch.

"Don't ignore me you ass..." Ryuji began, but trailed off as he caught Shuku turned to him, and almost met his gaze. His eyes weren't focused on him, but something distant, as if he was looking right through him, as if he wasn't even there. Something was wrong with Shuku.

"Hey bon? Man, what's wrong with Shuku?" Shima asked, completely weirded out.

" When the blazing sun sets and the earth decides to make a move.

The maiden of grass shall fall to the earth and a blue sun will rise.

As his flames scorch the earth, the maiden he reclaimed shall awaken, and tame the sun's flames.

As the sun rises, the moon shall disappear, waning form the light,

showing only darkness left

When the flames can become part of the sun, and the second sun burns just as bright, the moon will return

Only by Showing both darkness and light from both sides of the moon, the flames of hell will dispers" Shuku recited, his voice faint, just barely above a whisper.

Ryuji blinked, unsure of what Shuku had just said. Shima didn't get it at all, and Konekomaru closed his eyes in thought, then opened them when he realized something.

"Do you think that's what I think it is? But then why does Shuku of all people know a-" Konekomaru pondered, before getting cut off by Ryuji.

"A prophecy. A crappy one at that, but I don't like the sound of it." He stated, then released Shuku, who went back to drawing, still in some trance. He peaked over Shuku's shoulder, and his eyes widened in surprise to his drawing. Blue flames.

Shuku dropped the pencil mid-stroke, snatched out his vapor pen and took breath in. His eyes refocused, and he quickly put away the sketchbook and pencils inside his bag. Breathing out the vanilla scented smoke, He slung his bag over his shoulder then took a fair sip of his tea, and a bite of his danish. Shuku got up to leave as if nothing had happened.

"Hey!" Ryuji barked.

Shuku stopped and turned around, and Ryuji froze. Shuku gave the Skunk an ice cold death glare. About as warm and fuzzy as a frozen iceland. It sent a chill down the three's spines. If they weren't in public, then Shuku probably would have shut them up right then and there. Permanently.

"If I said anything at all. Forget it, and don't say a thing. Or you might want to kiss any of those ambitions of yours goodbye." Shuku growled, his voice hostile, before whipping around and walking out of the desolate café.
