《Burn Archer》Eighteen- The Werewolf

He got frightened. "No please don't leave, help me."
His voice was deep and soothed me a bit so I sat down, a safe distance away from him.
"Why do you need me to help you," I asked quietly. "What's your name?"
"I'm Tyson," he paused. "What's yours?"
I felt a tingling burn inside me asking whether I should rush out of the room that instant or stay.
"I'm Burn." I realised that I've had to introduce myself to a lot of people during the past few weeks.
"Are you a Maya?" he asked studying my face.
I smiled to myself. He thought I was a Maya. It felt like he'd just splat a compliment at me.
"Hopefully never even in my nightmares, I'm a human girl," I snorted. "I'm here with my friends to talk to Brian about something."
His eyes widened when he heard that I was human but it seemed as if he was forced to push the thought aside. "No! You need to stay away from that man."
I realised that he had dust all over his body and his hands were tied up. He had dark blonde hair, an olive skin colour and he had eyes as blue as the perfect ocean on a summer day. He had cuts on his t-shirt as if someone had ripped through them intensely.
I creased my eyebrows. "And why would I believe a word you say?"
"My mother was a wolf and my dad's a human. My father is the man sitting downstairs," he said narrowing his eyes.
"There's another human on this planet? Brian Wilder?" I paused for a few moments then I realised. "Wait a sec, oh my god. You must be a-"
He stared at me with his deep blue eyes.

"A werewolf," He whispered.
I covered my mouth in shock as I realised that I was in the presence of an actual werewolf. Then I smiled and settled down. "Proceed with your story."
"You aren't afraid of me?"
"Of course not, I was just bit overwhelmed and I just needed to process it just like everything else that has happened to me"
He laughed, "Well miss-afraid-of-nothing, my dad is actually a psycho and your friends downstairs, are possibly in a lot of danger."
I swallowed the sickening feeling rising in my throat. "And how might that be?"
"He murdered my mum and he's killed anyone that's ever stepped into this house," Tyson said darkly. "He locked me up here for a couple of months-"
He stopped and looked up at the watch above the bed.
"You've been talking to me for a whole minute, Brian's gonna get suspicious. I'll explain later but first get me out of here! Quick," he said grinding his teeth.
Suddenly Brian's voice boomed into the room, making us jump. "Everything okay up there? You're taking a very long time in the toilet!"
I peeked out of the door and shouted back at him. "Yeah! I just have a bad stomach so I'm taking everythin' out!"
I turned around and shrugged at Tyson's smile.
"Sure! Take your pleasant time!" I realised that he sounded cautious with every word.
I hurried back to Tyson and cut off his rope.
"Thanks," he commented as he stood up. He had a muscular built, just like Ash, except he was a lot taller. His blue eyes stood out across his pale face which was covered by several layers of dirt.
"How old are you?" I asked raising an eyebrow.

"I think I'm fifteen, I don't remember"
"Oh what a coincidence, me too."
We raced out the door but I stopped him. "He's gonna freak out when he sees you. We have to take it slow. You go hide in the living room somewhere as I distract him and then tell my friends about it."
"What do we after that?"
I smiled. "We run, because we don't want anyone, not even your dad, to get hurt".
He focused on me carefully. "Don't call him my dad, that man doesn't deserve to live another second."
I skipped down the stairs and walked over to the lounges.
"Well you took your time," Ash mocked.
I rolled my eyes and turned to face Brian.
I looked him dead in the eye. "Why don't we have a staring contest Mr Wilder?"
He seemed fond of the idea and we began it. From the corner of my eye, I could see Tyson running to hide somewhere. My eyes started watering after a couple of seconds, so I blinked and pretended to have lost.
"Why are you trying to cause a distraction?" Ash whispered into my ear.
I smiled nervously. "Mr Wilder, can we please be alone for a few moments please?"
"Oh, of course! I'll go bring you kids a nice cup of coffee," he cheerfully said as he jumped up and walked off.
"What's all this about Burn?" Ivory asked worriedly.
"You guys need to just trust me on this. We need to get out of here this second. Brian is a crazy murderer and he has a kid who's a werewolf who he held captive for a couple of months."
Eleanor crossed her arms. "You sound like a mental woman."
I looked her dead in the eye. "Do you trust me?" I asked.
"I trust you, I guess," Ash said quietly without making eye contact with Eleanor.
Ivory got closer. "Me too."
She groaned.
"We have to escape"
We all reached the door at the same time.
"So this is the werewolf?" Ash asked holding the door open and inspecting Tyson.
"My name's Tyson-"
"Where are you kids going-" Brian's mouth fell open when he saw Tyson in the doorway.
"Don't you dare move a muscle!" he snarled viciously pointing at his werewolf son.

Delicate as Glass
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Nuri, an [Assistant Glassworker], only has a single Skill. It’s really not fair. He’s worked in the hot shop his entire life, following in his father’s footsteps after his parents passed away, but he’s stuck. Despite possessing above-average talent as an artisan, he still hasn’t shed his [Assistant] status, gained a second Skill, or even leveled enough to reach the first Threshold. Besides, he’s bored; most days he daydreams of adventure and becoming a hero, or pines for the renown that’s sure to be his if he evolves his Class into a [Master Glass Smith], but nothing ever changes—until suddenly, fate strikes, and nothing is ever the same again. These days, Nuri sees more magic, prestige, and adventure than he can handle as he gets swept up in realm-shaking conspiracies and desperate fights for his life. Maybe a boring life wasn’t so bad after all. Disclaimers: 1) Names were mostly chosen through random generators and aren’t necessarily final. If they seem derivative or boring, blame RNG. 2) Skills, Classes, levels, and the entire system is currently a work in progress; please be kind if it’s not very well fleshed out yet. 3) This is the first full-length novel I've set out to write without a single plot point ready. I had nothing in mind other than a recent visit to a hot shop. Molten glass is pretty awesome. 4) Related, I know much less about glass than I’d like. I did some research, but mistakes are bound to happen. If you have a correction, thanks! Please be polite about it. 5) The prose is my experimental attempt at first-person, present tense. I realize it may not be everyone’s preference, but I hope you’ll give it a try anyway!
