《Little Thief (Black Butler G/T)》Chapter Eight

Sebastian stood just inside the door of the study, looking at a male who had Ciel by the neck, a pistol pressed into the Young Earl's head. "Oh my. You weren't kidnapped this time? How odd." The butler smirks and glances at the man who is most likely dirtying his food. "And what is it you want sir?"
"The red-haired brat. At first, we were going to catch the Earl for a pretty penny, but a lot of people who pay more for a thing like her." The man sneered, revealing crooked, yellow stained teeth. "So where is the little missy?"
Sebastian stiffened and adjusted his gloves with an exasperated sigh. "Oh, is that all you needed? I'm afraid you can't have her, or my young master. I'll give you one chance to let him go and leave the premises."
"Please. You're one, we're many. What do you think you'd be able to do?" The man's smirk widened but faded as soon as Sebastian's ruby eyes began to glow a hauntingly beautiful fuschia color.
"I don't think I can do anything. However, I do know." Sebastian's own thin lips curled into a smirk and he leaped forward at the man he considers a complete fool.
Kadence stood outside of the study door, listening to the muffled shouts and screams within. Her emerald eyes wide in fear, but she was also curious as to what was going on. Who was getting attacked? Who was making those bloodcurdling screams of agony from within? Surely not the Earl himself, right?
She stepped toward the door just as it swung open, an unfamiliar man standing there with blood on his clothes and one of his arms snapped in half. But that didn't keep him from spotting her in an instant and with his good arm he snatched her off the floor roughly and ran as fast as he could through the halls of the mansion.

Kadence groaned and fought against the iron-like grip, her breath quickening. The world spun and blurred around her to the point she had to clamp her eyes shut so she didn't get motion sickness. She didn't know what to do. So she did the only thing she could think to do. "S-Sebastian?!" The red-head shouted as loud as her little lungs could allow, frightened tears threatening to again spill down her face.
Sebastian had been cleaning blood off of himself when he faintly heard his name called. "She didn't stay hidden." Taking off out of Ciel's study, he sprinted at an inhuman speed until he could see the man with Kadence in his grasp running down the dirt path of the mansion. Anger bubbled in his chest as he slowed his pace enough so his speed looked more human, but by the looks of her, Kadence wasn't able to see anything the way her kidnapper was holding her.
When the butler jumped in front of him, the man skidded to a halt and stared with wide, dark colored eyes. "Stay back! Demon!"
Sebastian rolled his ruby eyes and easily snatched the Borrower from the man's shaky hands, cupping the tiny female close to his chest while holding a single silver knife in his other hand. "I gave you a single chance." The butler murmured with a smirk, and ensuring Kadence couldn't see, he hurled the knife directly into the man's skull with a sickening sounding crack. He crumpled to a heap on the ground, never to touch the redhead again.
He could feel the tiny being shaking through his glove, and made a 'tsk' noise with his tongue as he observed her. "You are not hurt, correct? I do not see any blood." Nor did he smell it. "But did I tell you to hide?"

Kadence didn't respond, her arms wrapped tightly around her body as she leaned into the butler's chest. While he still scared her, she felt safer in the gloved hands rather than in the hands of some man who would sell her off to someone possibly worse.
"I'll take you back inside to calm down," Sebastian said, though he stood in place while the Borrower seemed to be clinging to his clothing and burying herself into him. Curious. She's constantly afraid of him but now she's clinging to him for dear life.
With a shake of his head, Sebastian waltzed back inside of the mansion, doing his best to think of ways to calm a tiny human. But he's never dealt with Borrowers before. So the demon butler simply returned to his own bedroom in the servants quarters, placing Kadence delicately on the surface of the soft pillow. As he turned his back, her soft voice made him freeze in his tracks with wide crimson eyes.
"Th-Thank you, for saving m-me." Her voice had been soft, it would have been inaudible if he were human. But he is no mere mortal after all.
Sebastian took a moment to register her words and a very slight, genuine smile snuck onto his lips. Glancing over his shoulder at the tiny female, he chuckled deeply. "No need to thank me at all. I am simply one hell of a butler."

[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Edit: Fixed some inaccuracies in the synopsis. The void is a vast unexplored ocean filled with various wonders and dangers all waiting to be explored by those brave enough to travel and record. Many souls do find themselves brave enough to face the vast distances, the various risks to personal safety and do the hundreds of task required on a craft. However, at times the void itself can be boring with absolutely nothing to do but as time pass and more and better technology is reached, things got better. The various trips got faster, communications became faster than light and you can be home to see your loved ones after only months now. Through the various planets whether rocky or gaseous, the various stars whether small or giant, the various systems both eerily similar or completely alien. As part of an expeditionary scientific exploratory survey craft, one could see that the void offers no reprieve from all the discoveries and wonders. At times, it can feel empty and silent where no soul can hear you scream and at others it can be overwhelming with sudden phenomenon that can overwhelm the brightest of minds. The void itself is a truly fascinating ocean where one must chart the various islands or drown in its deadly tidal waves. But the question still remained no matter how you try to hide it in of itself… is there truly other intelligent life out there? Are we alone in this ocean? Those very questions still haunt the minds of those on the crafts themselves as they brace for every jump ready for the unknown and the known. Many would try to explain that yes there is other intelligent life out there whilst other still say no after 2 centuries of continuous flight out of the home system. Still, those are questions that bury deep in the minds of the crew and those at home as the voidcraft jumps to a system with a single yellow star orbited by 8 other planets with one crowning blue jewel being the 3rd closest with its 5 oceans and 7 continents, a planet called Dirt which is inhabited by a primitive species called Humanity. Hello, author here and this is my newest dive into writing particularly for the Writathon currently in progress being my first one. I hope you give me story a try but in case you still want more information on what you’re getting into, below are some pointers about the story itself. First Contact: CTVL is a story about a first contact scenario between an advanced alien civilization and a slightly more advanced modern day humanity on their planet called Dirt. Characters: The story will take place mainly on the perspective of the alien visitors themselves though there will be human POV characters who will show how the rest of humanity react through media and forums. Action: It won’t be an actual alien invasion but you have to see for yourself how well first contact went. Sci-Fi: I will be very forward here, I WILL bend the rules of physics in order to add in parts of the plot and there WILL be parts that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Theme: It will be a brooding story talking about the futility of pe… Just kidding, it’s mostly wholesome stuff to be honest here. Alien: The aliens themselves will… actually why should I tell you, you have to go and read it to find out what the aliens are though I will draw a few things here and there to aid in the process. Extra tidbit: If you are a grammar nazi or someone who really wants a realistic scifi story... this story is probably not for you at all. Anyways, that’s pretty much all I can say before I spoil something major of the plot itself, the story is slice of life so make sure that type of story is what you like because I am terrible with anything else as I found out, anyways, have a good time everyone and good luck to the other Writathon participants.
