《Set Apart》Chapter 30~

Topanga got up and went over to Derek. I waited for her for about 2 minutes before she came back with a comforting smile on her face. We walked out of Chubbies and after many tears being shed, we eventually got to her house. We walked in and I saw her parents sitting on the couch watching something on tv. They lowered the volume and looked over at us.
"Hey girls." Jedidiah said. Ever since Cory and Topanga started going out, her and I have gotten closer. I come over here quite a bit now so her parents don't see it as anything when I pop in.
"Hey dad."
"Hey Jedidiah." I choked out. My voice was a bit shaky from crying.
They clearly noticed my red puffy eyes because I saw their demeanor change from happy to sympathetic in an instant. "Cristina are you okay?" Chloe asked me.
"I've had a rough night but Topanga wanted to cheer me up with a sleep over. If that's okay with you guys of course, I don't wanna intrude."
Chloe patted a spot next to her on the couch. "Cristina you're welcome here anytime. Now come sit, that movie about you guys like with the boy ditching school is about to start."
Topanga and I looked at each other and smiled. "Ferris Beuller's Day Off?" We said at the same time.
"Yup." Jedidah confirmed. We hurried up and sat next to them on the couch.
"You guys start the movie while I make some of my famous strawberry and banana smoothies."
"Thanks Chloe."
"Anytime sweetie."
She walks out of the room and Jedidiah follows her.
"Your mom is amazing." I put my head down as I turn away from Topanga. "If my mom was half as open minded and supportive as yours maybe we wouldn't fight so much."
"Hey." She put a hand on my shoulder and talked in a very soothing voice. "Come here." She wrapped her arms around me and I once again I started to break down crying. One of the things I appreciate about Topanga is that she didn't try to get me to stop crying, or get me to talk about it, she just let me cry it all out. She knew that's what I needed.
After about 20 minutes of me sobbing my brains out, I didn't feel like crying anymore. Topanga pulled back and rested her hands on my shoulders. "Do you feel any better?"
I nodded. "Yeah, it helped. Thanks for letting me come over and open the floodgates on you, i'm sorry i'm such a mess."
"You aren't a mess. You are actually a very pretty crier." Her comment made us both laugh. "But you look even prettier when you smile."
"Thanks Topanga. And in the future when you feel like you need to have a sob session. Call me up and we'll pull all nighters prank calling restaurant phones, watching cheesy romantic comedies, and stuffing our faces beyond belief."
"Sounds like a plan." She held out her hand and we shook on it.

Just then Chloe came into the room holding a tray with smoothies and a plate of cookies. "Chloe you didn't have to—"
"Oh I know I didn't but we love it when you're over and I figured cookies always help cheer people up."
"This is very true." Topanga said.
She set the tray down on the coffee table and started to walk upstairs.
"You aren't gonna join us Chloe?" I asked.
"I can't, it's really late and I promised Jedidiah that we would go out and have breakfast with some of his old college buddies tomorrow. But you girls go ahead and have fun. And Cristina don't forget to check in with your dad, he probably should know you're spending the night."
"Right, thanks Chloe, I totally forgot." I reached over and grabbed the phone that was on the nightstand beside the couch. I dialed the house number and called. My dad picked up and I told him I was staying the night at Topanga's and not to worry.
"Okay." I put the phone back in his place and smiled. "Now here is where the fun starts."
As I got to Chubbies I saw Dylan, or whatever his name is, in one of the booths. That's weird considering I thought him and Cristina were supposed to be going out tonight. I walked over to talk to him.
"Hey Darren." I pat him on the shoulder and sat across from him.
"It's Derek." He corrected.
"Yeah, that's what I said. So where's Cristina, I thought you two were supposed to be on a date."
"Yeah but she wasn't feeling well."
That's weird, she seemed fine this morning. "What happened?"
"I don't know, she wanted to eat so we came here, then once I finished ordering she kept saying that she wasn't hungry and that we should leave." Okay now i'm concerned. She loves this place and always wants to eat here. "Then her mom showed up—"
"Wait her mom?" Shit. That explains it. "Are you sure?"
"Yup. She introduced us and then she pulled her mom aside to talk. They talked for like 5 minutes and then I saw her mom bolt out the door. Next thing I know Topanga springs out of nowhere and tells me she wasn't feeling well and that she had to go home."
Crap. They probably got into a fight. "Okay, wait, if she left why are you still here?"
"I had already ordered the food and I didn't want it to go to waste. You want some?" He pushed a plate of fries toward my end of the table.
"No thanks, I need to go do something. See you later Dylan."
"It's Derek!" He shouted as I started to run up the stairs and leave chubbies.
"THAT'S WHAT I SAID!" I shouted back.
I ran to Cristina's house to see if she was okay. When I got there and climbed up to her window only too see the lights off and her no where in sight. I climbed down and knocked on the door. Her stepmom answered the door. "Shawn? What are you doing here this late? And in the cold, here come inside." I walked in and turned to her.

