Y/n's pov

I woke up in the morning with Rifana sleeping on top of me. I carefully moved her off of me and got up out of the bed. I got my armor on and stretched, deciding to put my mask back into my inventory. I looked at Rifana and smiled, gently shaking her awake. She looked up at me before sitting up and stretching "m-morning master" "get up and get ready for the day Rifana. and I told you before that you don't have to call me that" she nodded and got up "I like calling you master though" I frowned and nodded "okay then..." I stepped out of the room so she could get ready. I walked over to Naofumi's room and knocked on the door gently. He opened the door and I looked at him, seeing a bird on top of his head. "pft" he frowned "don't laugh at me" I covered my mouth and nodded "okay, okay. I see the egg hatched." he sighed "yeah, now I have to find out what it is" I nodded "alright, Rifana should be out of the room soon so we can head out soon" Raphtalia walked out of the room next to Naofumi and looked at me "Oh, you took off your mask!" I nodded "yeah, I figured I wouldn't need it for a little." She nodded "where is Rifana?" Right after she asked, Rifana walked out of the room. She was wearing the cloak but had the hood down so we could see her head. Rifana hugged Raphtalia and smiled "morning!" I watched them and sighed, looking at Naofumi "let's let them catch up with each other while we go find out what type of monster that it" He nodded and we left the 2 girls. 

We got outside and saw that people were already working on rebuilding things. Naofumi had went up to someone and questioned them about the monster. "ah, that's a filolial. they are the birds that you see pulling wagons, in fact they get kind of restless if you don't let them pull a wagon around every once in a while." Naofumi nodded "what do I feed it?" "they will eat just about anything, but I recommend feeding it some soft beans until it grows a bit" Naofumi thanked the guy and asked where to get some of the beans "Ah, here, you can have these beans. consider it a thank you gift for protecting our village." as Naofumi took them I looked at the guy "Shouldn't you use that to feed your own Filolial?" the man shook his head "most of 'em died during the wave, so we wont be needing as much as we have." I nodded and looked at Naofumi "that answers that i guess. Lets go get some breakfast and then see about training that filolial up a bit." Naofumi nodded and we headed back into the Inn. Naofumi fed the filolial a bowl of the beans, while the rest of us ate regular breakfast. After we ate, we all headed out into the field and hunted monsters with the filolial. After leveling it up for a while we headed back to the inn and ate dinner, this time Naofumi had fed the filolial 3 bowls of the beans. The filolial had gotten much bigger from the day, and after a few day the filolial was staying the night in a pin since it had gotten too big for the room. 

It had been a few days since the filolial had hatched. It was currently early in the morning and I had gotten up before Rifana again. I had gotten out of bed carefully and went outside, out to the pin where the Filolial is being kept. I saw Naofumi petting the bird monster I chuckled, walking up next to him. "morning Naofumi, checking on the Filolial?" He nodded "Filo seems to be happy today." "you named the filolial Filo?" he nodded "It's simple and she seems to like it" I sighed, closing my eyes and shaking my head, then I felt something soft rub against my face. I opened my eyes and saw feathers. "Filo seems to like you" I sighed and pet the giant bird "well, I may not agree with the naming choice, but who could hate such an adorable creature." I kept petting Filo as she nuzzled me, her feathers were really soft so it was pleasant. Naofumi laughed at me but I just ignored him. After a while I stopped petting and stepped back "wow, if I had a pillow half as soft as her feathers I wouldn't be able to get up in the morning" Naofumi laughed again "yeah, but I can hardly believe that Filo grew so quickly." I nodded "it's not that surprising when you think of the growth rate of those 2." Naofumi nodded "true..." We let Filo out of the pin and played with her. After a while Raphtalia and Rifana came outside. We all talked for a bit until we noticed a large group gathered at the center of town. We headed over there and saw the princess holding up a paper. "As part of the reward from protecting this country from the previous wave, The Spear Hero, Motoyasu has been given this land to govern. We will be putting a entry and exit fee of 50 silver coins in order to help with the rebuilding fees." the villages were obviously upset, complaining to them and saying that it was the shield hero that saved them not the spear hero. "Are you really going to go against a royal decree? Does anyone have a problem with this?" Suddenly Naofumi spoke up "Obviously they are going to have a problem with it" she looked at him and frowned "what are you doing here, this is Motoyasu-sama's land. so you can leave immediately" Naofumi ignored her and looked at Motoyasu "Hey, Motoyasu, do you know how much it costs to spend a single night at the Inn here?" Motoyasu looks at him and frowns "umm..no I don't" Naofumi flipped a silver coin into the air "It costs a single silver coin a night, meals included. You are basically charging 100 days of staying here just to enter and leave here."

The princess was about to speak again until a group of people appeared, one of them holding a silver piece of paper. "I'm assuming you know who we represent" the princess seemed upset at their appearance "why are you here" They handed the princess the piece of paper and she clenched it tightly in her hands "Shield hero, we challenge you to a dragon race over the right to this village!" Naofumi sighed as the villagers begged him to accept the race "I'm not accepting it, we have nothing to gain from this" The current lord of the area pleaded to Naofumi until Naofumi agreed as long as they gave him something in return. Motoyasu approached with a land dragon while Naofumi was petting Filo "ha! that's not even a dragon, there is no way your stupid bird could beat my dragon in this race!" Suddenly, Filo kicked Motoyasu in the crotch, sending him flying away. Naofumi laughed and praised Filo, but got scolded by Raphtalia for encouraging Filo. After Motoyasu was healed up, they got ready for the race. It was supposed to be a simple 3 lap around the village race. But I could tell that they were going to try cheating. I wanted to stop them but I decided to just trust Filo and Naofumi. The cheating was obvious, but Filo managed to overcome the obstacles easily. On the final lap when they attempted to completely block the path, Naofumi used his airstrike shield to avoid falling and won the race. 

