《Little Thief (Black Butler G/T)》Chapter Twenty-three

Sebastian stood in place at first, staring wide-eyed at the Young Earl. Had that really happened? But he was given an order. Bowing his head with a smirk, he led the other Noble out of the room. 'Show them the full Phantomhive hospitality' was always code for 'Ensure they do not do it again'.
Once he was sure he was far enough away from the room to avoid Kadence hearing and to ensure the other servants didn't pop up, he turned to face the man with glaring eyes. "You will tell no one what you have seen here today."
The Nobleman laughed under his breath and dubiously eyed Sebastian. "Please. Think of what something like her would be worth to a circus or even freak show. And why should I listen to a butler anyway? I outrank you."
Inside of him, a pit of pure anger began to bubble over the way this pathetic human spoke to him. The way he spoke about Kadence. The Borrower wormed her way into the lives of the Phantomhive household and everyone seems to enjoy having her around. Even Ciel, and Sebastian himself. Why, Sebastian needed some form of amusement. Kadence is also a woman that has laid her trust in him. Accepted that he's a demon. Has seen him kill yet forgave him because he kept her safe. A person like that would not be so easily replaced.
"She is a member of the staff here," Sebastian spat, taking a step forward. "Outrank me? I would love to see that."
The man seemed to hesitate but scoffed. "You're a butler. You can already see it," he laughed obnoxiously.
Sebastian's brow twitched and he closed his eyes. When he opened them, he could them burning the way they always did when they turned a bright fuchsia. The man's laughing immediately ceased, and instead he almost fell over himself. "You see, I am not just a butler."

"Wh-What are you?" He stuttered out, light colored eyes wide in horror at this seemingly inhuman being in front of him.
Sebastian's lips curled upward, and upon opening his mouth revealed sharp teeth. "I am simply, one hell of a butler," he spoke darkly and leapt forward.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Kadence sat on Ciel's desk, twirling her red hair between her fingers nervously. The Earl was sitting in front of her, practically looming over her. His blue eye(s) were boring into her. Finally, she worked up the nerve to speak. "Wh-Why did you save me?"
Ciel blinked a few times as if coming out of a daze and glanced back toward her. "Save you? I did nothing of the sort. I kept a greedy man from snatching up what could possibly get him several hundred pounds. Why let him when I could get the money when Sebastian's bored of you?" He muttered out, but his cheeks were faintly tainted red as he turned his head away from her.
Kadence wasn't convinced by his words, a small smile creeping onto her face. He did it because he didn't want her to get hurt. He acts as he despises her, but he may actually, deep down care for her wellbeing. "Thank you," she murmured gently, offering up a smile for him.
She swore his face got even redder but he didn't respond, and instead gathered up papers and a pen, filling out what she could only guess were contracts with other companies. Suddenly, he lifted his head and with an all too serious tone asked her a question. "What are your exact feelings for my butler?"
Taken aback, Kadence stuttered over her words while she tried to find the right answers. "He takes care of me. And I'm forever grateful to him. I will never be able to repay him for what he's done. Demon or not, he's protected me too. Even if I don't mean anything to him, I consider him one of my very few friends. I also know he cannot love. So do not worry. I wouldn't fall in love with anyone that wouldn't love me back."

Ciel gave a quiet 'hmm' in response and faintly smirked. "Plenty of women, I'm sure, feel that way. However, those who don't know he is a demon can be desperate to get his attention. Would you be that way if you did not know what he was?"
Kadence hesitated and bit down on her lip. "I...cannot say, Lord Phantomhive. He is undoubtedly attractive, and when he handles me, he's always so gentle and considerate. Perhaps I would be like those other women. But not now." Kadence realized as she spoke, her heart rate gradually increased. She did her best to ignore that though.
"Oh dear. Perhaps I should have to try harder then," a deep voice murmured behind her, and she gave a startled yelp.
Wheeling around, she stared up into the familiar crimson eyes looking down at her. Now she couldn't ignore the racing of her heart and nervously lowered her head. Gloved fingers came around, lifting her from the desk. Would he ask her about it?
"Young Master, did you notice her at all? You would have been the more observant one. How did she do, stealth-wise?" Sebastian spoke calmly, blowing off what he had heard.
Ciel eyed Kadence and gave a small nod. "She did surprisingly well for the thing she is. I suppose with more training she...she could be useful. I did spot her, and it was my gaze that led the cheating bastard to see her."
"But as you said, with more training, she could prove useful," Sebastian gave a slight nod of his head and looked toward Kadence. "What did I say? You had absolutely nothing to worry about."
Kadence smiled warmly up at the butler, her heart still hammering in her chest. Sebastian acted like he hadn't heard anything, but he clearly had. Maybe they'd have to talk about it later. "Um, d-do I have anything to do or clean?" She questioned lightly, hoping to distract herself.
"Ah, yes, I suppose you could help a few different things," the tall butler hummed, turning to exit Ciel's study. "The others knock things behind shelves and counters constantly. I think you should be able to fit behind them and see if it's anything of importance or not."
Listening to her demonic friend, Kadence felt relieved that there were things she was actually able to do. Now she just had to focus and keep herself calm despite the conversation he'd overheard. Surely he wouldn't ask her about it.
Right?

Status: Never to return again in this form (But the characters shall appear in a rewrite) I used to be a fire fighter. The requirements were easy enough with today's technology. Machines did the heavy lifting. Artificial intelligences put together action plans with the greatest resolution possible. Most days were simple jobs, first aid on minor fires, cats stuck in pipes too fine for machines, or when alarms went off that normal security scans couldn't eliminate. Most of the time our only skill was being willing to go into dangerous areas and follow orders, only I died running into the latest in biological terror. A beast that spawned fire. I remember the pain, it overwhelmed everything. Now I've woken in a new sort of existence. One where the only creature to view is a little girl, and she needs my help. Isabella Brand. Izzy, my one light in world of darkness and pain. She has the makings of a mage in her world and I'm going to be her spirit animal.

Left to fend for oneself with only a library of memories passed down as their inheritance, no fate is worse than being a failure before birth. What can a small mutated hatchling do in such snowy outskirts? With few options besides magic, the Nexus provides a quick source of power, but that does not mean his enemies were without strength. Levels and stats are available to all in this dragon eat dragon wor- "So... am I really made of Ice-cream?" * * * This is a Progression fantasy where the main concept is about the growing protagonist actually focusing on their own growth without passing through constant hoops for the sake of it. He stays out of trouble, albeit not always successfully, and only cares about evolving enough that he can hold his own weight in the world. Showing that being made of ice-cream isn't a weakness, but a strength when nurtered properly. Also it doesn't end in a protagonist who becomes/kills god, because that just doesn't fit the theme.
