《Before I Go ✔️》Chapter 15 | Before I Learn His Issues

My fingers curl around the glass that contained my chocolate milkshake inside. I took another sip looking across at Gavin who was waiting for me to finish. "Does your mom know you even left?" I shake my head completely forgetting about her. I should probably be getting home soon or she'll actually kill me this time.

"We should go." I say and before I can get up Gavin grabs onto my wrists so I just pause and stare back at him.

"We don't have to go just yet, you can-" he sighs. "Blame me for dragging you here, take it as an apology for saying you were drunk that one night."

I laugh in remembrance, annoyed that my mother now thinks I'm some crazy party girl but also amused by it. "I'll take the milkshake as the apology." I said. "You don't want to go yet?"

Gavin shakes his head. "I'd rather not have my mother bitch to me about coming home late last night."

"It's kinda their job." I admit. "To tell you what's right or wrong."

Gavin frowns at me. "I know the difference."

"So why do you choose to be this trouble maker? It doesn't make you any cooler." I tell him once more. Could I for once try to fit in, here I am telling Gavin what he should do with his life.

"There she goes again." He rolls his eyes. "Alex thinking she doesn't break any rules, if I don't recall you threw a party without your moms permission-"

"Actually you did."

"You've snuck out of your house, three times now-"

"Because of you."

"Don't blame me for your actions." He shakes his head in response.

"Okay so I'm not perfect either all I was trying to say was that are parents do a lot more for us than we think."

"Maybe your parents." Gavin says under his breath. I never imagined what Gavin's life was like, I thought he had everything and I would think he had a great family too, maybe he didn't.

"I'm sorry I shouldn't have said anything." I said. "My dads in prison actually, practically just a man who contributed to my existence."

Gavin's eyes look up at me once more. "Yeah, I haven't talked to my dad in years you could say he's also just a guy who contributed to my existence too." Gavin laughs lightly but I feel like he's just using humor to cover up his real feelings. "The fucker gave me trust issues."

Gavin didn't seem like a sensitive guy but I had a feeling his father was a sore subject so I didn't hound him with questions about it. Although the mention of trust issues gets my full attention and it explains a lot about Gavin now. The reason why he never told me anything personal or the fact that he never had a single relationship in his life, I was surprised he had friends.

I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket and I know it's my mom wondering where I am right about now. "Can you take me home now?"

Gavin nods his head. We both sit up from the table and wave to the nice lady from earlier goodbye. I sit inside Gavin's car and notice the seat belt is finally fixed, thankfully. His familiar scent is still lurking around the air and I don't mind it.

As Gavin starts up the engine his loud music starts bursting through the speakers exploding my ear drums. I reach down for Gavin to smack my hand away. "Don't touch my radio."

"Geez you don't have to be so rude about it." I groaned turning my head to watch the road.

"Okay then don't touch my radio." He adds turning the music down.

We drive through a few more roads until Gavin pulls into his driveway. I open the door and step out hearing the sound of my mother screaming at me. "Alex where have you been?"

"Gavin-"

"I asked her to grab some food with me." Gavin interrupts. "I just needed someone to talk to."

My mom switches glances between the both of us. "Oh okay then, Alex why don't you head inside."

I nodded. "Thanks." I told Gavin who simply nods his head at me.

"We'll be over later." My mom tells Gavin, did I just hear her right?

"Be over later?" I ask my mom as we head inside.

"Yes." She says. "Sarah invited us over for dinner I think it would be nice for the four of us, it's been a long couple of weeks is everything alright with you and Gavin?"

I shrug my shoulders I knew things were okay because they didn't end with the two of us arguing. "Everything's good."

"Okay, because Sarah's been telling me about all of the parties and the alcohol." My mom adds heading towards the kitchen.

"Gavin doesn't drink mom." I say remembering what he told me the night of the party. She gives me a sympathetic smile like I'm to young to talk about this stuff like I shouldn't believe what Gavin told me.

"Remember that business trip I mentioned a couple of weeks ago?" My mom asks.

"Yes I think I do." I say.

"Well Sarah and I are leaving this weekend and we hope the two of you will be more than capable of staying home for one night, until we get back."

I can't even argue with her about it anymore because I know I'll lose so I just nod my head. I walk to my room and take a nice warm shower and once I'm done I grab a towel and wrap it around my body. I wipe away the condensation from my mirror and see that my eyes look a lot more tired today.

I'm sure it was from the lack of sleep so I try to ignore the fact that I look horrible and get dressed. By six thirty my mother and I make are way over to Gavin's house where we're greeted by Sarah.

"Come in!" She says motioning us into the house. I'd never been in here before, the house was just the same as mine only flipped around. "Gavin could you set up the table?"

