《Taking Tammy.》(23)

It was chilly outside. The cold air danced around Tammy's skin, reminding her of the first day she and Aidan had met.

Ben barked once then fell silent, almost as if he knew Aidan was hiding behind him.

"Be back in five or I'll come out and get you myself," Aidan had told her, before passing her the dog leash.

Now that she was alone with her thoughts, Tammy couldn't help but wonder what her life would have been like back home.

Probably the same as it was before; boring and lonely.

Still, it was her home, and Tammy didn't want anything else than to be back where she belonged.

She'd make some changes, of course. Enroll in college, make some friends... better her life.

Ben let out a playful cry, almost as if he had read her mind. "And you're coming with me," she patted him on the head, scratching him behind the ears.

The duo were about to turn a corner when a scream echoed from ahead of them.

"I can't come, Dave," the woman from the bungalow shouted as her husband appeared with a large suitcase and other bags, including a small pink rucksack.

His wife whirled around, seemingly searching for something. "Grace is missing," she exclaimed, panic rising in her voice.

Tammy glanced back at the house nervously before running over to the couple, Ben jogging happily beside her.

"What's wrong?" she asked, breathing heavily as she stopped outside the bungalow.

Dave frowned, dumping one of the bags on the ground. "Nothing for you to worry about," he said, shutting her down immediately.

His wife narrowed her eyes, disagreeing with her husband's pettiness. "Grace is missing. I can't find her anywhere."

"She'll turn up Diane," Dave interrupted her, giving Tammy no chance to speak. "Stop fussing."

Dianne shook her head before returning her attention to Tammy. "Please let me know if you see her."

Tammy nodded and Dave scowled, growing more frustrated with each second which passed.

"You can let your boyfriend know we'll be reporting him," he growled, snarling at Ben who hadn't done a thing. "The rental website will have him hung."

Dianne sighed, rolling her eyes. "It was Facebook."

With that, an alarm grew in Tammy's mind.

How long had she been outside for? Aidan had told her five minutes. If she wasn't back in time, how'd she expect him to trust her?

"I have to go," Tammy spoke, her head burning into a migraine.

When she got back to the house, Aidan was waiting for her at the door, his arms folded and eyebrows raised.

"I don't recall giving you permission to go visit our friends."
