《Taking Tammy.》(24)

Tammy shoved passed Aidan without an ounce of fear.

He coughed as he closed the door, slamming it hard with his hand.

“Excuse me,” he said, gaining on her. “Don’t you have something to say?”

There was no space between the two of them, but Tammy didn’t care.

In fact, the only hope which crossed her mind was the thought of Grace; the little girl who was missing, and her impending freedom.

“You’re in trouble,” Tammy told him, staring Aidan straight in his eye. “That man is going to report you.”

Aidan smiled, her comments running over his head. “Anything else you’d like to tell me before I have to go?”

Tammy squinted, a pathetic attempt to read his mind. “Go where?” she questioned, tilting her head.

The room suddenly got smaller, and although he hadn’t moved, Aidan seemed closer than ever.

His smile disappeared, and he narrowed his eyes. “Go mind my own business.”

They glared at each other, both silent but equally frustrated.

Tammy broke the silence first. “Their little girl is missing,” she stated, ready to gather his reaction. “I don’t suppose you know anything about it?”

She watched his response carefully; any twitch or change in facial expression would signify guilt.

After all, other than Tammy herself, he was the only one on the property with the family, and they all knew he had gained a hatred for the child’s father.

Aidan rolled his eyes. “I should care why?”

Disappointed at the lack of empathy in his voice, Tammy sighed.

If Aidan had anything to do with Grace’s disappearance, she assumed he’d be bragging about it.

“I’m sorry,” he raised his eyebrows. “But, I want a baby. Not a fully grown kid.”

Tammy shook her head, trying her best to hold her amusement in. “You do realize that babies turn into kids?”

He let out a small, sarcastic laugh before jabbing her straight in the chest with his finger. “I don’t think you realize the position you’re in.”

The statement confused her, but she stepped back to avoid any more contact.

“You’re brave for someone in your situation,” he continued, following her movements with a leap forward. “May I remind you of who I am?”

He reached into his trouser pocket and pulled out a very damaged looking piece of paper; the same paper Tammy had found in his drawer, noting her parents’ death.

“I killed your Mom and Dad.”

Tammy wanted nothing more than to smack his smug grin from his stupid face, but she knew she had to remain calm.

In order for her plan to work, however, Tammy had to play nice; put on a brave face and pretend that everything was fine.

She despised Aidan for all that he had done, and there was a little part of her which was still terrified.

But, if Tammy wanted to give herself any chance of a new life, she had to carry on.

For when this was all finished, Aidan would be in jail, and Tammy, back where she belonged.

Aidan sniggered, almost as if he knew what she was thinking.

He bit his bottom lip, sucking it in and making her cringe. “Maybe it’s time I learned you a few things.”