I turn to see him wearing a black T-shirt that clings to his body just enough in all the right place he's also wearing some dark jeans and his black converse. I never thought about how good someone could look in a black T-shirt and yet here I am gawking. I know he notices too by the way he's smiling.

"The foods almost done, I hope you guys like spaghetti and meatballs." Sarah says adding a few more touches to her dish. I notice Gavin resembles a lot of his mother, they had the same green eyes and very sharp jawline. The attitude probably came from his father.

"You could join Gavin if you want." Sarah mentions.

I mentally sigh and turn towards the dining table where he's fixing the spoons and forks.

"Long time no see." I smile which causes him to glance up at me and laugh. For once I actually made him laugh? Or was he only being nice because our parents were around?

He stands straighter now and rubs the back of his neck. "Do want water or?"

"I'll just have water." I said. "You aren't gonna trick me and put Mountain Dew in it or something?"

"Don't push it." He winks.

I pull out one of the chairs and sit down, I didn't want to come tonight because well I wasn't feeling too well and I didn't have the appetite for it. Sarah knew I was sick but Gavin didn't and if I didn't eat his moms food he'd hate me again.

"Here's your Mountain Dew." Gavin says putting the cup down. I roll my eyes at him as he takes his seat beside me.

Sarah and my mom finally come to the table with their glasses of wine and a large bowl of spaghetti. I grab just a spoonful and drop it onto my plate. I find myself getting nervous as I stare down at the plate and almost want to puke. So I reach for my water with my hand trembling. I have to tighten my fist to restrain myself.

"Gavin get off of your phone." Sarah scolds him. At least he didn't notice me having a mental breakdown.

"I think I'm gonna use the bathroom." I say. Luckily this house is almost like mine so I know where the bathroom is.

"Are you okay sweetie?" My mom asks her eyes filled with worry.

"I'm fine I just need to wash my hands." I quickly get up and run out of the room closing the door behind me once I enter the bathroom. I lean against the sink holding my head in my hands. I slowly remove my hands and look at them, they seemed to be getting worse each day.

The shaking, the trembling, what was wrong with me? Why me?

I finally get the courage to walk out there and as I do I bump into someone's hard chest.

"You okay?" Gavin says grabbing onto my shoulders to keep me from falling back.

"I'm okay I just wasn't feeling too good." I said.

"I noticed." He adds his hand moves down to my wrist where he brings up my hand. "Don't tell me this is a junkie twitch?"

I pull my hand away. "I told you I had too much caffeine today."

"Bullshit Alex." He says. "What's going on?"

"I-I don't know." I say. "I've been drinking a lot more coffee because I haven't gotten any sleep." Lies.

"Really?" His eyes narrow at me.

"Yes just don't say anything, my mom can't know about it."

"Fine, I won't say anything." He huffs.

Phew. I was worried he'd catch on to things, Gavin wasn't dumb but I couldn't have him knowing, I didn't want him to know. I don't think Gavin would ever forgive me for keeping such a huge secret from him.

Gavin and I load the dish washer once we finished dinner. It was the least we could do for our parents who were currently laughing in the living room. They were on their fourth glass of wine so they were both a little loopy.

"I heard about that football scholarship." I mention, handing Gavin another plate.

"Yeah, your boyfriend will probably get it anyway." He sighs.

"He's not my boyfriend." I tell him, he hasn't even texted me back ever since that night. "I thought you and Zach were friends?"

"We are." Gavin nods closing the door to the dishwasher. "I just like giving him a lot of shit, kinda like what I do with you."

"But we aren't friends?" Damn why do I have to sound like a bitch? "I mean I don't think we are."

"No." Gavin shakes his head. "I wouldn't call this a friendship either."

I lean against the counter which makes Gavin a whole lot taller now. Are eyes both turn to see Sarah entering the room stumbling around, she laughs as she grabs another bottle from the counter top.

"Mom don't you think that's enough for the night?" Gavin asks her.

Sarah just smiles at him. "How sweet Gavin telling me what I can and cannot do yet you bring countless of girls into your bedroom without my consent, Alex is the only decent girl who's ever stepped foot in this house that you know."

"You're one to talk." Gavin snaps back. I stay quiet but I can already feel the heat escaping Gavin's body.

"Gavin." I said grabbing his arm. His eyes snap to look at me and all I see is the darkness of his pupils. "She's drunk."

It was weird, holding onto him like this. I'd never felt Gavin's skin before as crazy as I was sounding it felt soft yet rough at the same time. I'm always cold so it was kinda nice feeling someone so warm.

"I can't pretend like it doesn't bother me." He mutters.

"You don't have to." I said. "Not with me."
