"Holly." I heard someone say my name.

I squeeze my eyes closed and ignore it.

"Holly, you better wake up!" This time the person was louder. Could people not sleep in peace in the morning?

"Holly don't make me do what I did last time!" This person happens to warn me.

Try all that you want, I am not getting out of this bed.

I snuggled more under my warm soft blanket and continued to sleep until my face came in contact with something very cold.

That forced my eyes to open and I scream and all I could hear was my roommate's annoying laugh.

"Emma, how many times do I have to tell you not to wake me up with ice!" I yell as I got off the bed and ran to the bathroom for some warm water. I close the door behind me and ran the tap for some warm water. Now that I was forced to get up, I might as well get ready for the day.

Holly Anne Winters is what my family named me and it could not have been any more girly. I am a university student who can illegally drink in America, but I never went out to get drunk. Maybe occasionally.

Waking up with ice on a cold November morning is not something anybody would want. For some odd reason, that seems to be the only thing that wakes me up.

Standing clueless in front of my small University wardrobe in nothing but my bathrobe was another scene you will see if you are my roommate.

"Is it that hard to choose a t-shirt to go with your black jeans?" I heard Emma ask.

I took one of my blue t-shirts and turned to her.

"I'll be waiting for you. Go get dressed." She showed me two coffee mugs in her hands.

I went back to the bathroom to get dressed. I pulled up my brunette hair into a high ponytail, I made a little messy by leaving some loose strands of my bangs and simply tucked it behind my ears. I wasn't much into makeup although with the weather being cold, I moisturize it. I applied a thin line of eyeliner and mascara for my eyes and light glossy lipgloss to my lips.

I got my bag, hoodie and Emma handed me my mug and we walked out our room and headed for the stairs.

We could have our own cars here but we preferred walking to class. A fifteen-minute walk wouldn't hurt much.

While we walked down the pavements, Emma started talking about her plans for the winter break and winter break was a month away.

Emma Bakers is my amazing roommate for the almost two years now. Many of the students often change their rooms giving their evidence just so that they get their friends as their roommate. I could have done that to get away from the morning ice and endless talks on fashion and shopping.

Emma is like the typical girly girls who couldn't think of beyond Fashion, make-ups and boys while I was a total opposite of it. You could even say I changed to be this way.

People do change under circumstances.

Before we could freeze by the early winter breeze, we reached our block and walked into a more comfortable area where we could be warmed up.

We climbed the stairs to the level that we were to have our lectures in this morning.

Everybody was standing in their groups in different parts of the hallway discussing work or gossiping about something that I am never a part of.

Emma spotted her friends and like any other day, she tells me to have a great day and that she will see me later on in the day.

This is what happens when you have only this one so-called only friend in the entire two and a half years of university life that you have been a part of.

I was not a bookworm of any kind. I was brought up with values to greet and interact with everybody so that way, I had plenty of acquaintances to say good morning to. So, I began greeting the acquaintances that turned to greet me.

It could get awkward when you're talking to your acquaintance and it goes into a conversation including their friends and you have no idea of what they were on about. That was my cue to turn the other way after informing them that we'd talk later on.

After greeting the people who I knew, I turned to the lecture room I was to have my lecture in when I was stopped by someone's arm. I recognized the arm, I turned to look at the person's face. The face that made me change to who I am now.

"It's very polite of you to not greet me in the morning with your lovely voice." he told me.

"I'm sorry to not have seen you in the hallway. Good Morning Daniel." I greet him with a fake smile. He let out a chuckle as I moved his arm and walked into the room and took a seat.

Daniel Justin was a boy who I despise and the very reason why I changed myself into kind I am. We met in sophomore year of high school back in California.

He was a football player and I would be cheering in the bleachers. On one such day, when they won a game, my eyes met his.

He and I had some similarities. We both loved sports, food and sunsets.

We started dating at the beginning of Junior Year. I was young and very naive but it was good to be with the most popular boy in my grade. Daniel was simply the best, he was my first love, my first kiss and my first date.

My friends back then told me not to stay with him for long but I found no reasons to stay away from him. Our relationship was strong and it went on for over two years until I found his real self here in New York, his hometown.

He had bad company and plenty of girls he would have one night stands with. I wasn't happy with it at all. At first, I thought it was him going crazy because he was back home but I was wrong.

Dating him was the worst decision I had taken. He was looking at me like how he saw the other girls. I was wild and crazy in one part of my personality but the other part knew the limits of it.

We broke up after the first semester and I cried for a week or two just like any teenager, but with Emma's help, I got better. I changed myself. I would still go and cheer for my favourite team at any game but I became more serious and less social.

Emma told me to ignore him but that was not very practical.

We had similarities and two from that was studying in NYU and studying for the same course, which means, he would be in the same lectures as I was.

The room was now filled and our professor walked in and began the lecture which is for two hours.

-----

"The good thing is that you are mentally ignoring him," Emma tells me as we walked back to the university after having a quick lunch at Starbucks.

"He still needs to pick on me even after we have nothing to do with each other." I sigh and took a sip of my coffee.

"Relax, he just wants to see you mad so that he can be happy and by getting mad he's getting entertained." Emma looks at me and says, I nod my head slightly and we got into the building.

"Oh my! I forgot to tell you this!" she became all excited.

"There's a sale at Forever 21 and Topshop?" I guess, she shook her head. "Nope, although there is a sale at Forever 21." I give her blank face.

"Okay, I'll get to the point." she calmed herself and stopped me from walking further.

"Ryan asked me out today after my first lecture." And we're back to the topic of boys. I rolled my eyes and started to walk.

"Oh come on! Be a little happy for me!" she caught up with me and stopped me again.

Ryan Davis was her crush and she goes stalking him like how fans go stalking their celebrity crushes. She would be over the moon if Ryan waves at her or even say good morning to her.

As she would say, 'Ryan knows that I exist!'.

"If I clearly remember you called him an idiot and gross." I remind her.

"I called him an idiot because he is simply adorable and gross because he got clumsy with his sandwich," she explains herself like a sweet teacher.

"And you hate people who are clumsy." I point out to her.

"Exceptions can be made. Now after class today I want you to come with me to Forever 21 so that I can find something good for my date this weekend." she told me. I nod because I had no other choice because she would change my mind by she cooking dinner. I'm clearly not a big fan of that.

Before I dropped Emma off to her lecture, I got a notification on my phone. I received a new email from the writers club.

Dear Wordsmiths,

This is to inform you that we have meeting this Thursday at the Wordsmiths club at 5 in the evening. Do not miss this meetup.

Regards,

Elizabeth Robins

"Great, now I have to go for this tomorrow." I groan.

"Cheer up a little, Holly. It's not so bad you know." I heard Emma say. "Then why aren't you a part of it?" I ask her.

"I was never a writer."

"So when I did I become the next Cecilia Ahern or Nicholas Sparks?" she shrugged.

"I'll meet you at five at the entrance." Emma smiles and walks into her room. I let out a sigh and walked to the other side of the hallway and waited until the room got free for my next lecture.

I joined the writers club because I was blindly tricked by Daniel back at the beginning of the first semester. He said he was also going to be in it. I submitted the requirements and got in only later I got to know that he never gave the application and nor was he planning to be in it.

The club had one rule and that was that once you're in, you're in till you've graduated.

So, I was trapped in it and not attending a meeting could affect results due to my lack of involvement in clubs and more.

The things you got to do to get a degree.