"Is Cristina okay?" I asked calmly. I didn't wanna freak her out in case she didn't know about the fight.
"Yeah she's fine she's spending the night at Topanga's why?"
"Oh I just couldn't find her that's all. I needed to talk to her."
"Well if you're gonna go talk to her, she didn't take anything to Topanga's so do you mind going into her room and grabbing some clothes to drop off for her when you go over?"
"Sure Mrs. C." She smiled and handed me a bag to put her clothes in.
I walked to her bedroom and started looking in all her drawers to see what she had.
I found her pajamas and pulled a pair of those out. I Opened the next drawer and found her bras and panties. It made me feel uncomfortable looking in here considering i've known her since she was 5 and she'd kill me if she found out I was doing this.
I pull out a random underwear and bra. Not gonna lie though, I did take a bit of a glance at her bra. May I just say, good for her! I pulled a pair of jeans and I went to her closet and pulled a random flannel and black shirt. I also made sure to go to the bathroom and grab her toothbrush. I put all the clothes in the bag and went towards the door.
"Bye Mrs. C."
"Bye Shawn."
I shut the door and started walking to Topanga's house. It took me about 10 minutes before I was on her porch and knocking on the door. Cristina and Topanga answered the door together smiling.
Cristina looked confused when she saw it was me. "Hey Hunter whatcha doin' here?"
Topanga's eyes widened a bit and she pointed behind her to her kitchen. "I'm gonna go get some more snacks."
Once she left I turned back to Cristina. "I ran into Drake at Chubbies and—"
"You mean Derek?"
"Yeah, I said that. Anyway, I saw him at Chubbies and he told me what happened."
She stiffened up a bit. "What did he see?"
"He didn't put two and two together if that's what you're asking."
She let out a breath and relaxed. "Good." I took a second to notice her features. Her eyes were a little puffy, like she was crying. But they aren't red so i'm assuming she stopped crying a while ago.
"Are you okay?" I talked very sweetly and set the bag down, knowing this is a tough subject for her, especially right now.
"I'm surprisingly okay considering what she said."
"What did she say?"
"Oh the usual. I'm a horrible person and I don't deserve a boyfriend who cares. That he will leave me and when he does to not come crying her her about it." She starts to tear up. She tries to blink away the tears and I go in to give her a hug. She wraps her arms around me and I feel a single tear fall on my shoulder. I rub her back to let her know i'm here for her and she adjusts her head so her cheek is resting against my neck. "I've cried enough to make a river tonight jeez." She giggles and I chuckle a bit.
"You know she's wrong right? You aren't horrible, and if anything, we are the ones that don't deserve you. You're honest, kind, supportive, funny." I pull away so she's looking at me straight in the eyes. "You're the best person I know."
"And you're the best best friend I know." My heart sank a bit when she used the word friend but she hugged me again so I didn't care. "Have I ever told you that you give the best hugs ever."
"No." I smiled.
"Well it's true. I love your hugs." She squeezed a bit more before letting go. Even though I could've held her forever and wasn't ready to let go, I dropped my arms. She looked down and saw the bag I put on the floor. "What's that."
"Oh, I stopped by your house to check on you. You weren't there so your stepmom and I packed you some stuff to stay the night since you didn't have the chance to pack yourself." I handed her the bag and she smiled. She started looking through it and I got nervous. "I don't really know what you pack when you come over here, but I tried my best to pick out clothes I thought you would wear and—"
She cuts me off giggling. "You're such a dork." I can't help but smile back. "Thanks for this. This night has been shit, but you and Topanga have really turned things around."
"Anytime."
"I do have one question though."
"Shoot."
"Were you the one rummaging through my underwear drawer or was it my stepmom?" She asked me with a smile that made it look like she was gonna kick my ass.
"Ummm..." I instantly started sweating and stumbling on my words. "You know...I didn't really know w-which drawer was which and y-your stepmom asked me to grab the st-stuff from your room b-but when I saw it I just kinda grabbed a random pair because I had a feeling this would h-happen—"
"Relax Hunter, i'm messing with you." She started laughing and I let out a sigh of relief. "If anything i'll kick your ass at school tomorrow when i'm less of a train wreck."
"Oh God." I put a hand to my forehead out of concern for my wellbeing when she began to shut the door.
"See you soon Hunter." She said ominously.
I am feeling very worried right about now.