Once Naofumi had gotten off Filo and was being congratulated, Filo transformed into a much larger, fluffier bird. Naofumi didn't realize at first, but I wasn't going to wait for him. "SO FLUFFY!" I charged over and hugged onto Filo, sinking into her feathers slightly. The princess walked over and started complaining about something, but I wasn't paying attention to that. I only focused on petting and hugging the big fluffy bird. Sadly, Rifana pulled me away from the floof and I had to pay attention to Naofumi talking with the lord of the area. Naofumi had turned down taking money as compensation, and instead got a damaged wagon that Filo had been eyeing down the whole time. After Naofumi loaded his stuff into the wagon that the villagers fixed up for us, we started travelling. I wanted to pet Filo more, but Rifana held me to the set. It only took a few hours for Raphtalia to ask Naofumi to stop the wagon. Naofumi agreed and the green looking Raphtalia hurried off the wagon to throw up near a tree. Naofumi decided that we would stop here until tomorrow to allow Raphtalia to rest and he unhooked Filo from the wagon. Rifana was helping Raphtalia so once Filo sat down, I immediately laid next to her and cuddled into her feathers. Naofumi set up camp, and once Raphtalia was done throwing up, her and Rifana came over to the campfire. Rifana was going to pull me away from Filo, but Filo put her wing over me and put her head on top of mine. I was surrounded in the soft feathers, which was super comfortable. Rifana gave up on pulling me away and just sat next to Raphtalia and I slowly fell asleep. 

I was woken up by violent shaking, I opened my eyes and saw Rifana seemingly angry. I rubbed my eyes and sat up, confused "what's going on?" Rifana huffs and slaps me hard. The slap had turned my head to the side, where I saw a small child with blond hair and wings. "...who is this girl?" Rifana got angrier "You tell me! I woke up and saw you laying next to this girl!" I frowned and looked at the girls wings. Rifana started hitting my side, but I didn't react. The girl was woken up by Rifana's yelling, she sat up and stretched and suddenly it clicked in my head. The girl looks at us and smiled "Morning!" Rifana glares at the girl, causing her to flinch. Reached my hand out and poked the girl's wings, which upset Rifana again "What are you doing!" I grabbed Rifana's arm and made her touch the wing as well, causing her to stop "Wait....HUH!?" I took out a cloak and put it over the girl, cutting the back of the cloak so her wings would stick out. Rifana's screaming had woken up Naofumi and Raphtalia, they had gotten up quickly and looked around. then Raphtalia spoke "What's going on?" Naofumi saw the girl "Who's the girl, and where did Filo go?" I sighed and pat the top of the girl's head "this is Filo" "what" Filo smiled at Naofumi "morning master!" 

We were walking into the blacksmith shop that we had gotten our armor upgraded at. Naofumi had told me that the blacksmith's name was Erhard, and he was a trustworthy guy. Erhard was currently standing at his counter, getting ready to eat a sandwich. When we had walked in, he looked over at us "ah, I was just getting ready to close up, but I can make an exception for you guys." Naofumi walked up to the counter with Filo "what, did you come to show off another slave?" "no, she isn't a slave" Filo was staring at Erhard's sandwich, drooling "you can have a bite if you want." Filo looked at him "Really!" he nodded and Naofumi spoke up "I wouldn't recommend that." Erhard waved his hand dismissively "it's fine, besides, how big of a bite could she take" he suddenly watched in horror as Filo transformed into her giant bird form "I'm digging in!" the sandwich was eaten in a single bite. 

After Erhard had gotten over his shock he sat down on a chair "so, that girl is a filolial?" Naofumi nodded "yeah, according to the slaver she is a queen. they are skilled in transforming so they hide among normal filolial." Filo was pecking at a suit of armor "So, I doubt you came here to show her off" Naofumi nodded "yeah, I came to see if you knew of any clothes that wont get destroyed when she transforms" Erhard looked at him "I'm a blacksmith, not a tailor. I don't have any clothes that I could sell to you" Naofumi frowned "Do you expect me to walk around with a naked girl that transforms into a giant bird?" Erhard sighs "alright, I get it. I'll show you to a skilled tailor." Erhard had given Filo a dress to wear when she transformed back and we headed to the tailor that Erhard had told us about. Once we were there, the tailor immediately started fawning over Filo. Complementing her and saying she looked like an angel. Filo looked up at Naofumi "Am I cute?" Naofumi frowned "don't ask me" The tailor put her hands on Filo's shoulder "you shouldn't say things like that. It's the fathers job to complement their daughter so they will grow up better!" Filo walked over to me looking sad "Do you think I'm cute?" I pat the top of her head "yep, absolutely adorable" Filo smiled brightly and hugged onto me. Rifana seemed to get a bit upset when Filo hugged me. 

We explained the situation to the tailor and she told us that we would need to get magic thread in order to make an outfit that wouldn't tear when Filo transformed. We went to the magic shop and asked the wizard lady about it. She did have a loom to make the thread, however her magic stone was broken so we wouldn't be able to use it until she got a replacement, which could take a long time. Naofumi decided that we would travel around and search for a way to get a magic stone, however Filo would have to stay in her bird form until we had found one. It didn't really bother Filo though, since she would get to pull the wagon. We had started traveling on the wagon and Filo was singing a little song about her wind element and how she would kick the mean spear guy when she saw him again. Naofumi was chuckling as he sat out front with Raphtalia, and I was stuck in the back being held down by Rifana. We were a very odd party, but it was pretty fun nonetheless.
