《Taking Tammy.》(3)

Her mother had always been against Facebook. If she was alive to see Tammy now, she’d kill her daughter at best.

Growing up, Tammy had dreamed of owning a dog. Every year on both her birthday and Christmas, it was right up there in the number one spot on her list.

The door screeched open without warning, jolting Tammy from a brief, restless sleep.

The man whose name Tammy had never bothered to learn waltzed in, waving his hands and humming a nonsensical tune.

“Lovely day out there,” he chimed, swaying from side to side. “Sun is shining, birds are chirping. I was thinking we'd never see the light of day again.”

Tammy glared at him with fire in her eyes.

Noticing her displeasure, his smile disappeared. "I'm sorry, that was insensitive of me."

“What do you want?” Tammy demanded, raising her voice enough for it to shake.

He had changed since the last time they had met. His hair, though still wild, was less of a mess now, and he had a wicked glow to his eyes.

“Notice anything different?” he asked, skimming his hand over his jawline.

“You don't have a dog,” Tammy replied, suddenly wishing she had spent her early teen years listening to her mother instead of being rebellious.

A confused amusement sparked in his gaze, and he laughed, raising his eyebrows. “The stubble,” he explained, pointing to the small hairs which lined his jaw.

Tammy's eyes darted from him to the ladder behind him. She wondered if she was quick enough, could she run?

The man followed her gaze, a smirk appearing on his lips. “I feel sorry for your parents. Raising such an idiot and all." He paused, reaching out his hand and placing it on her cheek. "That door's been unlocked since you got here.”

Tammy snarled when he pulled his palm back, scowling at him for daring to touch her. “What's stopping me from calling the police?”

He smiled before pulling a mobile out from behind his back; her mobile. “Me.”

Tammy's stomach twisted, not just from fear, but also excitement. A small part of her wanted to run, just to find out what would happen.

Tammy shook her head. She knew nothing about this man, yet she found herself caught in thoughts she knew she shouldn't be thinking.

“You didn't answer me,” the man spoke, jolting Tammy back to reality. “How old are you?”

She lied, hoping that her age would determine how he behaved. "Fourteen."

His hand shot up, the back of it parallel to her face, prompting her to rethink her answer. "Last chance."

Tammy lowered her head, giving into the ultimatum that was a blow to the face. “Nineteen,” she admitted.

“Good girl,” he cooed before standing up. “I have to go. We have a busy day ahead of us.”

Racking her brain to come up with a plan, the words flew out of her mouth before she could stop them. “Wait,” she called after him, seeking his attention. “What's your name?”

He paused just as he was about to leave, turning on a dime with more grace than she would have expected. “Aidan James.”
