I'm woken up by someone shaking my shoulder.

Ember: "Go away."

Felix: "Ember, Phoebe is here to take us to school. She brought our school uniforms."

Ember: "If it's not black and white I'm not wearing it."

Andy: "Hurry up Ember. We don't want to be late."

Ember: "Fine, someone toss the hideous dress to me."

The dress lands on my head and I disappear with it under the comforter. When I go to take off my shorts, I realize they aren't even on.

Ember: "Not again."

Felix: "What is it?"

Ember: "Nothing. I'm fine."

I take off my shirt, put on my bra and then my dress and shoes.

Ember: "Okay, I'm ready."

I put my bag on my shoulder and we all go to Phoebe's van, but this time, I have to sit on someone's lap. I chose to sit on Felix's lap in the front seat. We pull into the school parking lot.

Jake: "I still don't get why we have to go to school."

Phoebe: "You want the police off your backs, you go to school. Gary was on my case again this morning, so try not to do anything suspicious."

Andy: "A bit late for that."

Felix: "You didn't have to bring us here."

Phoebe: "Well you can't just turn up to school without your Auntie Phoebe."

Sam whispers to Andy.

Sam: "She creeps me out."

Andy: "Yeah."

Sam: "Well at least this place hasn't changed."

Felix: "Famous last words."

Ember: "Only you would be happy to go to school Sam."

Sam: "Now this is where the magic begins."

I get out of the van and Phoebe holds Felix back for a second when the other 3 are out. Once Felix is out, I wave to Phoebe.

Sam and Andy are excited about this.

Ember: "I'm just gonna hide in the back of our little group."

I walk beside Felix as we go in and everyone is looking at Andy rather than Sam. That must suck for him. Sam waves at Mia and it looks as if she is walking toward him, but she passes right by him.

Ember: "I never liked her anyhow."

Felix: "Yeah."

All of a sudden, Sean comes up to us.

Sean: "Hey Ember. Care to join me for lunch?"

Ember: "Sorry, but I don't think I can today. I'll be too busy trying to get up to speed in my classes."

Sean: "It's cool. Do you need help finding your class?"

Ember: "No, I already know where it is. Thanks for the offer."

Sean: "Can I still give you that tour of the school I offered?"

Ember: "Alright, after 1st okay?"

Sean: "Kay, I'll see you later."

He takes my hand and kisses it. I hold back my grossed out face as he walks away.

Andy: "What was that?"

Felix: "How did he know you?"

Jake: "He seemed kinda desperate for you Ember."

Sam: "You totally just blew off that poor guy."

Ember: "That would be my brother."

I wipe my hand on my dress and then walk to class as I hear the 'oh' from them.

Mr Bates: "Hello class, these students are new to the area. This is their first day in Bremin High. I trust you will all make them feel very welcome."

It is silent and I feel self conscious about myself now.

Mr Bates: "Perfect, perhaps you'd like to introduce yourselves to the class."

Felix: "My name is Felix and these are my cousins, Jake, Andy, Sam, and Ember, and we are here foreign exchange while our parents are away for work and we are staying with our Aunt Phoebe."

Trent: "The witch lady? Ooo, they'll turn you into toads."

He laughs and I mumble, "I'll do a lot more than that if you are rude to us again."

Everyone laughs at Trent and I can see my sister is eyeing me as if she is impressed with me.

Mr. Bates: "Alright let's get started, you 5 may take any available seat."

As I walk to the back, Madison ushers me over to her. I take the seat beside her and she says, "Hey, Ember. I'm Madison. Aren't you the one who brought my clothes to my house?"

Ember: "Yeah, that was me. It's nice to meet you Madison."

Madison: "I want you to introduce me to your cousin."

Ember: "Which one? Jake or Sam?"

Madison: "Neither. I want to meet Andy."

Ember: "Oh, okay."

After class, Sean finds me almost instantly.

Sean: "Hey Ember. Hi Madison."

Madison: "What are you doing here, Sean?"

Sean: "I'm giving Ember a tour of the school."

Ember: "Hey, Madison, find me when school ends and I will introduce you to Andy then."

Madison: "Okay."

I go with Sean around the school and when we are done I leave him to go to my alone place.

Ember: "Silence at last."

I pull out my laptop and headphones and start editing my music. I combine my drums, electric guitar, and bass guitar.

Ember: "Now I just need to record the vocals."

I put my laptop and headphones away as I hear a dog barking. I go back into the school and head to the video/media lab. As I am about to reach for the door handle, a dog with red eyes growls at me.

Ember: "Holy- Nice doggy. Please don't follow me."

I start running the other way and I can hear it barking and chasing me.

Ember: "Felix! Where are you?!"

I run into all 4 of the boys plus Oscar.

Ember: "Run, I'm being chased!"

Felix: "So are we, let's go!"

We run to a door, but can't open it. We try to run back, but our path is cut off by the savage dogs. The guys push me to the back of the group. Felix takes the talisman and starts his chant.

Felix: "Divinity of the elements, I summon thee. Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and Aether, Aide at my quest, I'm going forth."

The dogs go back to their happy normal selves and leave. I sigh of relief and then kiss Felix's cheek.

Ember: "Thank you, so much Felix."

Oscar: "Amaze balls. You have to teach me how to do that."

