There are millions of stories on Wattpad with thousands more being uploaded every day. That means you'll never run out of something to read, but it also means finding the exact kind of story you want can be somewhat difficult.
In this chapter we'll give you specific tips and advice that hopefully will help you find your next favorite story!
Where to find stories part one: The Wattpad Home Page
The Home Page (the on the apps or on the web) is full of suggestions compiled by Wattpad just for you.
Some will be based on stories you've read in the past, reading lists of people you're following, stories they're writing, trending story tags, authors who are gaining in popularity, and more. Take the time to look through them as almost all of them will have some connection to your reading habits.
When looking at the stories presented to you, you're given some basic information: the title, genre, cover, a portion or the full synopsis, if they're completed, or if they're not completed, the date they were last updated.
If you touch or click on one of those stories, you'll get to see more information to help you decide if you want to take a closer look.
Part of the information given to you are symbols with numbers next to them:
- The is the total number of 'reads' or times the chapters of that story have been read.
- The icon is the total number of votes the chapters of that story have received.
- The icon is the number of chapters or parts in that story.
- The icon is the total number of comments that have been posted on that story.
When browsing through these stories, you have the option of:
- Reading right away by choosing
- Adding them to your private library or adding them to one of your public reading lists by choosing the icon.

Where to find stories part two: The Tag Category Lists
If you visit the categories in the section on the web, or choose a tag category from the on the app, you'll be presented with different lists of stories to browse through.
Tags are used by Wattpad authors to identify the sub-genres of their stories and different topics contained in their story lines. When you search for stories using tags, you can narrow down the selection of stories quite a bit, which will hopefully help you find the stories you're interested in.
You can search for stories using tags in the search function at the top of the screen on the website, or by touching the icon on the Home page of the app. To start the search, type the symbol and then a key word. Remember that tags have to be one word.
For example, if you're looking for stories similar to The Hunger Games, you could start your search by typing in #dystopian. To narrow the search further, you can add additional tags. Type in #future, #teenfiction, and #action to narrow the list of stories. The more tags you add, the less stories you'll be presented with, which should make it easier to browse through the list.
The are the stories that have the most activity (reads, votes, comments, library and reading list adds) as compiled by a Wattpad computer algorithm. These are the stories large numbers of Wattpad readers are reading. Not all of these stories are completed, but the authors are usually adding new chapters on a regular basis.
You'll also see other suggested lists of stories. One of them is the is where Wattpad spotlights its best and brightest stories. Each one is hand-chosen by Wattpad staff and you'll find a wide variety of stories included on each genre list. You can expect these stories to be completed, or if they aren't, Wattpad has ensured the author will complete them.

Where to find stories part four: In a story you're already reading
If you're enjoying a story, chances are the author will have written other stories you'll also enjoy. Visit their profile to check out their other works. You can find it easily right from the chapter you're reading. On the website, a link to the author's profile will be on the left side of the screen where you see their . On the app, tap the icon to bring up the table of contents, then touch the author's name.
While you're visiting the author's profile, look through their reading lists. Odds are they're reading stories just like the kinds they write too.
Wattpad will also recommend stories to you at the end of the chapters of a story you're reading. Those stories may be written by the author or someone the author follows. They may have been added by the author to one of their reading lists, or they're similar to that story. All of them will have a close connection to the story you're already enjoying, so be sure to check them out.
Another great way to find new stories is to read through the comments at the end of the chapters. If a reader has left a glowing comment, go to their profile and look through their reading lists. Since they they love the kind of stories you love, chances are they've found other ones you may not have discovered yet.
Where to find stories part five: Wattpad Compiled Reading Lists
Wattpad's Content team are constantly searching for good stories and compiling them in themed reading lists. Looking for Valentine's Day romances, international intrigue, stories taking place during spring break, or whodunnit's? Wattpad's got a list for you! To search Wattpad's many reading lists, visit their profile here
Wattpad also has official profiles devoted to popular genres and sub-genres, each with their own reading lists. They include:
There are many more, and more to come so go to the Wattpad profile or and look at who they're following for the latest list of official profiles.
Where to find stories part six: The Share Your Story advertising threads
Most Wattpad authors are active in the Wattpad forums and many of them advertise their stories in the official Share Your Story club. These threads or discussions can be found near the top of each of the genre clubs.
The forums are only accessible on the website, on your mobile web browser, or on the Discourse app in your app store. Simply go , then visit the genre club you're most interested in and then look through the Share Your Story threads. The threads are refreshed once a week so check back often to see the newest postings.
If you have friends with Wattpad accounts, ask them what they're reading. And don't forget to pass on the great stories you've enjoyed with your friends, using the Share buttons to post them on social media, and compiling your own reading lists.
once you have found a great story, be sure to show that author some love by voting for their chapters and letting them know with a comment.
Wattpad authors are regular people like you who write and share their stories for free. For the vast majority of them, votes and comments are the only 'payment' they get for the hard work they've put into them.
The more support you give to a great story, the more likely it is the author will finish it, if they haven't already, and the more likely other Wattpader's who are looking for a good read will find it.
