《Falling for a Star (Complete)》Chapter 14 - Premiere After Party

I was so impressed with the camera work and how great of a job the sound and lighting engineers did on the movie. It was by far the biggest budget film I had ever worked on and you could tell by the end product for sure.

"So what did you think?" I asked Brenley.

She looked down and hesitated for a second before saying, "It was good. I ummmm. I really liked it."

I was surprised by her reaction because I felt like she was lying for some reason. Why wouldn't she like it though? It was great. I felt a pat on my shoulder and I turned around and saw the Executive Producers of the movie, Lou and Roger, standing there and I stood up and they shook my hand and then gave me a hug, congratulating me with huge smiles.

"It was phenomenal Dylan. Your best work yet. You're going to have studios knocking down your door to get to you after that one," Lou said, and he was notoriously a very tough critic so that meant a lot coming from him.

"Thanks Lou," I smiled.

"I wouldn't be surprised if you were nominated for another Oscar and I really mean that. That was a top notch movie and it's only because of you and your incredible acting skills," Roger said.

After them there was a long line of people waiting to congratulate me and they all genuinely seemed to love the movie. Rose walked over and pulled me into a long hug and then whispered in my ear, "I really enjoyed making this movie with you." Then she kissed my neck right under my ear and gave me a smile, lingering her gaze on my eyes for a little longer than appropriate before walking away.

I was surprised by that. She had a fiance that was the head of a major production company, but I could definitely tell she was flirting with me, even if it was subtle. I had been in this business long enough to know that in Hollywood there was no loyalty. I had been hit on by so many married women through the years, very powerful, wealthy, beautiful women but I always turned them down. Cheaters aren't attractive to me at all. Any woman that would cheat for you is a woman that would cheat on you.

I turned around and that's when I realized Brenley wasn't beside me any more. I scanned the theater and didn't see her anywhere. I started walking around to find her but I got stopped by several more people wanting to talk about how incredible the movie was and it ended up being thirty minutes before I could escape the theater room to find her.

The large event room next door to the theater is where the after party was being held and the lights were already dimmed, loud dance music was playing with a heavy bass and there was a long table of food and a separate bar for drinks. There was a large dance floor in the center of the room that was full of dancers and that was surrounded by tables of people sitting down and eating and talking. Around the tables people were standing and talking and it was hard to find anyone anywhere.

I got out my phone and texted Brenley.

I waited and waited and didn't get a text back. I shoved the phone back in my pocket and figured I'd find her later.

"Hey handsome," a sultry voice said and I felt a hand grasp my shoulder and I looked down and saw long bright red fingernails. Then she rubbed down my arm as she walked around to face me and I wasn't surprised to see that it was Rose Davenport. "You want to dance?" she asked, looking me up and down.

"Rose, I'm not sure what's gotten into you today but you have a fiance."

She stuck out her bottom lip and let out a huff, saying, "Don't remind me."

I laughed. "Well apparently someone needs to remind you. What's going on? Trouble in paradise?" I asked as I removed her hand from my arm.

She looked up at me and said, "Just between you and me, he just doesn't do it for me. He's so much older than me Dylan and it feels like we have nothing in common. I'm only 22 and he's 43. He's 21 years older! If I'm not attracted to him now what's it going to be like when I'm 32 and he's 53? Or when I'm 52 and he's 73!" she asked.

"I don't know but that seems like a you problem. Maybe you should have thought of that before you started dating the guy," I told her, taking a glass of wine from the tray of a server walking past and sipping on it.

"C'mon Dylan," she whined. "Seeing you up on the screen reminded me of how perfect your body is and I was wondering what it would feel like on top of me again, but for real this time," she whispered, running a finger down my chest and I stepped back from it.

She looked at me and narrowed her eyes.

"You didn't have any problem with me touching or kissing you on set, but out here it's suddenly a problem?"

"Yes. That was work Rose. It wasn't real. It was just acting."

She shook her head.

"No. I saw the way you looked at me and I know you were feeling what I was feeling. You're not THAT good of an actor."

"Actually, I am. That's all it was, acting. I don't involve myself with women that are taken. I have plenty of single women to choose from and they're a lot less complicated. Plus I've been cheated on and that shit destroys a person and I don't want to be any part of that."

"But Dylan," she whined. "It's not like I can just leave him. He could have me blacklisted in Hollywood so I'll never get another role. He could destroy my entire career with one phone call and he has enough money to bribe anyone to do what he wants."

"Well once again. That sounds like a you problem. I'm not getting dragged into your drama with your fiance. Have a nice night Rose," I said, sidestepping her and walking away.

I pulled out my phone and saw that I still didn't have a text back from Brenley and now I was starting to get worried. I scanned the entire room and still didn't see her so I tried calling her phone but there was no answer.

"Shit," I grumbled, looking around and thinking.

I decided to call my assistant Melissa to see if maybe she had heard from her.

"Hey Dylan, what's up?" Melissa asked.

"Hey. Have you heard from Brenley? I can't find her and I'm starting to get worried."

"Oh yeah. She called me a little bit ago and had me send over a driver to pick her up. She said she wasn't feeling well. She's back home already."

"Oh. Okay. Well I'm relieved that she's okay. I just wonder why she left without saying goodbye."

"She told me you looked busy and she didn't want to bother you."

"Oh, okay," I told her, letting out an exhale and trying to run my hand through my hair like I always do before I remembered it was slicked back with gel.

"Well thanks. I'll talk to you tomorrow then. Good night."

"Night Dylan," she said before hanging up.

I went ahead and said my goodbyes to all the important executives around the room and as soon as I could get away I texted my driver to meet me out front. When I got back home I went up to my room and took off my suit and hopped in the shower. It took forever to scrub all the gel out of my hair and then I dried off and put on some boxer briefs and a pair of pajama pants, hanging the towel over my bare shoulders as I stepped out onto my porch.

I fully expected to see Brenley out there reading but her porch was empty and her room looked dark. She must've decided to go to bed early since she wasn't feeling well. I decided to do the same and tossed and turned for a bit because I couldn't get the nagging thought out of my head that something was wrong. I had already called and texted with no answer so I decided to just go knock on her door and check on her. I couldn't sleep until I knew she was okay.

After knocking three times I heard her walking down the steps and saw the foyer light flip on and she was standing there in a white bathrobe over a sky blue tanktop that showed a sliver of her stomach and a short pair of pajama shorts with little clouds on them and white fluffy slippers.

"Hey," I said softly. "Melissa told me you weren't feeling well and came home. I was worried about you? Are you okay?"

"Yeah," she said, looking down as she tied the bathrobe tight around her. "I'm alright," she said quietly.

There was silence between us for a second as I studied her and I could tell there was something on her mind she wasn't saying.

"Are you sure?" I asked, scrunching my eyebrows.

She lifted her head and looked into my eyes and said, "Yeah I'm fine. Goodnight Dylan."

As she went to close the door I stopped it with my hand and said, "Now how about you tell me the truth?"