They are all looking at Felix completely stunned.

Sam: "Felix, what just happened?"

Jake: "Yeah man, that was nuts."

Sam: "Hey, what is that?"

Felix: "Uh, Phoebe gave it to me."

Sam: "Phoebe?"

Andy: "How long have you two been going out?"

Ember: "We aren't."

Andy: "Then what was with the kiss?"

Ember: "It was a gratitude kiss. A thank you for saving my life kind of thing. Shit I owe you another one Felix. For getting rid of the crows."

Felix: "It was nothing."

I kiss his other cheek this time.

Jake: "Okay, what is that thing?"

Felix: "It's a talisman, like a good luck charm. I got it from Phoebe when the attacks started."

Sam: "Do you think she has something to do with us being here?"

Andy: "How is she connected to a wormhole?"

Sam: "Well maybe it's your wormhole theory that's the problem."

Felix: "She's up to something. I need to see her book of shadows."

Jake: "Her what?"

We start walking.

Felix: "It's where witches keep their all ancient power. If she's behind the attacks, the spells will be in there somewhere."

Sam: "And if she's the one that brought us here?"

Felix: "That spell will be in the book too."

Sam: "Then we need to get it and make her bring us back."

We walk by Mr Bates, who tries to say something that won't make the school seem so bad to us, and Oscar steps in dog poo. Oscar invites Felix to dinner and Sam, Jake, and Andy are upset.

Ember: "Well I guess I will change my plans."

Then Ellen calls out to Andy. She wants to interview him. Felix tries to get him back by saying, "But we have all of that homework to do. The magic shop, the book."

Andy just looks lost.

Jake: "All of that stuff to do."

Sam: "Yeah that serious important stuff."

Felix: "Kind of urgent Andy."

Ellen tries to get him in an hour and he agrees. I'm getting impatient now.

As we go, Jake puts an arm around Andy and says, "I think she just asked you on a date."

Sam: "Go Andy."

Then Felix mumbles, "Yay Andy."

Ember: "You guys are ridiculous."

Sam: "Oh come on Ember. There were a ton of guys eyeing you. Plus someone did flirt with you."

I put my wall, that had been falling, back up.

Ember: "I don't date. Now if you please, I need to be alone. The 4 of you should be enough for this job."

I speed walk away from them and go to the music store that my family owns. When I get there, I go to the guitar section and pick up a black and red bass guitar. After I tune it, I play a few notes. A voice startles me and I almost drop it.

Sean: "You're really good. I've never heard that song before."

Ember: "Thanks, I wrote that one."

Sean: "So you're a musician?"

Ember: "Yeah, but obviously I'm not famous or anything. I still have to record the vocals to that song."

Sean: "Maybe I can help. You can use the sound booth in the back, as long as I'm in there with you."

Ember: "Thanks. That would be very helpful."

Sean: "Come on."

I follow him to the back of the store. He helps me set up and then I record my vocals straight to my laptop. When I am done doing that, I open my song making app and sync the vocals with my instruments.

Ember: "Thank you. It's finally complete."

Sean: "Can I hear it?"

Ember: "I'm sorry, but I never let anyone hear my songs. You hearing it was an accident."

Sean: "That's okay. Maybe when I earn your trust someday or you make it a big hit."

Ember: "Yeah. I have to go now, but thanks a lot."

Sean: "You're welcome."

He reaches for my hand, but I hold my bag tighter.

Ember: "Could you not do that anymore? I'm still getting over my ex and I don't really like to be touched. But I wouldn't mind being your friend for now."

Sean: "No problem. I would love to be your friend, Ember."

He leads me out and as I am walking along the grassy path, Felix and Sam find me.

Felix: "Hey Ember!"

Sam: "Ember, wait up!"

I turn around and see them.

Ember: "Hey guys. What's up?"

Felix: "We are gonna have dinner with my family, you should join us."

Ember: "Thanks, hey I'm sorry for ditching you guys, earlier."

Felix: "It's fine. We got it taken care of."

Sam: "Yeah, and you don't have to tell us why you acted like that until you're ready."

Ember: "Thanks. You really are my only friends, besides my butler."

We start walking to Felix's house.

Felix: "So where did you go?"

Ember: "My family's music store. I was able to finish making my new song and I took care of my problem with my brother, so he won't be touching or flirting with me anymore."

Felix: "That's good."

Sam: "Now you won't have to worry about him."

Ember: "Yeah."

Once we get to his house, his parents drive us to the Chinese restaurant. Dinner with Felix's family is really great. I wish my family could be like this. I see Andy's grandmother coming with a butcher knife and as I am trying to tell Felix, he finishes the spell and she ends up cutting off the duck's head, instead of Felix's.

On our walk home, the boys are talking about what happened in the restaurant and then Sam pulls out some permission forms.

Sam: "Maybe we don't need Phoebe."

We stop and walk back to Sam.

Andy: "What do you mean?"

Sam: "It's an excursion to the Bremin ranges."

Felix: "Again?"

Jake: "The same excursion?"

Andy: "This one was cancelled and rescheduled for tomorrow."

Jake: "So if we go back and do it all again,"

Sam: "Maybe we can find our own way home."

We all look at each other and all I can think is, now I have to pack for another trip through hell.
